Abstract

The students face some difficulties in the English course, especially in learning grammar. Their grammar mastery is low and there are no instructional media specifically used for learning grammar in the English class for online and offline sessions. This research aims to determine the validation and test the feasibility of Grammar Cards Website as instructional media for learning grammar in English course. The participants of this research are 22 students of X MIPA 3 in SMAN 5 Tanjungpinang. The design of this research is qualitative. The process in qualitative data is collected from validation sheets and the practicality test questionnaire. The result of the study shows that Grammar Cards Website is valid and feasible to be used as instructional media in English grammar learning for 10th grade students. Grammar Cards Website instructional media is easy, attractive, and useful.

Abstract

This study aims to determine whether Collaborative Writing Strategy (CWS) is more effective for students writing recount texts in the eighth grade at SMP Negeri 1 Bintan. The research design used in this study was quasi-experimental. The population for this study was eighth-grade students. In this population, two classes were chosen the experimental group (VIII-A) and the control group (VIII-B), each consisting of 29 students. The data for this study was taken from the pre-test and post-test scores of both groups. The data or writing scores of the students were analyzed in terms of frequency distribution, normality, homogeneity, and the T-test. Based on the result of the analysis, there were different means in the experimental group 74.35 in the post-test. The control group was 67.67 in the post-test. The t-test formula was used. Based on the result of the computation, the t-value is 2.133. Based on the result of interpolation, the critical value is 1.701. The t-value is higher than the t-table (2.133 > 1.701). It means that using the Collaborative Writing Strategy (CWS) to teach and learn to write recount texts is more effective.

Abstract

This research aimed to know whether is there any effect or not of using heroes Mobile Legends Bang-Bang (MLBB) on writing a legend story at tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 5 Batam in the academic year 2022/2023. The researcher selected X Science 1 as a sample and totaled 44 students as the research object. The researcher used a quantitative method to find out the answer to the research problem. The design of this research used an experimental design with a one-group pre-test and post-test control design and gave four times for the treatments. This research used a writing test as the Instrument to collect the data. Based on the data analysis result, showed the null hypothesis (H0) and alternative hypothesis 2 (H2) were rejected and alternative hypothesis 1 (H1) was accepted. It could be seen from data calculated using paired sample t-test formula that the significance was 0.728 and distributed normally because 0.728 > 0.005 while the Sig. 2 tailed was 0.000 which means that there was the effect of using heroes Mobile Legends Bang-Bang (MLBB) on writing a legend story at tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 5 Batam because the Sig. 2 tailed 0.000 < 0.005. Based on the findings, researcher suggested to the teacher to use heroes Mobile Legends Bang-Bang (MLBB) for teaching writing a legend story because this material gave effect on students’ writing skills.

Abstract

This research was conducted with the objective of creating learning media for teaching writing skills to tenth-grade students at SMAN 5 Batam. The main focus was on designing a storyboard learning media that would enhance student’s motivation to learn writing, making the learning process more engaging and encouraging active participation, especially in writing recount texts. The researcher concentrated on the topic of recount texts for tenth-grade students. The research and development (R&D) approach was employed, utilizing the ADD model by Dick & Carry, which consisted of three stages: analyzing, designing, and development. Data were gathered through interviews and validation sheets. The storyboard teaching materials successfully met the validity criteria, with material validation scoring 82,2% and media validation scoring 80%. Consequently, the storyboard-based teaching materials were deemed suitable for implementation in the classroom to enhance students learning.

Abstract

The goal of this study was to create an electronic module that would provide an engaging learning tool for eighth-grade students which primarily focused on recount text. This study was carried out in SMPN 2 Tanjungpinang during the second semester of the academic year 2022/2023, specifically in class 8.1, which had 35 students. Additionally, the research and development approach used in this study was a 4D model that included three stages: define, design, and develop. In order to obtain the data, the researcher utilized questionnaires, including the validation questionnaire for experts and the practicality questionnaire for students. The data analysis revealed that the students’ practicality score was 85%, which was classified as “Very Practical,” and the material and media validation score was 98%, which was classified as “Very Valid.” These findings support the hypothesis that the product developed for this study was valid, practical, and eligible to be used in the learning process.

Abstract

This study aimed to developedpodcast for listening material for grade 10. The subject of this research was the tenth grade, which consisted of 22 students. The location of this research was in the MAN Tanjungpinang. The type of this research was development research with ADDIE model. The researcher focused on developing podcast for listening matrial that was suitable for students’ daily activity and their environment. There were five stages namely analysis, design, development, implementation and evaluation. The data obtained from students’ need questionnaires, expert validation questionnaire, and small group try out questionnaire. The results showed that the podcast validation results for students' listening material for class X were valid and did not need revisions. Podcasts were directly implemented to students. Based on the results of student implementation of the practicality test sheet, it was found that podcasts for listening material for grade 10 were very appropriate and practical.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was knowing the effect of using the chain writing method on students’ writing achievement in writing report text at SMPN 1 Bintan. This research used quasi-experimental design. The population of this research was first semester 9th grade students at SMPN 1 Bintan with 30 students from two classes as a sample, 15 students in class 9.A as the experimental class using the chain writing method and 15 students in class 9.B as the control class. using the expository method. The treatment was conducted by researcher in November 2022. Then it can be concluded that students' writing achievement towards report text are not good enough. The results of data analysis, known that the chain writing method was no more effectively used in learning to write report text for 9th grade at SMPN 1 Bintan. From the results of the calculation of the independent T-test test one-tailed it was known that t0 obtained was 0.13, while ttable value in the degree of significance of 0.05 one-tailed test was 1.70 (df = 28). Because 0,13 < 1,70 the data from this research showed that there was a significant difference in the results of the posttest comparison of the two classes. This proved that the chain writing method was an ineffective method for learning report text for 9th grade students at SMPN 1 Bintan in the 2022/2023 academic year

Abstract

The primary objective of this research study is to examine the implications of intensive listening techniques on language acquisition and comprehension skills. The Research examines different methods, resources, and technology applications supporting successful language acquisition. The theoretical framework includes Krashen's Input Hypothesis and the Comprehensible Output Hypothesis, emphasising the crucial importance of authentic language input. Various platforms, such as podcasts, YouTube, and ELA resources, are crucial for establishing captivating and immersive language environments. There is a strong emphasis on the responsible integration of AI and technology in education, focusing on ensuring fairness and transparency. Implementing metacognitive strategies, problem-solving techniques, and learner autonomy are fundamental to successful intensive listening practices. Additionally, the study recognises the impact of native languages on language acquisition and considers educators' diverse responsibilities in promoting oral proficiency. The Research has identified several promising areas for further investigation, including neurocognitive correlates, intercultural communication, motivation, and technology integration. The study provides practical insights that can assist educators, curriculum developers, and language learning programs in creating engaging and genuine listening activities that promote linguistic proficiency and effective communication.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to see how the buzz group technique affected students' speaking skills in hortatory exposition. The study's design was quasi-experimental, there are one group experimental and one group control class include pre-test, post-test and treatment. The population of this study was eleventh grade students, with 74 individuals drawn from two classrooms. In this study, the researcher used a speaking test as the instrument of this research. Data analysis found that buzz group technique has affected to the students’ speaking skill. This was discovered by data calculated using the samples T-test procedure. The statistics clearly showed that Sig. 2 tailed was 0.000. The sig. 2 tailed 0.000 > 0.05 indicates that the Buzz Group Technique had an affected students' speaking skills in hortatory exposition material at SMA Negeri 4 Tanjungpinang. The researcher proposes that teachers utilize the buzz group technique to teach speaking since it has a considerable affected on students' speaking skills based on the data.

Abstract

This research aimed to know what are English Language Teaching Strategies in Developmentally Appropriate Practice. developmentally appropriate practice was a learning activity that recognized that each student had different needs and abilities. In developmentally appropriate practice, students were provided with various choices in terms of learning materials, teaching methods, and assessment. The qualitative research was a research design for this research. The study was conducted in SMPN 1. The subject of the research was an English teacher of SMPN 1 Tanjungpinang. The researcher used a purposive sampling technique to select the subject. The researcher only chose an English teacher for the subject of the study because in the school, there was only one teacher implementing developmentally appropriate practice. The research used observation, interview, and documentation as instruments to collect data. English Language Teaching Strategies in Developmentally Appropriate Learning used by teachers were Video-assisted learning (VAL), Picture Stories, Context Clues, and Group-Work strategies.
