Abstract

Education aims to create equality and respect through its components. One of those components is the learning delivery of any subject matter wherein language is mainly utilized. The study aimed to determine the usage of the gender sensitive language in teaching basic education at Don Honorio Ventura State University. It specifically sought to answer on the level of familiarity of the teachers on the gender-fair language; the frequency on the teacher’s usage of the gender-fair language; the common gender-fair terminologies used in motivation, discussion, performance tasks, assessments, and assignments; and the difficulties that the teachers encountered in using gender-fair language. The study used sequential explanatory type of research. It used questionnaires and interviews in gathering data. There are 65 participants who answered the survey and 11 of them participated in the focal group discussion. Based on the findings, the teachers are familiar with the gender-fair language but they sometimes use them in various areas of teaching such as in motivation, discussion, performance task, assessment, and assignment due to the topic pertinence and student ability. With those findings, the conduct of wide dissemination through capability building on the use of gender-fair language is still needed.

Abstract

The study was focused on assessing the consumers’ impulse buying behaviors as to the relationship to visual merchandising. According to Foroughi et al. (2013), one of the many tactics that companies do practice includes encouraging customers to buy impulsively. Because of this theory and visual merchandising, the researcher was able to determine consumers’ impulsive buying behavior concerning visual merchandising. In this study, 384 mall shoppers were selected as the population sample from the three selected Malls in Pampanga. The collected data were analyzed through frequency, mean, Likert scale, Pearson correlation, and Chi-square to test respondents’ profile with their impulse buying behavior, respondents’ profile and their assessment of visual merchandising, and respondents’ impulse buying behavior and their assessment of visual merchandising. Consumer impulse buying behavior has a significant relationship with the window display. According to Bhatti and Latif (2013), said that when the consumers visualize the products which were displayed attracts the customers and arouses their urge to do impulse buying. Visual merchandising including window display, in-store display, floor merchandising, and promotional signage make a significant effect on stimulating the consumers’ impulse buying behavior. For future researchers, further studies may be used, like for instance introducing other variable/s in assessing consumers’ buying impulsiveness not only limited to visual merchandising per se but also identifying a specific product.

Abstract

Comprehension is the primary objective reading, which promotes cognizance in all disciplines and so improves the teaching-learning process. The objective of this research was to see how SQ3R affected the reading comprehension of Grade 11 students at the Palompon Institute of Technology. The pretest-posttest control group design was employed in this research. Sixty Students randomly assigned to either of the groups. To gather the data, a reading comprehension test was used. It was treated using the mean and t-tests for dependent and independent samples. The following findings were revealed: 1) The initial reading comprehension of the SQ3R was “fair to good” while the conventional reading strategy was also “fair to good.” 2) The students’ initial reading comprehension was of the same level; 3)The final reading comprehension of the SQ3R was better than the conventional reading strategy ; 4) A significant difference was found between the initial and final reading comprehension of the students exposed to the SQ3R as well as those to the conventional reading strategy; and 5) There was a significant difference between the reading comprehension of the students exposed to the SQ3R and to the conventional reading strategy. This means that the SQ3R is a more effective strategy than conventional reading in the development of the students’ reading comprehension. On the above findings, it was concluded that students need a different reading strategy to improve their reading comprehension, but they perform better if they use the SQ3R instead of conventional reading strategy.

Abstract

Learning biology is about theory and practice while in the laboratory or environment. Animalia is one of the focuses of Biology and one of the topics that could not practice in the laboratory but should practice in the environment. Learning in an environment would give students any experiences. This study aims to report a case study that explores the experiences of prospective teacher students about learning outdoors through a herping activity. This research was taken from a university in Indonesia from June until December 2019. Data retrieval is taken through semi-structured interviews. Data analysis used the phenomenological design of 22 participants to be interviewed. The findings reveal that the challenges found in the field include field mastery, unpredictable weather, and finding the correct object. However, natural phenomena that are open in the wild become an attraction as bio-education develops for prospective teacher students. Understanding science material and science epistemological abilities is likened to a combination of hands-on activities students become complete with minds-on practices. For this reason, it is crucial when the learning process is packaged in frames that can stimulate prospective teacher students to be more active. The findings are how to combine formal learning in the classroom with wild herping activities to develop student bio-education.

Abstract

During Covid 19 pandemic, poverty is tremendously raising and expanding across the country, worsened the economic sector in almost every region in Indonesia, including in Semarang, Central Java. According to the number of residents living in Semarang, 79,058 people experienced an economic weakening in 2021. Based on the problem above, it can be concluded that there is a need for a community empowerment strategy model that is appropriate to market needs. This study reveals the implementation of a strategy model for empowering the urban poor based on market needs in the non-formal education carried out by BBPLK Semarang. This study uses a qualitative approach. The subjects of the research were 5 trainees and instructors. The technique of data collection was done by interview, observation, and documentation. To test the validity of the data, this study used technical triangulation. Data were analyzed using descriptive qualitative. This process put 3 activities, namely, (1) data reduction, (2) data presentation, and (3) drawing conclusions or verification. The community empowerment model implemented at BBPLK uses a strategy model for empowering the urban poor based on market needs. The stages of community empowerment are carried out through the awareness stage, the skill transformation stage, and the intellectual and innovative ability improvement stage. A common obstacle that occurs in BBPLK Semarang is the lack of instructors. BBPLK Semarang is still not being able to hold their instructors, so they need help from other parties such as a Private vocational training center in Semarang. Moreover, the most influential factor is the intention of the training participants themselves and the people who are reluctant to follow the training at BBPLK Semarang.

towards liberalization of trade and promoting importation and exportation business. This qualitative study sought to identify the emerging issues and concerns surrounding the implementation of the customs trade facilitation initiatives on exportation and importation in Central Luzon, Philippines. The participants of this study were 300 exporters, importers, and processors of the Port of Limay (Bataan), Port of Subic (Olongapo), and Port of Clark (Pampanga). A written interview guide was used in data collection. Findings showed varied concerns in the customs trade facilitation activities encountered by the participants in the different ports of Central Luzon. Major problems include the issues on processing time, website system, absence of signatories, delayed processes, trade ruling changes, and the absence of the paperless transactions. The preliminary data obtained from this qualitative research may be a baseline for the continuous improvement of the customs trade facilitation activities in the region. A quantitative instrument may likewise be developed based on the merging themes culled from this study to validate this qualitative inquiry's results further. The current study also contributes to the shortage of literature in the Philippines regarding customs trade facilitation initiatives.

Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic currently hits the world, and no country is not affected by the pandemic, included Indonesia. Every country issued policies to stop the pandemic and mitigate its impacts. Besides economy-related policies, the governments in many countries also issued policies in the health sector, including vaccination policy. The Republic of Indonesia Government also issued a policy in public health that is the National Vaccination Policy. The vaccine mainly used was Sinovac, made in China. This research attempted to analyze how the Indonesian online media reported Sinovac. The most representative online media had been chosen as the primary target. The method used was content analysis on the news published in the target media within seven months from January to July 2021. This research concluded two propositions. First, the more sensitive a product will receive, the more public responses from various interest groups. Second, if a product is ineffective and has weaknesses, the media will investigate and report more frequently.

Abstract

This study aimed to describe how teachers gave meaning to their transition experience to the new normal landscape of education amid the COVID 19 crisis. Using Transcendental phenomenological approach to qualitative research by Moustakas (1994), the researcher sought to explore the life world of seven (7) public school teachers who participated in individual interviews and focus group discussions and provided formal responses for the study. Interview data were collected and analyzed to offer textural-structural descriptions and the essence of the transition experience. The result revealed thirty-eight (38) significant statements forming six (6) essential themes: 1.) feeling of anxiety and stress, 2.) commitment to work, 3.) high volume workload, 4.) communication constraints, 5.) strong support system, and 6.) embracing new technologies which emerged among participants’ testimonies. These themes were further elaborated through textural and structural descriptions capturing the essence of the experience. In turn, emerging themes and underlying universal structures were used in developing a systematic framework named LEAP Transition Model to facilitate an understanding of teachers in transition and to provide them with the help they needed to cope better with the changes brought by an education crisis. The implications were discussed and further recommendations were made along with suggestions for future research.
