Abstract

This study investigates how bilingual students employ English syntax in writing through the lens of code-switching. A bibliometric analysis was conducted using Scopus-indexed articles from 2013 to 2023, employing tools like VOSviewer and NVivo to map trends and themes. Results indicate that code-switching enhances grammatical development by fostering metalinguistic awareness, cognitive flexibility, and rhetorical strategy, though concerns remain about its impact on adherence to standard grammar norms in academic writing. Four major thematic clusters were identified: translanguaging pedagogy, biliteracy development, sociocultural identity, and discourse-based grammar instruction. The findings can inform educators and curriculum developers on the syntactic challenges and patterns in bilingual writing and act upon it through authorships of school’s language teaching policies. This is the first bibliometric study to systematically examine the intersection of code-switching and English grammar in the academic writing of bilingual students, offering both theoretical and pedagogical contributions to multilingual education.

Abstract

Purpose – This study examines the influence of social media on students' oral communication skills and linguistic development in English language learning, identifying key research trends and foundational works. Design/methodology/approach – A bibliometric analysis was conducted using 201 peer-reviewed documents from the Scopus database (2010–2025). This dataset reflects influential studies, ensuring high-quality research contributions to technology-enhanced language education. VOS viewer was used to create co-authorship, co-citation, and keyword co-occurrence maps, applying thresholds for citation counts and keyword frequencies to focus on high-impact studies. Findings – The analysis shows growing interest in social media as a tool for enhancing oral proficiency and linguistic competence, with core themes including learner autonomy, digital engagement, language anxiety, and AI-driven tools. Foundational theories like Krashen’s Input Hypothesis and Vygotsky’s Sociocultural Theory were frequently cited, highlighting their relevance in digital language education. Practical implications – The findings suggest that social media can enhance formal education by providing immersive environments for practicing oral communication. Educators are encouraged to integrate social media into curricula to boost motivation, reduce anxiety, and promote real-world language use. Originality/value – This study provides a novel bibliometric synthesis of literature on social media and language development, mapping its intellectual structure and identifying emerging research areas, thus contributing to the discourse on technology-enhanced language education.

Abstract

This qualitative needs assessment explores the current practices, challenges, and developmental needs of the choirs serving at an Archdiocesan Shrine in Tacloban City. Utilizing a qualitative descriptive design, data were gathered through interviews and focus group discussions with ten purposively selected participants from choir members, coordinators, and conductors. Thematic analysis revealed five major themes: current musical practices, training and skill development needs, resource limitations, coordination and leadership, and spiritual and community growth. Findings indicate that while choirs exhibit strong commitment and structured rehearsal routines, they face significant gaps in formal training, access to musical resources, and leadership support. Participants also emphasized the choir’s role as a spiritual community and expressed a desire for deeper liturgical formation and pastoral guidance. These findings suggest the need for multidimensional interventions, including capacity-building initiatives, resource allocation, leadership development, and spiritual enrichment. The study further recommends the implementation of an extension project by the Leyte Normal University Bachelor of Music in Music Education, offering workshops and mentorship to address the identified needs. Strengthening the choir ministry is seen as essential not only for improving liturgical music quality but also for enhancing the spiritual vitality of the parish community.

Abstract

Nursing as a caring profession is constantly evolving as the call for international Healthcare demands are consequently in progress. The study aimed to determine how professional nurses are keeping up with Outcomes-Based Education trends in nursing education and practice. The study employed Exploratory Sequential Mixed Methods Design comprising of five phases namely: 1) Integrative Literature Review; 2) PICO: Writing the Integrative Review; 3) Tool Development and Testing – Quantitative; 4) Framework Development; 5) Functionality Evaluation from Expert Interviews – Qualitative. Emergent themes based on reviewed related literature were: 1) Core of Nursing; 2) Quality Patient Care; 3) Professional Transfiguration; 4) Excellence in Health Care. J.O.R.-O.B.E. Measurement Tool was developed and pilot-tested with 0.80 to 0.92 acceptability level. Respondents were selected by purposive sampling. Results revealed that professional nurses who graduated under OBE curriculum were very satisfactorily keeping up with overall mean of 4.32, with a provision on research engagement and community-based staff development programs. Utilizing T-test statistical tool, data shown  insignificant differences in the average performance of nurses as perceived by charge nurses, head nurses, nurse supervisors and staff nurses with a p-value of 0.368 . Moreover, the developed J.O.R.-O.B.E. framework was evaluated by the chief nurses as an Excellent, Effective, and Highly Recommended.The findings of the study shed significant implications towards nursing profession. Utilization of J.O.R.-O.B.E. Measurement Tool and J.O.R.-O.B.E. Framework can serve to support the nursing workforce, for institutions to achieve excellent health care and cope up with global demands.

Abstract

In today’s digital age, false information poses a significant threat to adolescents’ cognitive and social development. This study investigates how personal experience influences the relationship between awareness of false information, perceived reliability, and the psycho-social development of Grade 12 students. Employing a mixed-methods approach, the research integrates quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews to evaluate students’ awareness of misinformation, their personal encounters with it, and their perceptions of source credibility. Results show that personal experience with misinformation significantly shapes students’ perceptions of reliability. Those who have encountered false information—either directly or indirectly—tend to exhibit heightened awareness and skepticism. This critical awareness helps them process content more carefully, enabling them to distinguish credible sources from unreliable ones. Quantitative findings reveal that these students are more adept at identifying and questioning misinformation, reducing its negative impact. Qualitative insights further emphasize the psycho-social benefits of such awareness. Students experienced in handling misinformation demonstrate stronger critical thinking skills, increased emotional resilience, and improved social competence, including better communication and interpersonal relationships. The study underscores the value of integrating real-world experiences with misinformation into educational curricula. By embedding critical media literacy and reflective engagement with false information into classroom activities, educators can better prepare students to navigate the complex information landscape. These interventions not only support students’ academic growth but also enhance their emotional and social development, contributing to the cultivation of a more informed, resilient, and socially capable generation.

Abstract

Physical education (PE) plays a vital role in school life as it promotes the overall development of students by addressing their emotional, social, and psychological needs along with students’ physical fitness. It is critical for Senior High School students in managing social pressures, academic expectations, and the transition to adulthood. This applies that the PERMA model, which emphasizes positive emotions, engagement, relationships, meaning, and accomplishment, explore the use in teaching Physical Education (PE) towards the holistic development such as social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and lifelong values of St. Joseph Academy of Sariaya, Quezon Grade 11 Senior High School students. A quantitative correlational research design was used to explore the relationship of PERMA in PE and the students’ holistic development. It was found that students are generally viewing themselves as functioning at a “normal” level across all PERMA components of well-being. All the five components of PERMA were identified as significant correlates of all five domains of students' holistic development, and so as the Meaning and Accomplishment component, shown as the strongest correlation among the components of PERMA model. Therefore, the researchers recommend that the Senior High School Physical Education curriculum may incorporate the PERMA model and may be more focused on integrating Meaning and Accomplishment as aspects of holistic development.

Abstract

This study aimed to explore how social media and social platforms influenced the mainstreaming of gay vernacular and its impact on cultural expression and identity. This qualitative research paper utilized a phenomenological approach to know the experiences and perspectives of both the heterosexual and homosexual participants in the municipality in region 3. Through thematic analysis of focus group discussions, the findings revealed that social media platforms have significantly contributed to the normalization and acceptance of gay language. Along with the growing acceptance within the gay community, several issues also arose, such as misinterpretation and cultural appropriation.  The challenges highlighted the need to further study and understand the gay language, as well as the importance of cultural sensitivity in using it. Despite these challenges, the integration of gay vernacular into everyday language enhanced the visibility and acceptance of LGBTQ+ identities. The findings of this study enabled the researchers to create a community language-based framework or the ACCLA Framework. Researchers can use this framework to further strengthen their study. This phenomenon underscored the relationship between language, culture, and identity. This research has served as evidence of the transformative power of language and its ability to promote inclusivity and foster understanding within the community.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate science literacy among the Bachelor of Elementary students at Osias Colleges Inc. The study employed a descriptive research design to describe science literacy among 50 students of Bachelor of Elementary Education. Science literacy was evaluated using indicators namely: recognizing scientific questions, identifying evidence, drawing conclusions, communicating conclusions, and demonstrating an understanding of scientific concepts. The results showed that the science literacy level of the students is described as “beginning”. In this regard, strategies and activities are proposed for each of the five science literacy indicators. Since the science literacy level of the BEED students is described as “beginning”, it is recommended that the College of Education should provide an entrance examination to first-year students particularly in the field of science education. Additionally, teachers should incorporate technology in learning to assist students who are struggling with science literacy and provide extra resources to help them improve their understanding of scientific concepts. The proposed strategies and activity cards may be implemented to raise the students science literacy level.

Abstract

This study examines the remittance method preferences of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) amid growing digitalization in financial services. It explores usage patterns, country-level differences, and factors influencing the adoption of digital versus traditional remittance channels. Employing a descriptive-comparative design, the study analyzed responses from 400 OFWs across five global regions, gathered through online surveys and community networks. Chi-square tests of independence assessed associations between remittance preferences, countries of employment, and regional groupings. Results revealed significant differences across countries. OFWs in the United States and the United Arab Emirates exhibited high digital adoption (65.2% and 69.8%, respectively), citing convenience and cost-efficiency as key motivators. Conversely, OFWs in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Singapore preferred traditional remittance centers due to trust and technological limitations. A significant association was found between country and remittance method, χ²(17, N = 400) = 78.24, p < .001, while regional differences between Asia and North America were not statistically significant, χ²(1, N = 337) = 1.33, p = .25. These findings underscore the need for user-centered financial technologies that are both inclusive and responsive to OFWs’ diverse socioeconomic contexts and digital competencies.

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the perceived fitness benefits and competitive engagement of aerobic gymnastics and conventional physical education (PE) exercises. A total of 90 students were selected through convenience sampling from the school where the research was conducted. The participants were randomly assigned to two equal groups: one group participated in an eight-week aerobic gymnastics program, while the other engaged in conventional PE exercises. A quasi-experimental non-equivalent control group design was utilized to achieve the study’s objectives, enabling a comparative analysis of the two interventions in a controlled environment. Data collection involved a teacher-made questionnaire based on a 4-point Likert scale, which comprised five statements under each subcategory to measure students' fitness levels and engagement. This tool provided a clear visual representation of the data. Participants engaged in distinct activity sets according to their assigned intervention: aerobic gymnastics or conventional PE exercises. For data analysis, both descriptive statistics (means and standard deviation) and inferential statistics (dependent and independent t-tests) were employed to assess changes within and between groups. The findings revealed that participation in both aerobic gymnastics and conventional PE exercises had resulted in significant improvements in students’ physical fitness and competitive engagement.
