Abstract

Tamarind seeds can be used as coagulant because they contain protein that have role as polyelectrolytes. Optimum dose of tamarind seeds as coagulant material to reduce turbidity and TSS level in raw water (river water) had been researched previously, which was 1000 mg / L without noticing more on pH of river water that was used during the coagulation process. Furthermore, the purpose of this study was in order to investigate differences in the efficiency of biocoagulant of tamarind seeds in dose of 1000 mg / l for reducing turbidity and TSS level in raw water based on pH treatment. This research was a pre-experimental research with one group pre-posttest design. Subjects in this research were tamarind seeds as coagulant, meanwhile, the object in this research was raw water of Jagir River. This research used three variations of treatment for pH conditions, which were: acidic (pH 4), neutral (pH 7), and alkaline (pH 10) with coagulant doses of tamarind seeds each treatment in 1000 mg / L. Each treatment was replicated 9 times. The data that was obtained in this research was examined by calculating the efficiency in reducing turbidity and TSS levels, paired t-test statistical test, one-way anava test, and probit test. Moreover, result of this research showed that the best efficiency in reducing turbidity and TSS level by using coagulant of tamarind seeds in dose of 1000 mg / l was by treating acidic conditions (pH = 4), thus, it resulted efficiency value in reducing turbidity and TSS level for 94.56% and 83.78%. Result of paired t-test showed that there was a significant difference in the average of turbidity and TSS level before and after treatment. Result of one-way anava test showed that there was a significant difference in the average of efficiency in reducing turbidity and TSS level between treatment of acidic condition (pH = 4) and neutral conditions (pH = 7) and alkaline conditions (pH = 10). Result of probit test showed expectation of efficiency in reducing turbidity and TSS level in 85% and it required optimum pH values in 4.268 (acid) and 3.417 (acid). All in all, old tamarind seeds could be used as tamarind seed powder. Thus, it could be used as a coagulant material in order to purify water that was more efficient relatively and eco friendly. Abstract

Mechanical trauma causes pulp exposure and make the invasion of pathogenic microorganisms into the dental tissue. This condition causes pulp inflammation characterized by the release of pro-inflammatory cytokine tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) and anti-inflammatory cytokine interleukin-10 (IL-10). Gouramy bone paste (Osphronemus gouramy) contains amino acids, omega-3, omega-6, and flavonoids which is thought to accelerate healing of inflamed pulp tissue that triggers decreased TNF-α expression and increased IL-10 expression. This study aims to analyze the expression of TNF-α and IL-10 in dental pulp after administration of Gouramy bone paste (Osphronemus gouramy) and calcium hydroxide. The sample size consisted of 24 Rattus novergicus which were divided into 3 groups i.e (K1) without the application of direct pulp capping material, (K2) with the application of calcium hydroxide, and (K3) with the application of gouramy bone paste. Data measured are the number of inflammatory cells (neutrophils, macrophages, and lymphocytes) that express TNF-α and IL-10 on the 4th and 7th days histologically by immunohistochemical methods. Statistical test results showed that administration of gouramy bone paste in dental pulp decreased TNF-α expression and increased IL-10 expression more than those without gouramy bone paste with a significant difference (p

Abstract

Until now, most authors in the field of health still publish research articles, even though there are still many types of non-research articles that can be published in scientific journals. In this case it is necessary to understand that in addition to the results of research, the results of critical and innovative thinking are very important to be known by the scientific community. Thus, the authors are expected to learn more about the procedures for writing non-research articles, including examining the specific writing methods that have been determined by each journal. Abstract

This study explored the lived experience of pregnant mothers behind bars. Affixed by the philosophy of Hans-Georg on hermeneutic phenomenology, individual semi-structured interviews were done with nine (9) informants. After transcribed interviews, reflection and interpretation were done with Max Van Manen’s four lifeworlds. Six major themes emerged namely: (1) “Yearning Inmate” with subthemes: (a) “Corporeal Desire”, and (b) “Familial Longingness”; (2) “The Long Journey Ahead” with subthemes: (a) “Mother’s Preparation”, and (b) “Prisoner’s Delivery Experience”; (3) “The Value of Time”; (4) “The Separation” with subthemes: (a) “Sadness vs. Security”, and (b) “Estranged”; (5) “To Light A Fire”; (6) “Somehow, Sometime, Someday” with subthemes: (a) “Hope: For Myself”, and (b) “Hope: For my baby”. Findings revealed how being a mother behind bars is no easy situation. They have several preparations to make before giving birth and just a few days after delivery, the baby is taken away. Over time, the child will no longer recognize them and so they try to mend the broken relationship they have. Keywords: Motherhood, Imprisoned, Incarcerated, Interpretive phenomenology, Hermeneutics
