Abstract

One of the three global goals set by states is to eradicate poverty and ensure economic and social progress for all. Young people in many low- and middle-income countries face exceptional challenges in finding their place in a globalizing economy. Integrating hundreds of millions of young people into the labor market is one of the greatest global development challenges for decades to come. Rural populations all over the world are aging. The role of young people as drivers of change in agricultural and food systems and their place in rural labor markets is receiving increasing attention at the global level, especially as a result of increased global migration flows. How can this problem be transformed into a “youth” driving force for rural development? This paper argues for leveraging growing demand for agricultural products and recent advances in the agricultural sector to expand youth employment opportunities and promote attractive decent jobs, especially green jobs, in rural areas. The paper analyses the situation in our daily life, in which the proportion of the worldwide countries are dealing with the problem related to the economic development and social welfare in rural areas. The paper includes the following issues such as the attractiveness and creation of opportunities for youth and consideration of them as the main partners in rural areas play a crucial role nowadays. Moreover, green jobs as well are effective and efficient in enhancement of both productivity and sustainability of agricultural sphere. The question is how to transform this challenge into an opportunity and harness the energy of young people as a driving force for development. The role of young people as drivers of change in agro-food systems and their place in rural labor markets is receiving increasing attention at the global level, especially as a result of increased global migration flows. A top priority for developed and developing countries is to systematically mainstream youth rural decent employment issues into programs and investment projects in agriculture, value chains, agro-industry development, rural transformation, and sustainable food systems. This paper argues for expanding employment opportunities for youth through the creation of decent jobs, especially green jobs, in rural areas.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic that has hit various parts of the world, including Indonesia, has had an impact on society. One of the layers of society that has experienced this impact is students. With the large-scale social restrictions, Indonesian students do a lot of activities at home. Many students become concerned with themselves, but there are also students who feel bored because of low social interaction which in turn causes high food consumption and sedentary behaviour at home. The objective of this study to determine changes in body weight, food consumption and lifestyle in Indonesian students. The design of this study was cross sectional, with descriptive analysis conducted on 1185 students in Indonesia. The results of the study stated that the pandemic had an impact on Indonesian students. During the pandemic as many as 67.1% of students experienced changes in the size of their BB. Most of the students experienced moderate stress (77.1%), and bad sedentary behaviour by 63.4%. However, diet and exercise habits have changed for the better as much as 52.6% and 63.7%, respectively. Indonesian students need to pay more attention to changes in body weight and lifestyle during the pandemic so as not to have a negative impact on health and nutritional status.

Abstract

The research aimed to determine the Predictors Affecting the Level of Work Satisfaction in Relation to the Work Performance Among Secondary School Teachers in the Division of Zambales During SY 20120-2021. The descriptive research design were used with survey questionnaire as the data gathering.The study was limited on predictors affecting the level of work performance as to teaching hours, salary/remuneration, school officials/administrators, peer/colleagues, student factor, work environment and community supports predictors respectively. The respondents of the study were Secondary Teachers in the Division of Zambales. The findings revealed that the teacher-respondent is a typical female in her early adulthood, married, Roman Catholic, Mathematics major, Teacher 1, BS degree with masteral units of education and had been teaching for almost a decade. The teacher-respondent agreed on the predictors affecting the level of work performance as to teaching hours, salary/remuneration, school officials/administrators, peer/colleagues, student factor, work environment factor and community support. The teachers were rated “Very Satisfactory” on their level of work performance. There was a significant difference on the assessment towards salary/remuneration when grouped according to civil status, religion and highest educational attainment; on school officials/administrators when grouped according to position/designation. There was significant difference on the assessment of the teacher-respondents towards predictors affecting the level of work satisfaction. There was no significant relationship between the work satisfaction predictors and the level of work performance as reflected in the IPCRF performance rating.

Abstract

Proper implementation of Solid Waste Management (SWM) is an essential part for the protection of the residents’ health, safety and environmental quality. SWM methods have been adapted by many residential subdivisions into a more practical and effective option to establish sustainability based on the reduce, reuse, and recycle principles. This study aims to contribute a solution to the challenging operation of solid waste management in Modena Mactan subdivision (1) to comprehensively describe the homeowner’s status classification and demographic characteristics, (2) to evaluate volume of waste produced and recycled waste revenue collected, (3) to recognize homeowner’s perception on the current waste management status, and (4) to showcase feasible approaches for sustainable waste management program. The study applied the descriptive research design and was carried out to 93 homeowners who went through the (house-to-house) paper-pencil-questionnaire survey. Results showed that the subdivision produced an average of 33 tons or 16.974 kilograms of solid waste per household per month, and generated an amount of 1,369 PHP or 27.41 USD revenue from the segregated recyclable waste collected from August 1-28, 2021. Moreover, about 87% of the respondents found convenient and sought to change in paperless system. Conclusively, it was revealed that 74% of the respondents found the recycling incentive scheme more inclusive as a feasible approach for waste management strategy to sustain the solid waste management program in Modena Mactan subdivision, Basak, Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu, Philippines.

Abstract

Ethnocentrism is the belief that one’s own culture is centrally important and is superior to other cultures, and influences how people would communicate with others from different cultural backgrounds in a multicultural society. This study describes the perceptions of criminology faculty and students towards reducing ethnocentrism through multiculturalism and social learning. This quantitative descriptive research determined the perceptions of 50 purposively selected faculty member and 125 criminology students from selected universities in Metro Manila towards reducing ethnocentrism through multiculturalism and social learning. The researcher-developed questionnaire was administered online using Google Form. Data privacy and confidentiality were considered during the conduct of the entire study. Data were analysed using frequency and percentage distribution, mean, and rank. The majority of the respondents belong to the age group of 20 and younger. The respondents were dominated by males, and were singles. The majority of student respondents were in the first year. The majority of faculty respondents have master’s degree and 1- 10 years of teaching experience, and were regular/permanent employees. In terms of monthly gross income, 25 or 50% of faculty respondents earn P 30,000- 39,999.00. The majority of the faculty and criminology students believed that ethnocentrism can be reduced through multiculturalism and social learning, such that, social learning can be activated through self-awareness to tolerating differences to appreciating the benefits of differences. As gleaned from the study, ethnocentrism can be reduced by modeling an open-minded and accepting organizational climate amidst cultural diversity and complimenting social learning in developing social intelligence, promoting mutual respect, and active listening that leads to intercultural collaboration in this culturally diverse police force and societies.

Abstract

The digitalization of the world community and the advent of Covid-19 pandemic have created impact to the lives of the teachers and other stakeholders. This study provide knowledge on the teachers in terms of, pedagogical, content and technological knowledge in using technology as means of instruction and learning of the students. Findings have showed that teachers were knowledgeable in terms of technology as means of their pedagogical application, content matters and best practices in technology integration. Data further implied that teachers were knowledgeable with tech-ed either online or in the classroom settings. However, data suggests that there were some technical issues were perceived in technology integration.

Abstract

The study determined the effectiveness of blended learning modules as correlates to students' self-efficacy among students in the Alternative Learning Systems in Tagum, Davao del Norte during the second quarter of 2021. Findings will serve as bases for a proposed action plan. The researcher utilized quantitative, descriptive-correlational and predictive designs among 211 students in the Alternative Learning System in different centers in the Central Cluster in Tagum, Davao del Norte selected through random sampling. The researcher used adapted-and-modified questionnaires from the following: "Evaluating the Quality, Usability, and Potential Effectiveness of Online Learning Modules: A Case Study of Teaching with Technology Grant Recipients at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville" from Goode (2003) and “Self-Efficacy as an Engaged Learner” from Schunk and Mullen (2017). The researcher utilized mean and standard deviation, Pearson-r, and linear regression for data treatment. The effectiveness of blended learning module is high. Moreover, the student’s self-efficacy is also high. Both are manifested most of the time. There is a significant relationship between effectiveness of blended learning and student’s self-efficacy. Student’s self-efficacy is influenced on the following domains of effectiveness of blended learning modules: quality of content, usability, and potential tool for effective learning. The researcher recommends seminar and training for teachers particularly on creating and enhancing contents in the blended learning modality to improve the student’s self-efficacy.

Abstract

The tourism industry is one of the most forward-looking and dynamic in the world. It is critical to plan and grow tourism in a way that balances the needs of the environment, the economy, and society as a whole. Based on the findings it can be noted that the tourism industry cannot sustain itself without the help of community and local government units, which were mentioned in the interpretations of sustainable tourism by many local citizens and barangay officials. Hence, ensuring the sustainability of tourism development implies keeping high level of awareness and strong commitment among stakeholders regarding crucial issues like quality assurance and sustainable practices. The local government may support the development of tourism by allotting adequate budget that can be used for promotion and maintenance of the tourist destination. The participation of the local residents in the implementation of the tourism development plan may be solicited as with their local government.

Abstract

The multicultural and diversity management (MDM) encompasses acceptance and respect, recognition and valuing of individual differences of the university stakeholders. This study determined the perceptions of the academic managers/ leaders towards multicultural and diversity management in a higher education institutions. This quantitative descriptive research determined the perceptions of 100 purposively selected academic managers/ leaders of selected higher education institutions in the Philippines. The researcher-designed questionnaire was administered online using Google Form. Data were analysed using frequency, percentage distribution, mean, and rank. The majority of the respondents belonged to the age group of 41- 50 years old. The respondents were dominated by males and were single. In terms of highest educational attainment, the majority of the respondents have a master’s degree with 1- 10 years of work experience. The majority of the respondents were Coordinators/Program Chairs who were Regular/Permanent employees. On the basis of the findings of the study, it can be gleaned that the majority of the respondents believed that multiculturalism and diversity management (MDM) in higher education institutions should be integrated with the human resources programs to improve the lenses of equality in the universities and colleges as a workplace. Most of them believe that the MDM program prepares employees for higher diversity in their team, as such; it helps in welcoming recruits with diverse backgrounds into the academic community and promotes a positive organizational culture. Respondents also believed that multicultural and diversity management in Higher Education Institution is one of the best ways that university employees and students can become accustomed to other cultures, nonjudgmental, respectful, and accepting of differences, receptive to different ways of thinking.

Abstract

This research aimed to identify the resonance of the tagline on the students of Ignacio B. Villamor Senior High School. The researchers utilized the case study as the method of the study. The participants of the study are students-at-risk of dropping out, SSG students, and honor students in second quarter of S.Y. 2020-2021. There are 108 students who became the participants of the study. To gather data, the researchers used purposive sampling in the study. It is a non-probability sampling. The researcher identified common codes, categories, and themes. Aside from these, the researchers included statements of the participants of the study; but, their names are not identified to maintain confidentiality. The researchers proposed an organizational action plan based on themes emerged from the study.
