Abstract

This study aims to examine and analyze the effect of debt policy and dividend policy on firm value with investment decisions as a moderating variable in food and beverage sub-sector manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) for the 2018-2024 period. Using the purposive sampling method, a sample of 46 companies was obtained with a total of 322 observations, which were analyzed using Panel Data Regression Analysis with the Moderated Regression Analysis (MRA) approach using E-Views 13. The results showed that debt policy has a significant negative effect, while dividend policy has a significant positive effect on firm value. Furthermore, investment decisions are proven to moderate by strengthening the effect of debt policy on firm value, but weakening the effect of dividend policy on firm value. Meanwhile, the control variable firm size has a significant negative effect, whereas firm age has no significant effect on firm value.

Abstract

Soil as a construction supporting material requires accurate physical properties characterization to ensure structural stability and safety. This study aims to characterize the physical properties of soil in the area of the Civil Engineering Laboratory, Politeknik Negeri Medan through testing of water content, specific gravity, Atterberg limits, and gradation analysis. Disturbed soil samples were tested using SNI and ASTM standard procedures. The results showed an average water content of 18.45%, an average specific gravity of 2.6515, a liquid limit (LL) of 25%, and the soil exhibited non-plastic (NP) behavior with the plastic limit unable to be meaningfully determined. Gradation analysis revealed 87.24% sand fraction and only 12.76% passing the No. 200 sieve, with a uniformity coefficient (Cu) of 6.67 and coefficient of curvature (Cc) of 0.60. Based on the USCS system, the soil is classified as SP (Poorly Graded Sand), while according to AASHTO it belongs to group A-3 (Non-plastic Fine Sand). The non-plastic nature of the soil indicates relative stability against moisture changes, making it suitable for use as fill material or road base layer, though susceptibility to erosion and liquefaction under saturated conditions should be considered. This research provides essential geotechnical baseline data for construction planning and further studies within the Politeknik Negeri Medan environment.

Abstract

Seaweed cultivation is an economic sector that plays a crucial role in improving the welfare of coastal communities. However, the success of a cultivation business is not solely determined by production but also by the ability of entrepreneurs to manage their finances. This study aims to analyze financial management practices and identify challenges faced by seaweed farmers in Laju Village, Langgudu District, Bima Regency. The study employed a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collection techniques including observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The informants consisted of purposively selected seaweed farmers. Data analysis employed the Miles and Huberman model, encompassing data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that farmers' financial management practices remain rudimentary, characterized by manual financial record-keeping, a lack of separation between business and household finances, and a lack of systematic financial planning. Key obstacles include fluctuating seaweed prices, limited capital, low financial literacy, limited access to formal financial institutions, and environmental factors that impact production output. This study suggests that improving financial literacy, strengthening access to financing, and training in simple financial record-keeping are necessary to enhance the sustainability of seaweed cultivation businesses.

Abstract

Lifelong education is a right for all from infancy to the end of life. It is closely associated with teaching and learning activities. The intellectual development program, particularly foreign language classes (English, German, and Mandarin) conducted in the library of the Class IIA Women’s Correctional Institution in Bandung, represents a form of non-formal education grounded in the principles of lifelong education. This study aims to examine the dynamics of lifelong education as manifested through foreign language learning programs facilitated by the library. The research employs a qualitative case study approach, with data collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. The findings indicate that the library supports lifelong education through educational activities by attempting to provide learning resources for inmates, despite their limited availability, fostering an intellectual atmosphere, offering adequate facilities and infrastructure, and supplying additional reading materials that encourage inmates to become lifelong learners. In this way, libraries in women's correctional institutions can become agents of lifelong education for inmates.

Abstract

The low basic mathematics ability of children aged 4–5 years at TK Selusaka, West Seram Regency, is characterized by the inability to count in the correct sequence, failure to identify numbers accurately, and insufficient recognition of geometric shapes due to a lack of teaching aids. This study aims to describe and analyze efforts to improve early childhood basic mathematics ability through the utilization of lasa fruit (Castanopsis buruana Miq) as an innovative teaching aid based on local natural resources. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, with data collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews with classroom teachers and the school principal, and documentation. The research subjects were 16 students aged 4–5 years at TK Selusaka. The study was conducted from May 9 to June 9, 2025, preceded by a one-week teacher training on making lasa-based teaching aids (May 19–23, 2025). Results indicate that the use of lasa fruit significantly improved children's basic mathematics ability, including: (1) recognition of numbers 1–10, with 7 out of 16 children beginning to write numerals; (2) sequential counting ability 1–10 improved in 10 out of 16 children; (3) understanding of simple addition and subtraction; and (4) recognition and grouping of geometric shapes. Use of lasa fruit also increased children's motivation, enthusiasm, and active participation. Challenges included the limited durability of organic material, hygiene concerns, and natural variation in fruit size. This study concludes that local natural resources such as lasa fruit have great potential as effective, economical, and contextual mathematics learning media for early childhood.

Abstract

International labor migration is viewed as an effective strategy for improving household economic well-being. For low-income families, working as migrant workers offers an alternative to earn higher incomes compared to job opportunities in their home regions. Job opportunities are available for women, particularly in the Middle East and parts of Asia. However, observations on the ground indicate that the repeated migration experienced by many former migrant women does not always lead to sustainable economic mobility after working abroad. This study aims to analyze the structural poverty experienced by former female migrants and the factors contributing to the failure of economic mobility following repeated migration. The research employed a descriptive qualitative method. The findings indicate that the failure of post-migration economic mobility is influenced by the predominant use of remittances for household consumption, limited access to productive capital, gender inequality in asset ownership, weak economic reintegration programs, low financial literacy, and limited social capital to support business development. These conditions result in repeated migration becoming a survival strategy rather than a means of economic transformation. These findings show that the poverty experienced by former female migrants cannot be understood merely as individual failure, but rather as a consequence of social, economic, and institutional structures that limit their opportunities for economic mobility. Therefore, more comprehensive and gender-sensitive reintegration policies are needed to support the long-term well-being of former female migrants.

Abstract

Adolescence is a period characterized by significant physical, emotional, and social changes that make individuals vulnerable to stress and mental health problems. Low levels of resilience among adolescents can lead to anxiety, decreased motivation, poor academic performance, and an increased risk of negative behaviors. Therefore, resilience plays an important role in helping adolescents manage pressure, recover from adversity, and maintain healthy functioning. The Spiritual Emotional Freedom Technique (SEFT) is a relaxation method that combines tapping on the body's meridian points with affirmations and spiritual elements. SEFT has been shown to help reduce stress and anxiety while improving emotional balance. By regulating emotions and promoting a sense of calmness, SEFT has the potential to enhance adolescent resilience. The long-term objective of this study is to develop SEFT therapy as an effective intervention for improving adolescent resilience, thereby reducing stress, anxiety, and emotional mental health problems. The specific objectives include measuring changes in resilience before and after therapy in both intervention and control groups and analyzing the effect of SEFT on resilience improvement. This study employed a quantitative research approach with a pre–post test design involving 52 students selected through purposive sampling. SEFT therapy was administered through the stages of set-up, tune-in, and tapping, while resilience was measured using the Resilience Scale. Data were analyzed using the t-test to determine the effectiveness of the therapy.

Abstract

Hepatic encephalopathy (HE) is a neuropsychiatric syndrome resulting from impaired liver function, most commonly occurring in patients with liver cirrhosis or acute liver failure. The condition is characterized by a broad spectrum of clinical manifestations, ranging from subtle cognitive impairment to altered consciousness and coma. The primary pathogenesis of HE is associated with the accumulation of ammonia and other neurotoxic substances that cannot be adequately metabolized by the diseased liver, leading to central nervous system dysfunction. This review aims to examine the current management strategies for hepatic encephalopathy based on recent scientific evidence. The method employed was a literature review of scientific journals addressing the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of HE recurrence. The findings indicate that identifying and correcting precipitating factors, such as infections, gastrointestinal bleeding, constipation, electrolyte disturbances, and the use of certain medications, are fundamental components of management. Pharmacological therapy primarily involves lactulose as the first-line treatment to reduce ammonia levels, while rifaximin is commonly used as an adjunctive therapy to prevent recurrence. Adequate nutritional support, including appropriate protein intake, also plays a significant role in improving patient outcomes. In severe or recurrent cases, liver transplantation may serve as the definitive treatment option. A comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach to the management of hepatic encephalopathy can reduce morbidity, prevent recurrence, and improve patients’ quality of life.

Abstract

Undescended testis (UDT), also known as cryptorchidism, is a congenital disorder of the male reproductive system characterized by the failure of one or both testes to descend into the scrotum. It is one of the most common urogenital abnormalities in male infants, particularly among those born prematurely. The etiology of UDT is multifactorial, involving genetic, hormonal, environmental, and anatomical factors that interfere with the normal process of testicular descent. Diagnosis is primarily based on medical history and physical examination, while imaging studies are reserved for selected cases. Untreated UDT may lead to several complications, including impaired fertility, testicular atrophy, inguinal hernia, testicular torsion, and an increased risk of testicular cancer later in life. This review aims to examine the epidemiology, pathophysiology, diagnosis, and management of UDT based on current scientific literature. The findings indicate that orchiopexy is the primary treatment of choice and should ideally be performed before 18 months of age to optimize reproductive function and reduce the risk of long-term complications. Hormonal therapy has a limited role and is not routinely recommended. Early detection and appropriate management are essential to improve prognosis and quality of life in patients with undescended testis.
