Abstract

Purpose – This study was conducted to address the issue of low mathematical critical thinking skills among students, a subject often perceived as challenging, as evidenced by the decline in national examination scores. The primary objective is to analyze the influence of internal factors, specifically adversity quotient and self-confidence on the mathematical critical thinking skills of students at State Madrasah Tsanawiyah (MTsN) in South Jakarta. Methods – This research employed a survey method utilizing path analysis. The population consisted of 614 students, with a sample of 86 respondents selected through simple random sampling using the Slovin formula. Data was collected via Likert-scale questionnaires for the adversity quotient and self-confidence variables, while mathematical critical thinking skills were measured using a test instrument. Data analysis was performed using SPSS version 22. Findings – The results demonstrate a positive and significant influence among the tested variables. Quantitative findings reveal that self-confidence has a larger direct effect (0.444) on critical thinking skills compared to the direct effect of adversity quotient (0.323). However, adversity quotient plays a crucial role in shaping student self-confidence, with a strong path coefficient of 0.688. Additionally, a significant indirect effect was found between adversity quotient and mathematical critical thinking skills mediated by self-confidence.Research Implications – Practically, these findings suggest that schools should integrate the development of a resilient mindset (AQ) as a foundation to bolster self-confidence, thereby accelerating students' critical analytical abilities in mathematics.

Abstract

Purpose – This study was prompted by the declining mathematics achievement of Indonesian students in international assessments (PISA/TIMSS), which stems from both cognitive and psychological barriers. The research aims to analyze the contribution of students' perceptions of teaching approaches and self-efficacy as an integrative solution to improve academic outcomes. Methods – This quantitative study employed a correlational survey method involving 86 eighth-grade students from three State Madrasah Tsanawiyah (MTs) in South Jakarta, selected via simple random sampling. Data was collected using Likert-scale questionnaires for perception and self-efficacy variables, while mathematics achievement was measured through students' learning outcomes. Data analysis was performed using multiple linear regression via SPSS 22.0. Findings – The findings confirm that perceptions of teaching approaches and self-efficacy simultaneously contribute significantly (77.2%) to mathematics learning achievement Fobs = 140.699 Sig. = 0.000. Partially, the perception of teaching approaches serves as a more dominant predictor tobs = 6.368 compared to self-efficacy tobs = 4.416. This proves that students' positive interpretation of teaching strategies and their belief in their own capacity are robust predictors of academic success.Research Implications – These findings imply that educators must adopt adaptive teaching strategies that foster a growth mindset and mental resilience.

Abstract

Purpose – This study aims to analyze the transformation of knowledge management at Pondok Pesantren Darul Ulum (PPDU) Jombang. The primary focus of this study is to address how pesantren institutions maintain salaf (traditional) values while adopting national educational professionalism systems. Methods – This research employs a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through participatory observation in dormitory and school environments, institutional archival documentation, and in-depth interviews with the Board of Pesantren Leadership (Majelis Pimpinan Pondok Pesantren), heads of educational units, administrative staff, and students. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing to validate the knowledge management cycle. Findings – The results indicate that PPDU's institutional transformation is divided into three phases: traditional, transitional, and modern. Key findings reveal that knowledge management is implemented through the integration of the Kitab Kuning (classical Islamic texts) curriculum with the national curriculum. Technically, the institution has codified tacit knowledge into explicit knowledge through the digitalization of student databases and the formulation of formal SOPs. The acceleration of transformation is driven by the collective leadership of the MPPK, which effectively mitigates human resource competency gaps and technological infrastructure constraints. Research Implications – The implications of this research emphasize the importance of an adaptive knowledge management model for the sustainability of pesantren in the disruption era. The limitation of this study lies in its focus on a single site (single case study), so the generalizability of the findings may be limited to pesantren with similar organizational characteristics.

Abstract

Purpose – This study aims to develop interactive video learning media using Sparkol Videoscribe on plane geometry material for grade III elementary school students. This research is motivated by the need for learning media that can support the visualization of abstract mathematical concepts at the elementary school level. Methods – This research uses a research and development (R&D) design with the ADDIE model, which includes the stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The research subjects involved grade III students as well as expert validators consisting of material experts, media experts, and linguists. Data collection techniques use observation, interviews, questionnaires, and tests. The data was analyzed descriptively, quantitatively, and qualitatively to determine the level of validity and practicality of the developed media. Findings – The results of the study showed that the media developed had a high level of validity, with a percentage of 96% of material experts, 93.85% of media experts, and 90% of linguists, with an average of 93.23% being in the very valid category. From the practical aspect, the teacher's response reached 96%, the small group test was 91.67%, and the limited group test was 93.33%, with an average of 93.67%, which was in the very practical category. These results show that the developed media are suitable for use in mathematics learning on plane geometry materials on a limited scale.Research Implications – This study shows that interactive video learning media using Sparkol Videoscribe have the potential as a learning innovation that can support concept visualization, support student involvement, and can be used to assist teachers in delivering material.
