Abstract

This community service program aims to strengthen the cultural identity of the Indonesian archipelago among Indonesian migrant children in Malaysia through storytelling training based on Javanese folk tales. The activity was conducted at the Indonesian School in Johor Bahru (SIJB) using a participatory, culture-literacy-based approach. The main media consisted of two storybooks adapted from the Si Kancil Nyolong Timun storybook, compiled in two languages (Javanese and Indonesian) and featuring contextual illustrations. Through interactive storytelling training, cultural value discussions, and teacher mentoring, this activity showed a significant increase in students' cultural knowledge, ability to understand moral values, and pride in their native culture. This article shows that fairy tales are an effective medium for character education and cultural preservation within the Indonesian diaspora.

Abstract

Villages play a strategic role as the smallest administrative unit within the government structure and as the centers of community life, supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). However, conditions observed in many villages—particularly in Kedungudi Village, Trawas, and Mojokerto—indicate a shift in community values driven by climate change, urbanization, and the limited contributions of local government. Kedungudi Village possesses diverse resources that can be optimized, including local wisdom, social capital, and community solidarity. Therefore, there is a need to provide capacity building on locally based food security that is tolerant and respects diversity within the village community. In this context, a community service program (Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat/PKM) implemented in UNESA’s assisted “Pancasila pilot village” in Kedungudi has generated benefits through the dissemination of good practices. This program aims to strengthen locally based food security to reinforce the Asta Cita agenda and Pancasila character among residents of Kedungudi Village, Trawas Subdistrict, Mojokerto Regency. The participants comprised 21 community members: two village officials, five members of the youth organization (Karang Taruna), and 14 representatives of farmer and non-farmer groups. The program’s intended outcomes included a substantial improvement in locally based food security as an instrument for strengthening the Asta Cita agenda and the Pancasila character of Kedungudi residents. To achieve these outcomes, the program employed a direct capacity-building model delivered through two on-the-job training sessions. The training activities incorporated a door-to-door approach (DTD) and focus group discussions (FGDs). To ensure program sustainability, participants were organized into peer community groups, facilitated by peer educators from the PKM lecturer team. Each peer group is expected to further develop knowledge and disseminate it to other residents within the community.

Abstract

The development of digital technology has transformed the way society accesses and appreciates cultural arts, making the preservation of traditional dance require adaptive strategies that use social media. This community service program aims to improve Sanggar Tari Mugi Lestari's social media management skills to support cultural promotion and preservation. The implementation method used a participatory approach comprising several stages: identifying technical needs, training in digital content production, social media management workshops, production simulations, continuous content broadcasting, and performance quality evaluation. The results showed a significant improvement in the partner’s capacity, both in technical production skills (camera operation, lighting, and image capturing) and content management skills (content calendar development, caption and hashtag strategies, and audience engagement). Within two months of implementation, the dance studio successfully broadcast 10 pieces of digital content on Instagram and TikTok, resulting in a notable increase in viewers and interactions, thereby expanding its cultural promotion outreach. Initially lacking equipment, skills, and digital strategies, the studio can now independently manage active social media accounts. In conclusion, strengthening social media management skills has proven effective as a strategy for preserving traditional dance in the digital era, while also creating opportunities for cross-community collaboration, supporting a culture-based creative economy, and contributing to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs 4 and 8). Follow-up efforts will focus on developing more diverse content, exploring digital monetization, and expanding cultural promotion networks.

Abstract

This Community Service Program aims to improve the competency of high school mathematics teachers in Magetan Regency in developing questions based on Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS). The training is designed to provide a deep understanding of HOTS concepts, including cognitive levels C4 (analysis), C5 (evaluation), and C6 (creation), and to equip teachers to design contextual, relevant questions that meet students' needs. With this approach, teachers are expected to produce questions that not only assess students' basic abilities but also foster their critical, creative, and analytical thinking. The training will be conducted through several stages: HOTS concept socialization, a question development workshop, classroom simulations, and post-training mentoring. Teachers will be trained to develop question outlines, select engaging contextual stimuli, and develop HOTS-based questions in accordance with the Merdeka Curriculum and Minimum Competency Assessment (MCA) standards. Additionally, a questionnaire will be used to assess teachers' understanding of the training material. Participants found this activity highly beneficial in improving teacher competency, both in material delivery, question development, and knowledge of the latest curriculum.

Abstract

Tantan Village, as part of the Integrated Laboratory Village (DLT) of Universitas Jambi, has great potential to develop human resources, particularly teachers who serve as the front line of educational transformation. However, most educators in this area still have limited digital literacy and minimal exposure to emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI). This condition hinders the creation of adaptive, contextual, and innovative learning environments that align with the demands of the 21st century. This community service program was designed to enhance teachers’ capacity in utilizing Generative AI for educational purposes. The training employed a participatory and practice-based approach, consisting of three main stages: (1) Needs assessment and baseline survey, aimed at identifying teachers’ existing digital competencies and challenges in classroom practice; (2) Integrated training sessions, combining theoretical introductions to AI concepts with hands-on workshops using Generative AI tools to create teaching materials and automate administrative tasks; and (3) Community formation and mentoring, where participants collaboratively developed digital lesson plans and established a sustainable Digital Teacher Community of Tantan Village for peer learning and ongoing professional development. Data were collected through post-training questionnaires, observation sheets, and focus group discussions. The results indicate significant improvements in teachers’ digital literacy, confidence, and creativity in integrating AI tools into their teaching practice. Furthermore, the creation of a collaborative digital teacher network has fostered long-term engagement and innovation within the local education ecosystem. This program demonstrates that integrating Generative AI into teacher training can effectively bridge the digital literacy gap and accelerate the implementation of Smart Village initiatives by empowering and equipping educators with the technology they need.

Abstract

The Olimpiade Sains Nasional (OSN) in Informatics is a prestigious competition that demands mastery of programming and problem-solving. SMA Kolese de Britto, located in Yogyakarta, faced a challenge in preparing its students for this event due to a limited number of qualified teachers. To address this problem, a community service program in the form of intensive training was implemented through a collaboration with the Fakultas Teknologi Informasi (FTI) UKDW. The program's execution involved five key stages: partner application, coordination and planning, material preparation, training implementation, and evaluation. The training was conducted in 12 sessions, both online and offline, for five students who were pre-selected by the school. The material focused on algorithms, logic, and C++ programming, all highly relevant to past OSN questions. The results showed that one student successfully advanced to the provincial level of the Olimpiade Sains Nasional. Evaluations from both the school and the participating students revealed very high satisfaction, with an average score of 4.5 to 5 on a 5-point scale. This outcome underscores the training's relevance and effectiveness. The students' initial lack of programming knowledge was also successfully overcome. Both the school and the students highly recommend that a similar training program be held again in the following year.

Abstract

Household waste management in RW 03, Kelurahan Genuk, Ungaran Barat, is still carried out conventionally without sorting, causing environmental pollution, reduced air and soil quality, and limiting the potential utilization of waste. This community service program aims to increase residents' awareness, knowledge, and skills in household waste management through the establishment of RW 03 Waste Bank and the application of simple, appropriate technologies, such as composters, waste sorters, and recycling tables. A participatory approach was implemented through stages of coordination and socialization, followed by a needs analysis, training, and practice in making compost, ecoenzymes, and upcycling products, with continuous mentoring and evaluation. The results show the establishment of RW 03 Waste Bank, an increase in residents’ participation in waste management up to 70%, and regular use of appropriate technology facilities. This program offers tangible benefits, including enhanced environmental awareness, community independence in managing waste, and economic value from processed waste products, while also serving as a replicable model for community empowerment in other areas.

Abstract

The partner for this mentoring activity is the YATI Kamang Mudik Islamic Boarding School, which is facing a severe imbalance in the amount of Quran memorization among students. Differences in memory capacity mean that some participants memorize faster, while others fall far behind. This issue not only affects memorization achievement but also impacts motivation, self-confidence, and the overall effectiveness of the tahfiz learning process. Therefore, immediate intervention is needed to introduce learning methods that can equalize students' memorization abilities. One of the proposed efforts is the implementation of the tikrar method, which is an intensive and structured memorization repetition technique. The mentoring activity was conducted using the Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach, directly involving students thru three main stages: (1) planning activities based on identifying partner problems; (2) implementing the tikrar method of mentoring thru repeated memorization practice and using audio speakers as an aid; and (3) evaluation to assess memorization progress and students' responses to the application of the method. The mentoring results showed that the tikrar method, applied consistently, was able to improve the quality and quantity of students' memorization. The use of audio speakers helps clarify pronunciation, strengthen auditory memory, and make it easier for participants to follow along independently.

Abstract

This community service program aims to socialize and develop SITEKUM (Integrated MSME Information System) as a digital platform to support the registration, data management, and marketing processes of MSME products in Kertarahayu Village, Setu District, Bekasi Regency. The village has considerable economic potential, particularly in MSMEs engaged in processed food products such as salak candy, cassava chips, and other traditional foods. However, MSME owners still face obstacles related to business legality, record-keeping, and access to technology-based promotion. The method used in this community service activity is Participatory Action Research (PAR), which emphasizes active collaboration between the community service team, MSME owners, and village officials. Data collection techniques include interviews, focus group discussions (FGDs), training sessions, and direct trials of the SITEKUM system. This approach was chosen to ensure that the system developed truly aligns with real needs in the field. The results show that SITEKUM can improve the efficiency of MSME data management, accelerate the registration process, and expand product marketing reach through online platforms. In addition, the active involvement of residents fosters a sense of ownership of the system and enhances the long-term sustainability of SITEKUM’s use.

Abstract

Bita Beach is a coastal area of the south coast in the Mautapaga District. This beach is located on the coast of the Sawu Sea, which is directly connected to the Indian Ocean. Therefore, this region often experiences the impact of extreme weather anomalies. The southern coastal region often experiences abrasion due to tidal waves. The presence of abrasion vulnerability is also due to the lack of vegetation in coastal areas. When the tide is high, the coastal area often experiences abrasion, and a slight wave can wash up on the houses of residents. Faced with these conditions, one solution is to implement abrasion mitigation activities. The mitigation activity determined is the planting of Waru Trees. Of course, this is not the result of the team's speculation but of its research into various mitigation best practices across different areas affected by abrasion. Waru trees have been proven to thrive in dry, hot coastal regions. Waru also has sturdy trunks and strong roots, so it can be relied on to control the speed of sea waves in the coastal areas (mitigating coastal abrasion). This abrasion mitigation activity is also part of the implementation of project-based MKWK to overcome environmental problems faced by the coastal community of Bita Beach. With the implementation of this activity, students have been involved in providing solutions to the problem of abrasion as well as forming the character of Pancasilais to provide the basic direction of education towards the realization of a young generation that is intellectual, noble, human, and has a sense of nationality based on Pancasila and UUD 1945.
