Abstract

Early childhood is a crucial developmental phase characterized by rapid brain growth and high neuroplasticity, making it an important period for introducing literacy and creativity. However, children at LPQ SekolahQu experienced low reading interest and limited opportunities for creative expression due to monotonous and text-centered learning methods. This community service program aimed to utilize zine media as a creative literacy tool to improve children’s reading interest and creativity at LPQ SekolahQu. The program employed participatory, educational, and interactive approaches through the use of mini zines designed with colorful illustrations, short thematic stories, games, and visual activities adapted to children’s cognitive development. The implementation involved several stages, including preparation of zine content, free reading sessions, guided discussions, scaffolding assistance, visual literacy exploration, and qualitative evaluation through participatory observation. The results demonstrated that the use of zines significantly increased children’s enthusiasm, engagement, and confidence during literacy activities. Children became more engaged in reading, discussing stories, expressing their opinions, and retelling narratives using their own words. In addition, the visual and interactive elements of zines stimulated imagination and creativity, as reflected in children’s spontaneous interest in drawing and creating their own stories. The program successfully transformed the learning atmosphere into a more enjoyable, interactive, and child-friendly environment. Therefore, zine-based creative literacy media can be considered an effective alternative learning model for fostering reading interest, creativity, visual literacy, and communication skills in non-formal Islamic educational institutions.

Abstract

The development of Generative Artificial Intelligence (Gen-AI) provides new opportunities to support learning transformation, especially in learning to write English. However, the use of this technology requires strengthening digital literacy and understanding the ethics of using AI by teachers so that it can be appropriately integrated in the learning process. This community service activity aims to strengthen teachers' digital literacy through the Gen-AI Writing Assistant–Integrated Digital Writing Platform Workshop at SMAN 5 Cirebon City. The activity was carried out using a participatory approach through the stages of preparation, workshop implementation, discussion, and reflection. The material presented included the basic concepts of Gen-AI, digital literacy, the use of Gen-AI Writing Assistant in learning to write English, prompt preparation techniques, and ethics and academic integrity in the use of AI. In addition to delivering the material, the speakers demonstrated the main features of the digital writing platform and opened an interactive discussion session with teachers. The results showed that participants gained a better understanding of the potential and challenges of using Gen-AI in learning, and showed high enthusiasm through discussions on AI integration strategies in the classroom. The workshop also serves as a forum for sharing experiences and building awareness about the importance of using AI critically, ethically, and responsibly. This activity is expected to be the first step in strengthening teachers' digital competence and becoming a model of professional development that can be replicated in other schools to support the transformation of education towards a Golden Indonesia 2045.

Abstract

Character formation and identity development are fundamental aspects of adolescent growth that require continuous support through faith formation. Ninth-grade students at SMP Negeri Hamar encounter various developmental challenges, including low self-confidence, poor learning discipline, limited emotional regulation skills, as well as the influences of the social environment and rapid digital technological advancement. This community service program aimed to strengthen students' character and self-identity through faith formation mentoring based on a participatory-reflective approach. The program employed several methods, including preliminary observation, interactive presentations, experiential reflection, group discussions, deepening of Christian faith values, and the formulation of personal commitments as a means of applying these values in daily life. This approach positioned students as active participants who experienced, reflected upon, and internalized faith values throughout the learning process. The findings indicate that the participants actively engaged in all mentoring activities, developed a deeper understanding of their self-identity and Christian values, demonstrated increased self-confidence and responsibility, and showed a stronger commitment to practicing positive character values within their school, family, and community environments. Therefore, participatory reflective faith formation serves as an effective strategy for fostering adolescents' character development and strengthening their self-identity in response to contemporary developmental challenges.

Abstract

Anak usia sekolah dasar memerlukan lingkungan belajar yang mendukung pembentukan karakter sekaligus pengembangan potensi diri. Namun, masih terdapat keterbatasan akses terhadap kegiatan edukatif yang terintegrasi di lingkungan masyarakat. Oleh karena itu, Program Desa Binaan Ceria di Desa Kanoman Utara dilaksanakan sebagai upaya penguatan karakter dan pengembangan potensi anak melalui kegiatan pendidikan, keagamaan, dan seni. Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini melibatkan 52 peserta yang didominasi oleh anak usia sekolah dasar. Program dilaksanakan selama delapan pertemuan dengan metode pendampingan partisipatif yang mencakup kegiatan calistung, mengaji, dan menari. Selain itu, peserta memperoleh pendampingan belajar serta persiapan penampilan untuk kegiatan puncak program. Evaluasi kegiatan dilakukan melalui observasi partisipasi, keterlibatan, dan kemampuan peserta selama mengikuti program. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan peningkatan antusiasme belajar, kedisiplinan, tanggung jawab, kepercayaan diri, serta kemampuan bekerja sama antar peserta. Pengembangan potensi anak juga terlihat dari kemampuan peserta menampilkan pidato, murotal Al-Qur'an, dan tari tradisional pada acara puncak sebagai bentuk apresiasi hasil belajar. Kegiatan ini mendapat respons positif dari orang tua dan masyarakat karena mampu menyediakan ruang pembelajaran yang menyenangkan sekaligus mendukung perkembangan karakter dan bakat anak. Dengan demikian, Program Desa Binaan Ceria dapat menjadi salah satu alternatif program pengabdian masyarakat yang efektif dalam mendukung penguatan karakter dan pengembangan potensi anak di lingkungan pedesaan.

Abstract

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) play a crucial role in Indonesia’s economic development, particularly in the food processing sector. However, many still face challenges in production efficiency, product branding, and digital marketing. This community service program aims to empower a fried shallot SME through production modernization, branding enhancement, and digital marketing expansion. The methods implemented include training on operating appropriate technology tools such as spinner fryers and oil drainers, mentoring in packaging and logo design, and digital marketing workshops using Instagram and online marketplaces. The results show a 40% increase in production efficiency, improved product quality, and higher engagement in online sales channels. This activity demonstrates that combining technological innovation with strategic branding and digital marketing significantly increases the competitiveness and sustainability of local SMEs.

Abstract

This community service program aims to improve the critical thinking skills of Psychology students at the University of Jambi through interactive psychoeducational activities. The background of this community service is the low critical thinking skills of students, as demonstrated by a tendency to accept information without in-depth analysis and minimal active participation in the learning process. The implementation method is a three-day psychoeducational program conducted at the Jambi Agricultural Training Center, involving Psychology students from the 2024–2025 intake. The activity stages include collecting initial data through questionnaires, Focus Group Discussions, and interviews, followed by implementing psychoeducation based on CEK-IN (Cermati dan Kritisi Informasi) materials, SIGAP case study discussions, and the interactive Tower of Logic game. The activity evaluation was carried out using pretest and posttest methods to measure changes in participants' logical reasoning abilities. The results showed that most participants experienced increased and stable critical thinking skills after participating in the psychoeducational activities, while a decrease in scores among a small number of participants was attributable to situational factors. These findings indicate that interactive psychoeducation is effective in developing students' critical thinking skills and can serve as an alternative learning strategy that encourages analytical, reflective, and logical attitudes when facing academic and daily-life challenges.

Abstract

Cassava is a local food commodity with significant potential to support food security and strengthen the rural community economy. However, the utilization of cassava in Girilaya Village remains limited to simple processed products, resulting in suboptimal economic value added. This community service activity aims to enhance community skills in processing cassava into value-added products while strengthening the managerial capacity of village-based Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). The implementation method employed a descriptive qualitative approach through several stages, including preparation, educational seminars, practical demonstrations of cassava processing, and activity evaluation. The activity involved 15 participants, including MSME actors, members of the Family Welfare Movement (PKK), and residents of Girilaya Village. The results indicate an improvement in participants’ knowledge and skills in diversifying processed cassava products, such as kodehel, opak beca, and cassava croquettes, as well as enhanced understanding of branding, marketing, and business legality. This activity contributes to strengthening the village's creative economy through the optimization of cassava utilization as a local flagship commodity.

Abstract

Low levels of medication literacy among communities and adolescents may lead to medication misuse, irrational self-medication, increased risk of adverse effects, and antibiotic resistance. Medication literacy encompasses the ability to access, understand, evaluate, and appropriately use medication-related information. This community service program aimed to improve medication literacy through interactive educational interventions in Sumbawa Island. The program employed interactive lectures, group discussions, medication-use simulations, and the distribution of educational materials. Activities were conducted in public areas and involved 50 respondents, consisting of adolescents and members of the general public. A pre-test and post-test design was used to evaluate improvements in participants’ ability to access, understand, evaluate, and use medication information. The results demonstrated significant improvements across all measured variables. Correct knowledge regarding appropriate sources of side-effect information (health professionals) increased from 30% to 100%. The ability to read and interpret medication dosage labels improved from 46% to 84%. Awareness of the need to complete prescribed antibiotics rose from 6% to 96%. Critical attitudes toward medication advertisements on social media also improved, with 82% of respondents indicating the need to verify information sources after the intervention. Practical skills in medication use increased substantially, including correct understanding of dosing intervals (from 2% to 78%) and appropriate emergency action by taking poisoning victims to healthcare facilities (from 40% to 100%). In conclusion, interactive medication literacy education effectively enhances knowledge, attitudes, and skills related to safe and rational medication use among communities and adolescents. This program is feasible for replication as part of broader public health strategies to strengthen health literacy.

Abstract

Community service activities on healthy living, counseling, and the processing of used cooking oil waste were provided to residents of Muara Village, Teluk Naga District, Tangerang Regency, Banten Province. This is due to a lack of knowledge about healthy living and the use of cooking oil, and to the impact of used cooking oil waste, which can pollute the environment. Therefore, the method used is counseling to provide knowledge that used cooking oil waste can be properly managed by partners. Activities to overcome partner problems, namely the lack of knowledge about healthy living, including how to use cooking oil and dispose of used cooking oil waste without causing environmental pollution, can increase income for partner households. The activity was held in three stages, namely the first stage of a preliminary survey to determine the condition of partners and coordination with used cooking oil waste collectors for waste collection techniques, the second stage is to provide counseling to partners to provide knowledge about healthy living and how to manage used cooking oil waste so as not to pollute the environment and can increase partner household income and the third stage is an evaluation of the counseling provided. The aim of this activity is to enable partners to live healthy lives by using cooking oil in their daily lives, to manage used cooking oil waste so that it does not pollute the environment in accordance with sustainable principles, and to increase the income of partner households.

Abstract

The management of laboratory equipment in the Light Vehicle Engineering (TKR) department at SMK Manangga Pratama was previously done manually, which is vulnerable to recording errors and difficulties in monitoring tool stock. This community service activity aims to provide training and mentoring for the digitalization of inventory management through the implementation of a web-based Practicum Lab Equipment Information System (BengkelTrack). The implementation method includes requirements analysis, system development, testing, installation, and hands-on training for laboratory admins and the Principal. The result of this activity is the implementation of a digital inventory application featuring tool data management, borrowing, transaction history, and automatic report generation. Through mentoring, partners showed high enthusiasm and independence in operating the system. In conclusion, the implementation of this system has proven to facilitate the performance of teachers and staff in documenting assets in real-time and assists the Principal in monitoring the availability of practical facilities. As a follow-up recommendation, regular system maintenance and the development of mobile-friendly features are suggested to increase monitoring flexibility.
