Abstract

This study assessed the carbon stock at the Nueva Vizcaya State Uni-versity Agricultural Innovation Center in Singian Hills, Tuao South, Bagabag, Nueva Vizcaya. The study covered a 100% inventory of trees with a diameter at breast height of at least 10 centimeters and above. Brown’s formula was used to compute the carbon stock of the species. Trees with a diameter at breast height of less than 70 cm and greater than 70 cm were computed separately. A total of 383 trees with 39 tree species were found in the area. It was found that a total of 910,460.10 kilograms was being sequestered equivalent to 564, 485.26 kilogram of carbon stock. The most abundant and recorded as the largest in terms of diameter breast height in the area is the Rain tree (Samanea saman) followed by Gmelina (Gmelina arborea) and Mangga (Mangifera indica). The rain tree that has the largest diameter breast height has a record of 119 cm with an aboveground biomass of 16,107.45 kg and a carbon stock of 9,986.62 kg. The study concludes that increasing tree volume leads to greater carbon dioxide seques-tration, emphasizing the importance of tree planting and forest con-servation for climate change mitigation and addressing global warm-ing.

Abstract

This literature review thoroughly examines the challenges asso-ciated with diverse curriculum designs across various educational contexts worldwide. The study identifies key constraints and elabo-rates on how design-based curricula effectively implement diverse educational approaches. The global challenges of diverse curriculum designs arise from sociocultural disparities, fragmented policies, and unequal distribution of resources. Research indicates that rigid national standards often conflict with local educational needs, limit-ing inclusivity and adaptability. Additionally, the review explores how these challenges impact educational outcomes and curricula, highlighting those global benchmarks may marginalize indigenous knowledge systems and overlook the unique needs of refugee stu-dents. The findings emphasize the necessity for adaptive strategies and context-sensitive approaches to address these challenges and promote inclusive educational practices. Curriculum design should balance global competencies with local relevance. This review con-tributes to the broader discussion on global education reform by providing insights for policymakers, educators, and researchers who aim to enhance curricular diversity and tackle the barriers that hinder effective integration. Addressing these challenges is essential for fostering equitable education, promoting cultural preservation, and preparing students for an interconnected world.

Abstract

This study investigates the reading difficulties encountered by Grade One learners in District 1 of the Schools Division of Bago City for the school year 2023-2024 and examines their impact on academic per-formance. Utilizing a descriptive-correlational research design, the study assessed 231 Grade One learners from five elementary schools using a modified Reading Difficulty Checklist. Findings indicate that learners experience moderate difficulties across five key areas of reading: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and com-prehension, with comprehension posing the greatest challenge. The study also reveals that demographic factors such as age, sex, parents’ educational attainment, and family income significantly influence reading proficiency. Additionally, a strong correlation was found be-tween reading difficulties and academic performance, highlighting the need for targeted intervention programs. Based on the results, an in-tervention plan is proposed to enhance reading skills and improve academic outcomes for young learners.

Abstract

This systematic review explores how crowdfunding impacts en-trepreneurial processes, business sustainability, and venture growth. By analyzing 19 SCOPUS-indexed studies, this review iden-tifies crowdfunding’s financial and non-financial benefits, includ-ing enhanced consumer insight, market exposure, and co-creation opportunities. Crowdfunding redefines stakeholder roles, foster-ing participatory ecosystems that enable innovation, strategic scaling, and resilience. Key findings emphasize the importance of stakeholder engagement and market validation while highlighting gaps in understanding long-term sustainability, cultural influences, and evolving backer-venture dynamics. Abstract

Since the concept of smart city came into existence about a decade ago, it certainly has taken a different meaning from basic infra-structure management to integrating advanced technologies in the form of 5G, IoT, and AI. This paper investigates how the definition of smart cities is evolving, its relevance to the Philippine construc-tion industry, estate development, and how it navigates through the challenges and opportunities of integrating it into the society. The research utilized a meta-analysis research design of peer-reviewed journals, government reports, and other articles pub-lished from year 2000 to 2024. The result of the study showed that building or integrating a smart city is beneficial for a country expe-riencing rapid economic development. Nonetheless, the Philip-pines, even if it is considered as one of the fastest-urbanizing countries with visionary and competent infrastructure developers among the countries in Southeast Asia, the nation still faces signif-icant challenges such as outdated land planning, government frag-mentation, and inefficient resource management. The strategic and sufficient education about what a smart city is would lead to a high probability that concerned industries and institutions will find ways to integrate smart city principles in their school com-munities, which will help contribute to training and producing citi-zens who advocate for a country with smart city systems and technologies. This study emphasized the necessity of designing high quality educational initiatives, policy developments, and facil-itating public-private collaborations where it would promote sus-tainable urban development and eventual national growth in the Philippine’s construction industry.

Abstract

The study aimed to enhance criminology students’ mathematics problem-solving abilities using a criminology-based word problem strategy (CBWPS) and to explore their experiences and coping mech-anisms with this approach. Employing a mixed-method explanatory sequential design, the quantitative phase utilized a quasi-experimental one-group pretest-posttest framework with 38 partici-pants, while the qualitative phase involved phenomenological in-depth interviews with 10 students. Results revealed a significant im-provement in students' problem-solving skills, with a marked in-crease in post-test scores compared to pre-test results (mean gain: 8.11, p<0.05). The intervention fostered critical thinking and en-gagement by contextualizing mathematical concepts in criminology scenarios, making learning more relevant. However, students faced challenges such as unfamiliar terminologies and difficulties with complex calculations. They coped by analyzing problems carefully and drawing motivation from their aspirations. The study recommends training mathematics educators in implementing CBWPS and inte-grating such strategies into criminology curricula to enhance analyti-cal skills and professional preparedness.

Abstract

This research investigated the struggles faced by educators in implementing Authentic Assessment at Private Catholic Educa-tional Institutes within the Diocese of Iba during the 2022-2023 school year, specifically in the 3rd Quarter period. A descriptive research method using a survey questionnaire was employed to gather data from 101 Social Studies teachers. The findings indi-cated that the majority of respondents were female, single, col-lege-educated, and had been teaching for over five years. The respondents expressed confidence in their knowledge of imple-menting Authentic Assessment during the COVID-19 pandemic. Visual and kinesthetic methods were frequently used, with re-sponses indicating these were employed "often," while verbal and written methods were used "sometimes." The teachers disa-greed on the challenges they faced in implementing Authentic Assessment. No significant differences were found in the level of awareness on Authentic Assessment based on demographic var-iables such as sex, civil status, highest educational attainment, or years of teaching. However, there were significant differences in the frequency of using various assessment methods, particularly between visual, verbal, kinesthetic, and written methods. The study also highlighted significant differences in the challenges experienced based on the highest educational attainment. The researcher proposed an intervention program to address these challenges, recommending strategies such as improved report preparation, collaboration with parents and local government units, the provision of hands-on activities for students, and teacher workshops for mastery of assessment techniques. Fu-ture research is encouraged to replicate the study for a deeper and broader understanding of the challenges and practices relat-ed to Authentic Assessment.

Abstract

This article aims to analyze the regional disparities of social and de-mographic indicators in Morocco by conducting a comparative carto-graphic study between the 2014 and 2024 censuses. Using data from the General Population and Housing Census (RGPH) and reports from the High Commission for Planning, combined with Geographic Infor-mation Systems (GIS), this research highlights significant spatial and temporal changes across various regions. Key indicators analyzed include population density, unemployment rates, urbanization levels, literacy rates, and economic activity. The results reveal stark regional disparities, with Casablanca-Settat and Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima maintaining high population density and urbanization growth, while rural regions like Drâa-Tafilalet and Béni Mellal-Khénifra continue to face persistent challenges, such as high unemployment and illiteracy rates. Notably, the southern regions of Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra and Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab have shown remarkable improvements in urbanization and economic activity due to targeted government-led development projects.Quantitatively, the study identifies a 5.4% national increase in ur-banization rates over the past decade, accompanied by a 7% reduc-tion in national illiteracy rates. However, unemployment remains a critical issue, with some regions experiencing only marginal im-provements. The ARIMA model projections indicate further urbaniza-tion by 2030, with potential risks of growing disparities if regional development policies are not effectively implemented. These findings underscore the urgent need for targeted policies aimed at promoting regional equity by investing in education, enhancing job opportuni-ties in rural areas, and fostering balanced urban growth. The study emphasizes the importance of integrating GIS-based spatial analysis into policy-making to ensure sustainable and inclusive development.

Abstract

This study evaluated the effectiveness of using Venn Diagrams and the Fishbone Technique in enhancing the performance level of Grade VI students in Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao (ESP) during the school year 2023-2024. Conducted at Sto. Tomas Elementary School, Subic, Zambales, the research involved 25 Grade VI students (12 males and 13 females) as respondents. The study aimed to determine the students' performance levels before and after the implementation of these tools and to identify observable changes in their performance. Data were gathered through pre-tests, post-tests, and group activities, which were analyzed using frequency distribution, scoring rubrics, and a comparison of means and standard deviations. Results revealed that the students' performance was average before using the tools but significantly improved to an excellent level after their implementation. The Venn Diagram and Fishbone Technique facilitated deeper understanding and meaningful learning among students, confirming their effectiveness in ESP lessons. The findings highlighted the importance of systematic presentation and alignment of teaching tools with learning competencies. Further research is recommended to explore the broader applicability of these techniques in other subject areas.

Abstract

Traffic signs are vital for ensuring motorists safety on the road, but their effectiveness relies on drivers comprehending their meaning and demonstrating the appropriate actions. This study investigated the traffic sign comprehension of 324 Aeta respondents using a three-part questionnaire: a survey on respondents’ agreement with traffic sign meanings and actions, a matching test to identify traffic sign names, both using convenience sampling, and an interview us-ing purposive sampling. The researcher utilized a convergent paral-lel mixed method design, examining quantitative data with descrip-tive statistics and qualitative data with thematic analysis. The key findings indicate that the overall traffic sign comprehension mean score of the respondents was 3.35, interpreted as “Average,” sug-gesting a general understanding of traffic signs with room for im-provement in specific areas. The data also reveals that the most cor-rectly identified signs in the matching test were those reinforced with both verbal and non-verbal elements and those frequently en-countered, such as the informative sign “Slow Vehicles Use Right Lane” (49.4 %), the warning sign “Slippery When Wet” (47.8%), the regulatory sign “Stop Sign” (66.0%) and the road marking “Single Solid Yellow Line” (46.6%). Most Aeta motorists began driving at a young age without formal training, mostly learning through obser-vations and guidance from family and relatives, leading to misun-derstandings of traffic signs. Interviews highlighted that financial difficulties, lack of resources, and illiteracy prevent many Aeta mo-torists from obtaining driver’s licenses and vehicle registrations. Additionally, they often face prejudice and discrimination, being unfairly blamed for motor vehicle accidents. These findings empha-size the importance of specialized educational initiatives and cul-turally appropriate driving instruction to promote traffic sign litera-cy among Aeta motorists. Proposed initiatives include the develop-ment of simple, engaging materials, such as a tri-fold brochure con-taining locally translated traffic sign names, explanations of Kapampangan language, and pictures. Other rec-ommendations include free or subsidized driver education courses and improved traffic signs combining verbal and non-verbal ele-ments to enhance comprehension.
