Abstract

Nowadays, a relatively large number of high school students have poor learning performance in Science which affects their academic performance and even the school National Achievement Test (NAT) result. This study determined the effectiveness of the localized and contextualized learning activities in improving the conceptual understanding of tenth-grade students in learning Biology for the Third Quarter of the School Year 2019-2020. The study was conducted using the pretest-posttest quasi-experimental design involving sixty (60) student-participants in a public secondary school in the Division of Surigao del Sur, Mindanao, Philippines. This study employed an intact group sampling technique in selecting the participants into two groups, the control group (conventional learning material/learning activity sheets) and the treatment group (localized and contextualized learning activities). The findings of the study revealed that the post-test mean score of the treatment group is greater than the post-test result of the control group. Also, there was a significant difference in the conceptual understanding of the students in the control group and treatment group. It shows that localized and contextualized learning activities promote a better understanding of the lesson. Hence, future study is suggested to develop and produce localized and contextualized instructional materials such as modules and worksheets for other learning competencies in Science.

Abstract

This study explored whether radio had an impact on the indigenous peoples or Bihug of Camarines Norte, Philippines in developing their concept of nation. Descriptive and exploratory research designs were used. Through a multi-level approach, the intensive qualitative component of the research procedure was addressed, the construction of the indigenous peoples’ concept of nation through radio listening. Thematic analysis was used to process the data gathered. The study employed Anderson’s theory on imagined communities as a social construction and Crisell’s characteristics of radio. Radio in the community of the indigenous peoples did not appear to play a primary role in the construction of their concept of nation; rather their actual encounters with people in various activities, their knowledge of places, the recognition given to their benefactors and stories from ancestors which helped in the realization of the extent of their assimilation with the lowlanders, their being Filipino, and their membership of a minority group were the main contributory factors. Although radio was not the main source, it contributed to the formation of their concept of nation as events, places, sense of belongingness, and benefactors. This study, which dealt with the role of radio in the formation of the indigenous peoples’ concept of nation in Camarines Norte, Philippines also considered other factors which may influence the construction of a concept of nation aside from radio like other mass media, and their social encounters with members of NGOs, other agencies and institutions, barangay officials and the constituents of the community where they stay.

Abstract

This study investigated the relationship between job satisfaction and work commitment among Dapitan City’s hospitality industry employees. It used a descriptive research method utilizing a questionnaire as the principal tool for gathering data. Data were statistically treated using frequency, weighted mean, Mann-Whitney U-Test, Kruskal-Wallis H-Test, and Spearman Rank-Order Correlation. The study revealed that employees were satisfied with their salary (existence), work environment (relatedness), and the way they were mentored in the performance of their jobs (growth). Most of the employees were committed to their work as they identified that the establishment had a deep sense of personal meaning to them (affective); that, for now, choosing to remain in the organization is motivated by both necessity and desire (continuance); and the establishment deserves their loyalty (normative). A significant difference resulted in job satisfaction when analyzed according to civil status. Moreover, when analyzed according to educational attainment and employment status, a significant difference was identified in employees' work commitment. Finally, it was discovered that among hospitality industry employees in Dapitan City, job satisfaction and work commitment have a considerably high positive relationship. Hospitality industry stakeholders and employees are encouraged to support educational advancement and enhance management practices to minimize employee turnover. Legislators and policymakers are encouraged to enact policies and measures in line with the improvement and advancement of hospitality industry employees.

Abstract

Excessive phone use has already impacted academic achievement and perceived sociability of students, but the intensity of screen time has worsened with the transition to online learning. Consequently, students tend to delay their tasks as they are easily distracted. This research examines the influence of gadget dependency on the academic procrastination levels of students. It employs a descriptive correlational research design and gathered data from Grade 12 STEM students. Overall, the degree of gadget dependency among students is high, whereas academic procrastination level is moderate, and these two measures have a significant relationship. Analysis shows that students from ROC are significantly higher in both areas. However, sex and screen time do not impact the extent of gadget dependency and academic procrastination. Saliently, learning modality induces gadget dependency and academic procrastination levels. In conclusion, gadget dependency directly affects academic procrastination levels. Findings also suggest further research on other related effects of online and distance learning.

Abstract

Women empowerment contributes to the coastal economy and dispositions to household income. This descriptive study aimed to establish women's empowerment and their roles in the overall performance of selected fisheries-related livelihood in coastal towns of Milagros, Cawayan, Placer, and Esperanza, Masbate. It was participated by 81 women beneficiaries. A structured survey questionnaire was utilized to collect information on the sociodemographic profile and adequacy level of empowerment aligned to WEAI-5DE. It was backed up with FGDs and KIIs. The data were treated through descriptive analysis techniques using frequencies and percentages. The respondents mainly belong to the reproductive age group (15-49 years old) and are married individuals (84%). They have resulted in the dismayed of occupation because respondents are mainly housewives. The present study reveals that women achieved an adequate level of control over using income and building relationships or groups within and outside the organization; hence, women are empowered. The study also focused on the need for women's empowerment along with agricultural production, access to and control of productive resources, leadership in the community, and time allocation. These gaps and impediments may be addressed when feasible vocational/TVET training programs are introduced to women, the establishment of collaboration among concerned government agencies to channel fishery products directly to the market, and the inclusion of gender sensitivity activities to lessen gender inequality in the fishery community.

Abstract

The increasing rate of gun-related deaths in the Philippines is one of the challenging variables in the management of arms and ammunition for effective safekeeping operations. This study describes the perceptions of the students towards management or arms and ammunition, and the relationship between the profile variates of the two-groups of respondents and the level of awareness on management of arms and ammunition. This descriptive correlational research determined the perceptions of 200 students towards management or arms and ammunition, and the relationship between the profile variates of the two-groups of respondents and the level of awareness on management of arms and ammunition. A researcher-developed questionnaire was utilized. During the conduct of the study, strict ethical principles including confidentiality and non-disclosure agreement were considered. Data were analyzed using frequency, percentage distribution, mean, rank, and Pearson's correlation coefficient. Accordingly, Carrying of Firearms Outside of Residence or Place of Business has the highest mean score of 3.39, interpreted as Highly Aware, Abandoned Firearms and Ammunition, and Death or Disability of the Licensee with a mean score of 1.95, interpreted as Slightly Aware (SA). The year level , number of trainings attended , gun ownership , family monthly gross income show significant relationships to the criminology student respondents level of awareness on effective strategies in weapons and ammunition management. Further, the number of trainings attended , gun ownership , and family monthly gross income show significant relationship to the non-criminology student respondents level of awareness on management of arms and ammunition. The majority of the respondents concur that the importance of having the permit to carry firearms outside of residence or place of business issued by the Chief, PNP, or by his/her duly authorized representative to the licensed citizen allowing him/her to carry the firearm outside the residence or place of business, as such, display of firearms is prohibited. Furthermore, the year level, number of training attended, gun ownership, and family monthly gross income has a direct positive effect on the criminology student respondents level of awareness on effective strategies in weapons and ammunition management, while the number of training attended, gun ownership, and family monthly gross income has a direct positive effect on the non-criminology student respondents level of awareness on management of arms and ammunition. Therefore, school administrators should provide and recalibrate complete gun safety training to ensure those gun owners are educated on the responsible practices for handling and using firearms, storing them securely at home, as well as carrying guns in public. Further studies may be conducted on policy analysis, enforcement, and analytical methods are applied to curb firearms-related violence.

Abstract

Blended learning is the combination of online distant learning being used in the schools. In the city where connectivity is proven, there are students who can adapt and yet there are also students who do not have a connectivity. In this way problem arises. We asked parents about this platform and from the parents themselves agreed from the school survey favored the digital modular learning. But in other localities preferred other modalities of learning. A lot of research involves teachers but seldom on the parents’ side. This is the researcher’s attempt to hear from the side of the parents and be a contributor to the effectiveness of Blended learning modality in Rizal High School. This study aimed to determine the Blended Learning Modality in the new normal and propose an input localized learning management system in the school. Specifically, it sought to answers the following problems: 1) what is the profile of parents’ respondents in terms of the following variables: Age; Educational background; Type of Internet connection; Gadget Access at home? 2) What is the assessment of respondents in the blended learning modality of the school in terms of the following variables: Platform & Support and Governance and Challenges encountered in the blended learning modality by the group of respondents? 3.) Is there significant relationship in the assessment of parents towards blended learning modality in terms of type of internet connection they have at home? 4. What proposal from the parents as inputs in the localized blended learning modality of Rizal High School? The descriptive method of research employed in this study. The subjects of the study were the parents at Rizal High School primarily the researcher’s handled section.

Abstract

Education plays a significant part in moulding the future of our young generation of learners and leaders, and recognized as a basic human right. It is an essential requirement for a person’s well-being. Education is an absolute right of every individual which will enable him/her to become a productive citizen, globally competitive and can make the difference to every individual’s quality of life. Schools faced unprecedented challenges to ensuring sustainable education during the novel coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic. As school closures due to COVID-19 separate students from structured routines and educational supports, the number of disengaged students may continue to grow. Accordingly, this quantitative study reported that the Rizal High School in Pasig City, Philippines continuously adopted Open High School Program to meet with the disengaged students in the new normal. The subjects of the study were the twenty randomly selected teachers of Rizal High School during the School Year 2020-2021. It was found out that summary of the assessment on the open high school program based on goals and objectives has a general weighted mean of 3.75 interpreted as strongly agree, implies that the goals and objectives of the Open High School Program were well planned, organized and clearly defined. Such that, the methods of teaching had a general weighted mean of 3.46 "Strongly Agree." Further, there was an issue in the open high school program learners that needs to be addressed.

Abstract

The government issued a tax incentive policy for the business sector. This policy was taken to help the public and business actors to survive in the middle period of the Covid-19 outbreak. The Covid-19 pandemic has influenced the relationship between tax incentives and MSME tax compliance. This study examines how much influence tax incentives have on MSME tax compliance. MSME actors get a total income tax incentive of 0.5% as referred to PP No. 23/2018 which is created by the government, where the taxpayers of MSME do not require to make tax deposits. During the Covid-19 pandemic, the government provided tax incentives that are expected to boost MSME tax compliance. The main objective of this study was to examine the impact of tax incentives on MSME tax compliance, using the Covid-19 situation as a moderating factor. The tax incentives in this study consist of knowledge of tax incentives and the use of tax incentives. The research data was obtained from UMKM in Kudus Regency with a sampling technique using purposive sampling. Data were collected from 231 respondents using a survey method. The data was analyzed using moderated regression analysis. The study's findings indicate that knowledge of tax incentives has a positive effect on MSME tax compliance, that use of tax incentives has no impact on MSME tax compliance, and that the Covid-19 pandemic has no influence on the relationship between knowledge of tax incentives and use of tax incentives on MSME tax compliance. The expected implication in this research is to be able to contribute to providing information about the compliance level of MSME taxpayers during the Covid-19 pandemic and to be used as evaluation material for the application of related policies.

Abstract

This study aims to obtain information about the anxiety and stress of postpartum mothers during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study used a descriptive survey method on a sample of pregnant women and women giving birth by purposive sampling, namely those who visited the Independent Practice Midwife (BPM) clinic in Bekasi City from April to July 2020, totaling 78 people. Data were collected using the DASS-21 questionnaire which was packaged in a google form and distributed online via WhatsApp social media. The data collected was then analyzed descriptively to be presented as a result of the research. The results showed that the psychological response to anxiety was normal 50 (64.10%), mild 14 (17.95%), moderate 11 (14.10%), severe 2 (2.56%), and very heavy 1 (1.28 %) of respondents. While the psychological response to normal stress was 59 (75.64%), mild 11 (14.10%), moderate 6 (7.69%), and severe 2 (2.56%) experienced psychologically normal but some experienced anxiety and stress. Most of the psychological responses to normal anxiety, but there are mild, moderate, severe, and very severe anxiety, as well as psychological responses to stress, although most normal, there is also mild, moderate, and severe stress.
