Abstract

Children's welfare in the health aspect can be seen in the level of growth and development of children. Socio-demographics and family food security are important because they affect the nutritional status of the community. If food security and sociodemographics are lacking, nutritional status will also be lacking and cause a decline in health status. This condition can lead to malnutrition or stunting in the community. This study aims to analyze the influence of socio-demographics and food security on the incidence of stunting in Medan City. This type of research is quantitative observational with a survey research study design using a cross-sectional study design that examines at a certain point in time the entire sample population or predetermined subset. The sample in this study was 266 toddlers from Medan Tuntungan, Medan Maimun, Medan Sunggal, Medan Helvetia and Medan Denai sub-districts. The analytical method used is bivariate analysis using the chi square test and multivariate analysis using logistic regression. The results showed that there was a positive and significant effect of the variables of mother's education, birth spacing and family income on the incidence of stunting in toddlers in Medan City with a p value <0.05. Furthermore, it was found that there was no significant effect of the variable number of children, mother's occupation and family food security on the incidence of stunting in toddlers in Medan City. Mothers should be able to find additional sources of income that can increase family income without neglecting the provision of good parenting for toddlers. This is done to increase the understanding of mothers in providing adequate nutritional intake to children under five

Abstract

Oxygen is one of the supports of multicellular life and is necessary for aerobic metabolism. However, the use of oxygen can produce by-products, one of which is reactive oxygen species (ROS) which can also increase due to external factors such as exposure to ionizing rays, and vehicle smoke. When reactive oxygen species levels are high, the body can experience a condition called oxidative stress, which is a condition that can cause tissue damage. To overcome this, antioxidants are needed, namely compounds that can donate electrons to free radicals to neutralize their effects. Antioxidants are divided into endogenous antioxidants and exogenous antioxidants. Endogenous antioxidants are antioxidants found in the body. Exogenous antioxidants are antioxidants that come from outside the body. Because there is an increase in ROS levels due to external influences, an increase in exogenous antioxidants is needed, one of which is chamomile flowers. This study evaluated qualitative phytochemical levels using the Harnborne method, total antioxidant capacity using the Blois method, total quantitative levels of alkaloids using the Trivedi et al method, BSLT toxicity using the Meyer method, and fingerprint analysis using HPTLC. The obtained chamomile flowers are dried and extracted by maceration using methanol solvent. The test results on chamomile flowers revealed phytochemical content in the form of alkaloids, betasianin, cardioglycosides, coumarins, flavonoids, phenols, quinones, saponins, steroids, tepenoids and tannins. Antioxidant ability 209.27 g/ml; Total alkaloid content of 12.62 g/ml; toxicity 174.39 g/mL; As well as fingerprint analysis chamomile flowers have active ingredients. Therefore, chamomile flowers can serve as a moderate antioxidant with antimitotic activity.

Abstract

Antioxidants are a set of compounds that can fight the effects of reactive oxygen species (ROS) so as to eliminate their effects in the form of damage to macromolecules of carbohydrates, fats, proteins, and DNA chains. One source of antioxidants that are easily available and widely available is through herbal ingredients such as marigold flowers (Tagetes erecta L.). Marigold flowers are well known and used as a source of antioxidants, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, diuretic and accelerate wound healing. This flower is often consumed as an edible flower and is also drunk in the form of tea. This study aims to look for the antioxidant capacity, total phenolic, total alkaloids, and toxicity of marigold flowers. Marigold flower extract is obtained by evaporating the results of methanol maceration from dried marigold flowers. Test antioxidant capacity with DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrilhydrazyl) using Blois method, total phenolic using Singleton and Rossi method, total alkaloid by method by Trivedi et al, and BSLT toxicity by Meyer method. The antioxidant capacity of marigold flowers is measured in IC50 as much as 74.5 μg/mL which includes active antioxidant levels. The total phenolic content of marigold flowers was obtained as much as 10,350.68 μg/mL. Total alkaloid levels were obtained as much as 13.05 μg/mL. The BSLT toxicity test in LC50 is 162.82 μg/mL which is categorized as moderate toxicity. From the results of this study, marigold flowers can be used as a source of antioxidants and have antimitotic properties.
