Abstract

Abstract

The objective of this research was to study  a kinetic model of biodiesel production from waste cooking oil assisted by ultrasound power. The model considered the biodiesel production process as a 2nd order reversible reaction, while its kinetic parameters were estimated using MATLAB, based on data extracted from Hingu, et al. [1]. The data represented experiments under low-frequency ultrasonic wave (20 kHz) and variations of temperature, power, catalyst concentration, and alcohol-oil molar ratio. Statistical analysis showed that the proposed model fits well to the experimental data with a determination coefficient (R2) higher than 0.9.

Abstract

Microalgae cultivated in mixotrophic conditions have received significant attention as a suitable source of biofuel feedstock, based on their high biomass and lipid productivity. POME is one of the wastewaters generated from palm oil mills, containing important nutrients that could be suitable for mixotrophic microalgae growth. The aim of this research was to identify the growth of Chlorella vulgaris cultured in POME medium under mixotrophic conditions in relation to a variety of organic carbon sources added to the POME mixture. The research was conducted with 3 different carbon sources (D-glucose, crude glycerol and NaHCO3) in 40% POME, monitored over 6 days, under an illumination of 3000 lux, and with pH = 7. The biomass was harvested using an autoflocculation method and dry biomass was extracted using an ultrasound method in order to obtain the lipid content. The results show that C. vulgaris using D-glucose as carbon source gained a lipid productivity of 195 mg/l/d.

Abstract

Kata Kunci: Fitoremediasi, tanaman air, Spirulina, limbah jamu, biomassa ABSTRACT Herbal medicine industry in Indonesia is progressing very rapidly. Increasing number of herbal medicine industries lead to an increase of the waste which are normally processed in anaerobic ponds by using chemical and biological process. However this process are not economical feasible and therefore an alternative method by using natural resource is required. Phytoremediation is an environmental friendly method to reduce contaminant using plant. This method uses water plant to reduce COD and nutrients content in the waste. Since the waste still high content of nutrient, therefore it is potential for medium growth of algae Spirulina. This study was aimed to evaluate the use of various plant species (water hyacinth and lotus) in decreasing contaminant and to determine optimal nutrient composition of the microalgae growth media. The phytoremediation was performed in 3-8 days and height of liquid in the tank was maintained constant at 5 cm. The effluent of first phytoremediation was transferred to second stage for cultivation of Spirulina with 15 days of cultivation time. The external nutrients were added each 2 days and the concentration of biomass was measured for its optical density. Spirulina grow well in herbal medicine waste that has been phytoremediation with lotus for 3 days and had a CNP ratio amounted to 57.790 : 9.281 : 1 with a growth rate of 0.271/day. Abstract

This research are to know the correlation of the number of population with the amount of waste inMalang city and biogas potential at Supit Urang landfill. Then also counting the percentage of biogaswhich has been used as gas fuel by citizens around the landfill and as electrical energy potency. Theaverage amount of waste in Malang city is 410,45 ton per day. Organic waste composition at SupitUrang landfill is 64,9% or in the average it’s about 137.989,57 kg per day. From that amount, theaverage of biogas which is produced is 19.146,57 m3 per day or about 574.397,05 m3 per month.Biogas utilization is for fuel gas by 408 houses near the location of that landfill, that’s about 18.385,19m3 per month or about 3,2%. Therefore that’s still has 96,8% biogas potential or about 556.011,86 m3per month which has not been utilized yet. That potency can produce electrical energy 2.613.255,75kWh per month or 3,63 MW. If the average efficiency level of conversion from biogas to electricity is35%, the electric potential become 914.639,51 kWh per month or as big as power station with energy1,27 MW
