Abstract

This study finds out the opportunities and challenges in multi-grade teaching: experiences of primary school teachers in far-flung schools in San Marcelino, Zambales. The study made use of qualita-tive research adhering to the phenomenological methods and data were thematically analyzed. Results of the study showed that the challenges encountered by multigrade teachers in far-flung schools are difficulty in handling classroom and time management, failing to consider the diversity of learners, inadequacy in teaching multi-ple grades and experiencing burnout in teaching. Multigrade teachers overcome challenges encountered through teachers’ re-sourcefulness, understanding differences, teachers’ resiliency, teachers’ innovativeness, and support group system Students use reappraising and evading as their boredom-coping strategies in Social Studies discussions. The opportunities experienced by the multigrade teachers are enhancing the self-esteem of teachers, recognizing shared responsibility for facilitating student learning and increasing the teaching proficiency of teachers. An enhance-ment program was proposed. The study recommends that the De-partment of Education (DepEd) may conduct seminars for good practices in teaching multigrade classes. Multigrade teachers may use varied teaching strategies and innovative instructional mate-rials that will cater all learners’ needs and for effective students’ learning. Further studies may be conducted to validate the results of the study.

Abstract

Attaining high levels of learning outcomes has been the core of school management, operations, and teaching. Correspondingly, various programs, projects, and activities of the Department of Education (DepEd) aimed toward the recovery and enhancement of learning, and ultimately the holistic development of the youth have been implemented every academic year. Some of the key factors for pupils' learning and holistic development are the provision of a positive school climate and the leadership style of the school heads. Hence, this review paper looked into the existing literature for the given key variables and identified the research gap and future research perspectives. The findings showed that there is a significant relationship between idealized influence, inspirational motivation, and personal consideration. As assessed in all the domains of transformational practices of school heads as highly observed, meanwhile, intellectual stimulation does not significantly influence the school climate thus, much effort is required from the school heads to inspire and motivate the teachers to attain higher performance of the students. This paper hopes to contribute to the potential research undertakings in the locale and provide clarity about how transformational leadership impacts school climate which ultimately leads to positive learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study investigated the impact of school leaders' direct supervision, attitudes, and practices on teachers' performance in the post-pandemic era. This study used a quantitative method with a predictive design involving 350 permanent teachers from SDO San Pablo City's four (4) large public junior high schools for the school year 2022-2023. A survey questionnaire was used to assess the level of direct supervision provided by school heads in terms of lesson planning and delivery; the level of attitudes provided by school heads in terms of motivation, communication, respect, decision-making, and sensitivity; and the level of practices provided by school heads in terms of teachers' support during the transition period; meeting needs; maintaining communication contact and relationship; celebrating success; and maintaining quality. Using the mean and standard deviation, it was discovered that respondents' level of agreement to school heads' direct supervision in all instructional processes is very high; respondents' level of agreement to school heads' attitudes in terms of motivation, communication, and respect is also very high; respondents' level of agreement to school heads' practices in all sub-variables is also very high; and respondents' level of agreement to their performance is also very high. School leaders' direct supervision, attitudes, and practices are significantly related to teachers' performance. Likewise, teachers' performance significantly predicted school heads' practices in maintaining communication contact and relationship, as well as school heads' direct supervision in lesson planning As a result, it may be recommended that school leaders continue to direct the three (3) instructional processes to improve teaching, develop more positive attitudes to boost teacher morale, and maintain school practices, as teachers require more support in this post-pandemic era.

Abstract

Faculty members in higher education institutions are increasingly burdened by a growing workload, particularly non-teaching assignments or allied tasks. The time spent on workloads were observed to have increased in the past years. Hence, the researchers decided to undertake this study entitled,”Faculty Workload and Well-being at President Ramon Magsaysay State University: Impacts of Allied Tasks on Stress and Health,” during the academic year 2021-2022. A quantitative descriptive design was employed to evaluate the variables of the study. A researcher-made survey questionnaire was administered to forty-three faculty members using population sampling. Data were collected through online platform due to limited face to face interactions. A letter of consent was emailed to the three(3) Campus Directors of north campuses prior the online survey. Descriptive statistics such as percentage, weighted means, and Pearson Correlation was used in the treatment of data. The findings revealed that on average, faculty members spent approximately 29.54 hours on teaching tasks and 34.73 hours on allied tasks per week. This study revealed significant differences in the time spent on allied tasks across various demographic groups, such as age, gender, civil status, highest educational attainment, and length of service. Additionally, a significant relationship was found between the time spent on teaching and allied tasks and the extent of experienced stress, but not on personal life, mental health, or physical health. Based on these findings, it is recommended that the university administration implement strategies such as offering mental health support services and creating a more supportive work environment. Reallocating administrative responsibilities or hiring support staff is highly encouraged. Providing health breaks may also be implemented which could help address stress.

Abstract

This study focused on the positive impact of the Patikul Ex-tension Program of MSU-Sulu College of Agriculture on the enrolled students residing within the boundaries of Patikul Municipality. Specifically, the study assessed the impacts of the program in three areas: Socio-Cultural, Economic, and Envi-ronmental aspects. To gather the necessary data, the re-searchers used a self-devised structured survey questionnaire, which underwent a reliability test. The questionnaire consist-ed of two parts. The first part determined the profile of the respondents using the quantitative descriptive method of fre-quency distribution. The second part assessed the impact of the program through selected questions, with the data ana-lyzed using weighted means and inferential statistics. A one-way ANOVA was employed to examine the significant differ-ences in the responses across different respondent profiles. Results showed that most of the respondents were 25 years old or older, female, first-year students, and residents of Patikul, Sulu, aged 21 or above. In terms of impact, the Socio-Cultural aspect had a weighted mean of 4.58, interpreted as "Strongly Agree"; the Economic aspect had a weighted mean of 4.42, interpreted as "Agree"; and the Environmental aspect had a weighted mean of 4.46, interpreted as "Agree." Regard-ing significant differences, the responses on the Socio-Cultural, Economic, and Environmental impacts of the Patikul Exten-sion Program varied across the profiles, with the results being mostly significant according to the one-way ANOVA test.Based on these findings, the researchers recommend the con-tinuous development of the program through faculty devel-opment, additional facilities, and laboratory improvements, as well as conducting further studies on the impact of faculty de-velopment on the stakeholders of the institution.

Abstract

The purpose of the study is to help the Meranaw people to verify the veracity that behind their colorful, rich and beautiful culture, there is Mamis which symbolizes the royalty and hospitability of every Meranaw. In which every Meranaw occasions, engagements, merrymaking, and homecoming of people who had gone to Hajj, and during the two religious feasts, Eid’l Adha and Eid'l Fitr there should be a serving of sweet desserts together with the main course or dish. This study is anchored by various theories to strengthen the analysis. First is the Foodways Theory (Douglas, 1984) which analyzes food's role in shaping cultural identity and community, and the second one is the Culinary Cultural Heritage (Henderson, 2009) which highlights food's significance in preserv-ing cultural traditions. In determining the nature and the purpose of the study, the researchers used two ways of gathering data, Random Sampling method and Purposive Sampling method through the medium of self - made validated survey questionnaire and in – depth interview with the self-made guide questions. The study came up to conclude that the level of awareness among the respondents were on positive side result since majority of the re-spondents have tasted or seen these identified delicacies of the Meranaw despite the influences of the multi diversified colonial cuisine which indicates the preservation still remains today to some extent. Moreover, this study concludes that Mamis delicacy makes it more unique from other culture especially the ceremoni-als and rituals that are associated with it. These delicacies are commonly served during Meranao festivities in authentic Pagana. The method of preparation involved in making mamis has been transmitted from generation to generation which shape the char-acters and identity of Meranaws.
