Abstract

The study analyzes the relationship between conversational applications (WhatsApp) and social media (Facebook and Instagram) through social capital in disaster mitigation at the Ciliwung Riverbank, Tugu Utara Village. This study used Mayfield's social media theory and Lasser's social capital theory in analyzing disaster mitigation. This study used a post-positivistic paradigm and combined two qualitative and quantitative approaches. Data collection techniques were carried out by direct observation, in-depth interviews, document studies, and distributing questionnaires through survey techniques. Qualitative data analysis used the Miles and Huberman model and quantitatively used descriptive statistics with correlation analysis. The results showed that the relationship between conversational media applications and social media with social capital was highly correlated and obtained a value above 0.75. This showed a very strong relationship before, during, and after the disaster. Users of conversational media applications and social media build social capital to help each other, build social networks and social relations, trust and cooperation to achieve common goals. The power of social capital through the application of conversational media and social media forms social interaction and social communication based on technology or digital in disaster areas.

Abstract

People's Business Credit (KUR) is a credit guarantee program, where this program is channeled to MSMEs who need additional loan funds for their businesses so that they can increase business productivity. After the program runs, the guarantee institution ensures that the program has been running productively or effectively so that the target for the distribution of the KUR program is achieved. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effectiveness of the distribution of People's Business Credit (KUR) and its effect on improving the performance of micro and small enterprises. The type of research used in this research is descriptive research. Descriptive research pays attention to the actual problem as it was at the time the research took place. Through descriptive research, researchers try to describe events and events that are the center of attention without special treatment for these events. The last stage in data analysis is drawing conclusions and verification. The results of this study indicate that KUR in the city of Pangkalpinang can be said to be effective, because it has met the requirements set by the government.

Abstract

Understanding EFL students’ levels of digital literacy is a vital step to improve the quality of English teaching and learning. This paper explored the levels of digital literacy skills of prospective Indonesian EFL teachers in the matter of their readiness for the integration and implementation of digital tools in their language learning practices. The respondents were three hundred thirty-six students majoring in the English Language Education department across cultural regions in Indonesia. A questionnaire was distributed online to gather data. The data were then tabulated and interpreted descriptively. The analysis results reported that the prospective Indonesian EFL teachers’ level of digital literacy was moderate. The discussion in this paper focuses on their digital literacy skills in terms of creative, technological, personal security, internet safety, problem-solving, information, communication or netiquette, and navigation. The findings of this study will provide a useful reference to improve learning practices and the integration and implementation of digital tools in English teaching and learning contexts.

Abstract

Advertising is an activity to advertise products or services as central creation into the wider meaning of their messages. Its messages have to be applied which refer to readers’ needs and interests in the current trends. Creating appropriated messages in multimodal discourse is a form of technological advances in advertising, such as the existence of multimodal discourse in newspapers. That print media still has a special place for its readers which consider some advantages in building messages. Producers produce some messages at multimodal discourse through newspapers that are used as one of media promotions. This makes producers have to provide extra funds for the promotions’ activities. It of course needs to create the messages of products or services in strategically position. Especially, it is during a pandemic situation to a new normal era where everything has to be done completely. Messages should be able to reach wide readers as their prospected customers. The position of message in multimodal discourse should be placed appropriately to build an active interaction with their prospected customers. It could be seen on watches’ advertising in newspapers. This research used data of 3 watches’ advertisings on Kompas as one of the popular daily newspapers in Indonesia. They were published in 2017 and 2018 where products are intended specifically for male and female consumers. Analyzing this research applied qualitative method through systemic functional of Halliday’s theories to show interpersonal view between participants. The results of this research appeared the positioning of participants’ mood as a description of the interpersonal situations in their roles. Participants’ positioning defined their activations in building interaction on multimodal discourse that be purposed for male and female as their prospected consumers.

Abstract

The pandemic has demonstrated the cooperatives’ preparation, preparedness, and ability to respond to the needs of their members and the community. The study aimed to assess the level of management practices observed by the cooperatives and to identify constraints faced in their operations before and during the pandemic. A quantitative research method was used. Interviews were performed in person and over-the-phone. Survey questionnaires were developed and put through a pilot test. Moreover, a Google form link was provided to respondents who wished to respond online. Minitab, a statistical tool, was used to aid with all data analysis. It has been discovered that cooperatives can significantly enhance their financial performance by properly managing their working capital, capital structure, and capital budgeting. Non-financial management techniques were also significant to cooperatives’ development. This work, in particular, provides vital information for comprehending the intricacies of many topics connected to cooperative operations.

Abstract

This study was undertaken to determine the performances of learners in reading comprehension before and after written and oral assessments thru peer tutoring strategy as a basis in formulating a reading intervention program. This used the experimental design which aimed at finding the cause-effect relationship among variables in a controlled condition. To identify the effects of peer tutoring in the reading comprehension of Grade 10 learners, two groups, the experimental and controlled, were utilized. The performances of the learners in both oral and written assessments before and after the intervention were analyzed. Learners in the control group are classified under the advanced level (M=45.47) while the learners in the experimental group are classified under the superior level (M=63.33) in the reading comprehension written test after the intervention. The control group obtained no significant difference (t=0.666; p=0.509) while there exists a significant difference in the experimental group (t=7.180; p=0.000) between the pre and post oral assessment. Based from the findings of the study, it was suggested that English teachers may infuse peer tutoring strategies tailored to the needs of their learners to enhance learners’ reading comprehension skills. The study proposed an intervention program for peer tutoring to improve the reading comprehension of Grade 10 learners.

Abstract

This study determined the significant contributions of university business incubators (UBIs) in selected higher education institutions in Region II to the business graduates’ employability and technopreneurship. The study also highlights the present situation of the UBIs and the involvement of the business graduates. The method used in the study were mixed quantitative and qualitative analysis. Data were gathered through the administration of a researcher-made questionnaire, interviews, and focus group discussions. Moreover, descriptive statistics were used for the quantitative part, while thematic analysis using in-vivo and free coding was used for the qualitative part. Results revealed that the UBIs under study have adequate facilities and services, develop utility models and seek patents for innovations, assist technopreneurs, start-ups, and businesses, and develop products for different industries. Best practices and challenges were also identified. Involvement with UBIs by business students was self-perceived as high extent, while BI personnel perceived it as low extent. The results led to the development of the UBI's significant contribution model in enhancing the knowledge and skills of the business graduates' employability and technopreneurship. It is pinpointed that BIs can enhance the learning experience of business students through immersion, including it in the development or enhancement of curricula, and developing clear policies and guidelines will benefit business students and other stakeholders.

Abstract

Organisations spend substantial amounts on sales promotion of goods and services. They ought to know the effectiveness of the sales promotion activities. To evaluate this effectiveness, different metrics are used. These include profits, return on investment, sales volume, pull-forward, halo, cannibalisation, engagement of old customers, customer satisfaction, and others. Easier said than done, evaluating the effectiveness of sales promotion activities can be a complicated task in practice, especially if there are multiple products involved. Allocation of revenue and costs over products and periods can be complex. There might be expected costs, and the division of such expenses can pose problems. A suitable basis needs to be developed for the allocation. In this paper, we present the practical difficulties involved in evaluating the effectiveness of sales promotion activities based on a survey of 110 marketing managers working in large MNCs from Pune. Findings suggest that multiple issues crop up in the actual evaluation, and at times, some approximation goes into the exercise of assessment.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the different marketing practices employed among sari-sari store owners in Dapitan City during the Calendar Year 2020. It used a descriptive research method utilizing a questionnaire as the principal tool for gathering data. The data were statistically treated using frequency counting, percent, weighted mean, standard deviation, and Mann-Whitney Test. The study's findings revealed that sari-sari store owners in Dapitan City had the same marketing practices focusing on process and people. Customers of the sari-sari stores had the same observation on the marketing practices of sari-sari store owners in Dapitan City, which focus on people and place. It was found that sari-sari store owners and customers had different perspectives or views on marketing practices. It was recommended that sari-sari store owners and potential sari-sari store owners attend training and seminars aiming to improve their marketing practices in coordination with the Department of Trade and Industry and the Local Government Unit of Dapitan. Further, customers are encouraged to give their feedback on the marketing practices of the sari-sari store owners, and researchers are encouraged to conduct a separate study on this matter.

Abstract

This paper aimed to examine the food safety practices among street food vendors in the Twin Cities of Zamboanga del Norte. Food safety practices covered two indicators; Sanitation and Personal Hygiene practices. There were two types of respondents in the study. First, there were 50 owners and proprietors of street food vendors in the twin cities, breakdown into 25 respondents for each City. Second, there were 400 total respondents in the study, and these were customers of the street food vendors; 200 respondents were allocated for Dapitan, while another 200 respondents were from Dipolog City. The study revealed that the majority of street vendor owners are college graduates. However, 98% or 49 of the respondents have not attended any food safety seminars. Further, sanitation practices are often practiced. Moreover, personal hygiene practices were frequently and sometimes practiced. There was a significant difference in the personal hygiene practices of when group according to Age. It implies that the younger generation of street vendors are still learning and could eventually learn as they grow older. A strong reason why hygiene practices differ between young and old street food vendors in these two cities. Most street vendors are mature individuals but are still active in the street vending business. However, these street food vendors still have poor food safety practices for a lack of appropriate knowledge, and most did not attend any sanitation and personal hygiene seminars/ workshops. Street vendors may be subject to a regular sanitary inspection regarding how street food merchants sell their goods to prevent contamination and keep the food they serve from any health risks. The LGU of both Cities may organize a seminar/training related to sanitation and personal hygiene to improve the standard of their Food vending continuously. A policy/program to be developed by each LGU as their support for these street food vendors.
