Abstract

This research aimed to identify gender representation found in English for Nusantara EFL textbook. This research was qualitative research. The data of this research were collected from English for Nusantara EFL textbook specifically for ninth grade. The researchers adopted a framework form Amini & Birjandi (2012) in analysing the data. The researchers focused on some aspects of gender representation such as visibility, firstness, feminine/ masculine generic construction, activity, and occupation. The finding of this research revealed that there is a gender bias between male and female in the textbook. This imbalance suggests a perpetuation of gender biases that can influence learners' perceptions and expectations regarding gender roles. Educators and curriculum developers must recognize the importance of equitable gender representation to foster an inclusive learning environment. Addressing these biases is essential for promoting gender equality and empowering all students, regardless of gender, to envision a wider range of roles and opportunities.

Abstract

The implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum in Indonesia has brought about significant changes in the educational landscape, particularly through the introduction of Differentiated Instruction. This qualitative descriptive research aimed to analyse the implementation of Differentiated Instruction in the English subject at SMP Islam De Green Camp Tanjungpinang, a Sekolah Penggerak for the Merdeka Curriculum. The study focused on exploring English teachers' perceptions of Differentiated Instruction, their understanding of its concept, and the extent to which it was being implemented in their classrooms. The findings revealed that while teachers generally had a positive perception of the Merdeka Curriculum and Differentiated Instruction, their practical implementation was still evolving. Although they understood the theoretical underpinnings of Differentiated Instruction, there were gaps in fully differentiating all four elements of instruction: content, process, product, and learning environment. This research contributes to the understanding of how Differentiated Instruction is being interpreted and applied in the context of the Merdeka Curriculum, highlighting both the progress made and the areas that require further development to fully realize the potential of Differentiated Instruction in enhancing student learning outcomes.

Abstract

In the educational sphere, technology has brought about significant changes, prompting English teachers to adopt innovative digital solutions to enhance their teaching practices. Quizizz, a dynamic and engaging platform, is one such tool that has gained considerable attention in educational settings. This study explores students' perceptions of Quizizz at Islamic University Balitar, using the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) as a framework. Researchers gather insights through customized interviews and observations, derived from previous research interviews. This tailored approach allows for a more relevant investigation into students' experiences with Quizizz. Once the data collection process is completed, the researcher analyzes the data using methods such as data condensation, data display, and coding. The findings suggest that students generally hold a positive attitude towards Quizizz. They recognize its capacity to augment their learning experiences, making studying more interactive and enjoyable. However, the investigation also reveals several challenges. For instance, unreliable internet connectivity and insufficient technological resources emerge as significant issues. These challenges can hinder the effective use of Quizizz and other digital learning tools. The study recommends that further research in different ESP contexts, such as management studies, could provide a deeper understanding of Quizizz among students. By conducting similar studies in various educational settings, researchers can gain a more comprehensive insight into the impact and effectiveness of Quizizz.

Abstract

The study aims to explore the perceptions of English teachers at SMKN 2 Tanjungpinang towards the implementation of differentiated learning in the context of Merdeka Curriculum. Using a qualitative approach, data was obtained through in-depth interviews and classroom observations. The results show that although teachers understand the concept of differentiated learning, they face various challenges in its implementation. The main obstacles include limited time, human resources and high workloads, so differentiated learning is considered difficult to implement optimally in heterogeneous classes. Teachers also highlighted that differentiated learning, while ideal for supporting students' learning needs, is not always relevant for English subjects that require a communicative approach. This study provides new insights into the importance of tailoring learning strategies to practical needs in the class, as well as underscoring the need for institutional support to ensure more effective implementation.
