Abstract

The apostle Paul has been justifiably described as the first and greatest Christian theologian. His letters were among the earliest documents to be included in the New Testament and, as such, they shaped Christian thinking from the beginning. As a missionary, theologian, and pastor Paul wrestles with theological and ethical questions of his day in a way paradigmatic for Christian theology. After his “calling” as a missionary of the Gospel and Jesus’ apostle, Paul builds all of his theologies based upon Christ. He “christologizes” his theologies. Since the beginning Paul has always been an uncomfortable and controversial figure in the history of Christianity. The accusation against the prophet Elijah by Israel’s King Ahab, ‘you troubler of Israel’ (1 Ks. 18:17), could be levelled against Paul more fittingly than any other of the first Christians. Marcion, Irenaeus, Tertullian and Valentinus in the second century are only few examples of how his theologies can become controversial subjects. In fact until now Paul’s theologies have remained one of the most disputable subjects in Christian theology either for Christians themselves or non-Christian believers.

Abstract

The true religious feeling is rooted in adoration. The taste of adoration is derived from the experience of God which indeed shake one’s soul. On one side, the experience of God leads to the recognition of God as the Great Creator of the universe. In this case, God is experienced as the everything. On the other side, it causes that human being encounters the self-recognition as a helpless creature. One feels as a nothingness of creature here. The feeling of adoration, therefore, has a religious structure in human soul that has a direction to God. As the structure of soul, the adoration is likely to be subjective which means that the subject experiences God (the world of ideas) and at the same time, it is objective that God is experienced by the subject (the real world). The object of the experience of adoration is, particularly, transcendent. Finally, the sense of adoration is needed to revive the living of faith for the believers.

Abstract

Salah satu perbedaan antara Perjanjian Lama (PL) dan Perjanjian Baru(PB) adalah gambaran akan Allah. PL menekankan bahwa Allah itu tak terlihat,sedangkan PB menyatakan bahwa Allah telah menjadi manusia dalam diriYesus Kristus yang dapat terlihat. Salah satu kata yang menggambarkanpengalaman akan Allah adalah “melihat.” Kata tersebut tersebar baik dalam PLmaupun PB. Khususnya dalam Injil Yohanes, digunakan empat kata yangberbeda maknanya untuk menyebut kata “melihat”: βλέ̟ειν, θεωρεῖν, θεᾶσθαιdan ὁρᾶν. Kata “ὁρᾶν” mengekspresikan penglihatan yang paling dalam diantara yang lain. Berdasarkan Yoh. 19:35, kata tersebut akan diteliti denganmelihat perbandingannya dengan teks lain, khususnya Yoh. 1:34, dimanaberpangkal dari pengalaman melihat itu orang mampu memberikan kesaksian.

Abstract

It is a task of the Church to tell the world of God's love at whatever time. She is called to be an internally significant and externally relevant Church. How is the Catholic Church able to share a spirituality meaningful and fruitful life with today's people? In order to be able to commit that call, She has to discern the signs of times or kairos. The Catholic Church of Arcdiocese of Medan is also assigned to that task, so that she can give adequate responses to the needs of the faithful and society she faces with. The more she can truely and ecxactly response to the signs of times, the more she can help people to think and act in terms of God. The way of the Church of Arcdiocese of Medan puts them into practise, is the formulation of her vision and mission in the booklet released on March 25th, 2002.

Abstract

This article is intended to show the development of and the mutual interaction between the adat (their local, "ancestral" customs) and Christian religion in Batak society (North Sumatra). The author wants to show that in the first period of the mission, the goal was quantity in numbers and area. So the strategy was 'laufen und taufen'. Part of this strategy means that they took certain elements of local culture to christianity, inculturation. But in the second period the missionaries changed their method from quantity to quality. This means that relation between adat and Christian religion changed into interculturation. In this process dialogue is essential, 'sitzen und zu hören'.

Abstract

Tatkala dunia diterpa oleh berbagai kekerasan yang mengakibatkan rentetan tragedi dan penderitaan, Paus Fransiskus menetapkan Yubileum Luar Biasa Kerahiman. Paus yakin, bahwa kekerasan hanya dapat diretas bila manusia menjadikan belas kasih sebagai spirit dan landasan hidup, dalam berpikir maupun bertindak. Masa depan yang lebih baik, damai dan bersaudara dapat dicapai bila manusia belajar hidup menurut citranya yang sejati, yakni Allah, yang telah menciptakan manusia menurut gambar dan rupa-Nya sendiri. Citra Allah tidak lain adalah belas kasih. Seruan untuk berbelas kasih seperti Bapa merupakan ajakan untuk menghidupi jati diri manusia seperti tatkala ia diciptakan. Oleh dosa, manusia kehilangan gambaran diri Allah dalam dirinya. Yesus datang dan menjadi manusia untuk memulihkan citra manusia dan mewujudkan belas kasih Allah. Umat beriman, dengan bercermin pada Yesus dan merenungkan Injil, diajak menjadi insan yang berberlas kasih dan murah hati, sebagaimana tertuang dalam motto yubileum luar biasa ini, yakni Misericordes sicut Pater.

Abstract

Alkitab menyebut berbagai macam penyakit seperti yang dijelaskan oleh M. Sussman dalam artikelnya “Sickness and Disease”.[1] Fokus artikel ini adalah membahas penyakit menular dalam hubungannya dengan kata Ibrani neg̱a‘, lalu menjadi plēgē dalam kata Yunani, yang mempunyai arti: “pukulan”, “tulah”, “wabah”, atau “malapetaka”. PL membawa konsep bahwa Tuhan terlibat aktif dalam mendatangkan atau mengirim penyakit bagi orang atau bangsa tertentu. Sedangkan PB mengangkat penyakit untuk menunjukkan bahwa Yesus datang untuk melenyapkannya. Dalam perbedaan ini, mungkinkah ada kesatuan atau kesamaan teologi yang diangkat oleh PL dan PB?.

Abstract

No single of the revealed religions nor Islam, encourages or teachesviolence to its believers. Islam which is based on the Qur’an as its HolyScripture summons its faithfuls to spread peace, harmony and socialwelfare. It is true that we find several verses that encourage war, but jihadin the sense of holy war in Islam is the last way of a self defense after allgood manner of dialogs fail to bear fruits of understanding. In these sensejihad could be done because the truth must stand firm before evil.

Abstract

Pedoman Pendidikan Kapusin yang berlaku secara internasional, dan dijabarkan di jajaran (lokal) agar sesuai dengan kontes budaya dan zaman, merupakan sarana untuk mereformasi materi dan pola pendidikan Kapusin berkharisma. Pedoman ini membantu proses pembentukan saudara Kapusin generasi baru agar berperan aktif dan isnpsiratif di zaman aktualnya. Para saudara yang berpendidikan berlanjut berperan penting untuk menuntun para saudara berpendidikan awal, agar siap latih dan tetap belajar di zaman multikultur, perkembangan teknologi terutama bidang media sosial, serta pola hidup yang berubah dan baru. Injil Kristus yang dihidupi oleh St. Fransiskus adalah dasar pedoman pendidikan Kapusin di atasnya dibangun gagasan berharga dan pola pendidikan yang relevan. St. Fransiskus memesankan agar para saudara menghayati Injil terutama hidup bersaudara dengan love freely given, fidelity to Poverty and obedience to the Church. Pelaku aktif dan inspiratif di zaman aktual adalah pribadi berinegritas, matang dalam 5 dimensi: kharismatis, manusiawi, rohani, intelektual, dan misi. Pribadi yang berintegritas berpengaruh di konteks anthropological pluralism and the digital world (cyber-anthropology). Kekayaan berakar kharisma serta budaya berbeda perlu dipelajari, serta kemajuan bersayap baru dalam wajah teknologi baru khusunya teknologi media sosial, pantas digeluti secara bertanggung jawab. Anggur baru harus ditempatkan dalam kantong kulit baru. Dengan menghidupi dan mengobarkan nyala kharisma kapusin bernew mindset dalam new contexts, para saudara Kapusin generasi baru hidup bersuka cita untuk membangunkan dunia.

Abstract

Psalm 87 has some filological and textual problems that make difficulties in translating it to other languages. The problems has result in different translations or different meanings in some edition. However, it has becoming an object of study and a base of valutation in making an alternative translation. So, the different translation is not at all an obstacle to profound the psalm. The knowledge of grammatical hebrew’s system, the original text in Textus Masoreticus and different editions or translations help us to understand the disposition of the problems and to determine a new opinion. The understanding of context and theology of the psalm help us to estimate its sitz im leben. The study of the structur facilitates a reader to realize that the psalm is one of the Korahites which has a focus to exalt Jerusalem as a city of God.
