Abstract

This community service activity aimed to empower the Sehati Women Farmers Group in Magepanda Village through training on the production of Liquid Organic Fertilizer (LOF) derived from Kirinyuh leaves (Chromolaena odorata). The activity was motivated by farmers' high dependence on chemical fertilizers, which are relatively expensive and can degrade soil fertility over the long term. Meanwhile, Kirinyuh weeds, which are abundantly available in the surrounding environment, have not been optimally utilized. The implementation method consisted of preparation, material dissemination, practical demonstrations of LOF production, and evaluation. The LOF production process involved fermenting Kirinyuh leaves with the bioactivator EM4 and molasses. The results indicated an 80% increase in the partners’ knowledge and skills in processing weeds into value-added fertilizer. The participants were able to carry out all stages of liquid organic fertilizer production, from material chopping to fermentation, in accordance with established procedures. The training on producing Kirinyuh leaf-based LOF proved effective as an alternative for providing an economical and environmentally friendly fertilizer, while also supporting the implementation of sustainable agricultural systems in Magepanda Village.

Abstract

Reference management is an important aspect of scientific writing, especially for postgraduate students who are required to produce academic work that meets scholarly standards. In practice, many students still struggle to create citations and bibliographies systematically because they have not used reference management software effectively. One application that can assist with reference management is Mendeley. This Community Service Program aims to improve postgraduate students' knowledge and skills in using the Mendeley application for scientific writing and to support the improvement of the quality of academic publications in higher education. The activity was conducted as training, consisting of lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on practice, including program installation, feature introductions, reference management, the use of plugins in Microsoft Word, and the automatic creation of citations and bibliographies in various citation styles. The participants were postgraduate students who were preparing research proposals, theses, or scientific articles. Evaluation was conducted through observation, discussion sessions, and questionnaires to determine participants’ level of understanding and satisfaction. The results showed that the training improved participants’ ability to manage references more effectively, quickly, and systematically. Participants found it easier to create citations, organize references, and compile bibliographies in accordance with required styles, while also reducing writing errors and saving time. Follow-up activities include online mentoring, training modules, and periodic workshops to ensure sustainable benefits and to support a more professional academic writing culture.

Abstract

One strategic effort to implement education for sustainable development is through the School Environmental Care and Culture Movement, known in Indonesia as Gerakan Peduli dan Berbudaya Lingkungan Hidup di Sekolah (PBLHS), formerly the Adiwiyata program. This community service program aimed to assist teachers at MI Miftahul Ulum Gresik in preparing a four-year PBLHS action plan, an annual PBLHS action plan, and lesson plans integrated with environmental education. The integration focused on global, local/regional, and school-based environmental issues to support the school’s readiness for the 2025 National Adiwiyata School Candidate selection. The specific target of this program was to improve teachers’ competence in developing lesson plans integrated with environmental education in accordance with Law No. 32 of 2009 on Environmental Protection and Management, Minister of Environment and Forestry Regulation No. P.52/MENLHK/SETJEN/KUM.1/9/2019 on the PBLHS Movement, and Regulation No. P.53/MENLHK/SETJEN/KUM.1/9/2019 on the Adiwiyata Award. The program was conducted through direct education and training consisting of five stages: preparation, implementation, evaluation, reporting, and dissemination. The preparation stage included needs assessment, development of presentation materials, and preparation of training equipment. The implementation stage involved material delivery and guided practice in preparing PBLHS planning documents and environmentally integrated lesson plans. Evaluation was carried out by reviewing the lesson plan products and collecting participants’ feedback through questionnaires. The results of this community service program included a four-year PBLHS action plan, an annual PBLHS action plan, and one lesson plan integrated with environmental aspects based on global, local/regional, and school-level issues.

Abstract

The problem of plastic waste is a serious challenge in tourism development, including in the development of culture-based tourism. The low level of plastic waste recycling at the community level demonstrates the need for an educational approach that is applicable and empowering. The Community Service Program (PKM), conducted by a team of lecturers and students from the Ecotourism study program at Cristo Re Polytechnic, aims to increase ecological awareness and creative skills among members of the Mawarane Cultural Studio, through training in making sofa chairs from used plastic bottles. The methods used included participatory counseling, demonstrations, hands-on practice, and mentoring over three days. The results of the activity showed an increase in participants' understanding of the concepts of the circular economy and waste management, as well as technical skills in producing simple furniture products that are functional and aesthetically valuable. In addition to producing a physical output in the form of a sofa prototype, the program also encouraged a collective commitment to developing environmentally friendly creativity as part of the studio's identity. This activity demonstrates that the integration of cultural preservation, community empowerment, and environmental management can be an innovative model in supporting sustainable, community-based tourism.

Abstract

The increase in population and development across sectors has led to a growing volume of plastic waste that is difficult to decompose and can harm the environment. In Mandor Village, Mandor District, Landak Regency, the community already has a plastic shredding machine; however, its use remains suboptimal due to a lack of knowledge about plastic type separation. This Community Service Program (PKM) aims to enhance the community’s knowledge and skills in sorting plastic waste using simple methods, enabling it to be processed into economically valuable materials while supporting environmental sustainability. The implementation methods include socialization, education, and direct demonstrations of how to identify plastic types using scratch, flame, and immersion tests. Evaluation was conducted using questionnaires administered before and after the activity to assess participants’ understanding. The results showed a significant increase in the community’s knowledge of plastic types, sorting techniques, and business opportunities in plastic waste processing. The community demonstrated high enthusiasm and commitment to developing independent plastic recycling businesses. This PKM activity successfully increased the awareness and capacity of Mandor Village residents to manage plastic waste effectively, while opening new economic opportunities in the recycling sector. Recommended follow-up actions include digital marketing training and the development of a website to support the promotion and sale of recycled plastic products from Mandor Village.

Abstract

This community service program was implemented to strengthen the operational governance of Nandar Automotive Workshop, which faces several fundamental issues, including limited knowledge of occupational health and safety (OHS), absence of documented Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and insufficient ergonomic toolsets. The program aimed to improve workplace safety, standardize service procedures, and enhance repair productivity through K3 training, SOP development, and optimized tool usage. The implementation involved needs assessment, training sessions, mentoring, and evaluation using pre–post testing, observation checklists, and time-efficiency measurements. The results showed a substantial improvement in participants’ understanding of OHS, with average scores increasing from 50% to 80%. SOP compliance also increased significantly, from 30% to 83%, following structured socialization and mentoring. Toolset optimization reduced the average service time from 63 minutes to 50 minutes, increasing work efficiency by 21%. These achievements indicate that integrating competency development, standardized procedures, and ergonomic tools effectively enhanced organizational performance and the safety culture at the partner workshop. Follow-up recommendations include continuous mentoring, adoption of digital service records, and advanced diagnostic training to strengthen the workshop’s long-term competitiveness.
