Abstract

The purpose of this qualitative case study is to explore the potential value of an innovative business model on pediatric immunization record management which will serve as the basis for the development of a digital platform for the use of pediatric consultants and medical secretaries at a private secondary hospital in Quezon City. The study utilized a qualitative case study involving the pediatric consultants and medical secretaries of a private secondary hospital in Quezon City. Qualitative data for this study were gathered through in-depth, semi-structured interviews, focus group discussions, documents, journaling, and observations. Results have shown that pediatric consultants and medical secretaries follow only one way of arranging patients' records which is through alphabetical order using the surname. Many clinics and hospitals still rely on paper-based medical records to document patients' information. All participants shared the same difficulties and sentiments when it comes to the problems they have in the current way they deal with immunization records. Based from the statements of the participants, results revealed that pediatric consultants and medical secretaries support and are in favor of the use of a web-based record management system. However, some participants stated their apprehensions for the security of patient information. Further study that focuses on formal training is recommended to increase the confidence of the healthcare workers in utilizing digital record management systems and intense exploration of the potential challenges in adapting a digitized records management system must be conducted.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the impacts of Filipino-based Learning Activity Sheets (LAS) on Grade 10 students' conceptual understanding of plate boundaries and earthquakes in science under the modular distance learning modality. Using a pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design, 30 students from Tomas V. Rivera National High School in Cawayan, Masbate were randomly selected to participate in the study. The results showed a significant improvement in students' conceptual understanding of plate boundaries and earthquakes, with a positive mean gain of 6.8 and 7.1, respectively, from the pretest to the posttest scores. Specifically, the students' level of conceptual understanding improved from 23.7% to 96.8%, with a 97% correct response rate on the posttest results. Moreover, paired sample t-test analysis revealed that the posttest scores of the students were significantly higher than their pretest scores at the 5% level of significance. These findings suggest that Filipino-based LAS significantly enhances students' conceptual understanding and mastery of concepts related to plate boundaries and earthquakes in Grade 10 Science under modular distance learning mode.

Abstract

The scope of the K–12 program's implementation of the Language Arts and Multiliteracies Curriculum was investigated by means of the curriculum's design, content, techniques, and approaches, as well as its resources and facilities for learning and evaluation. Quantitative and qualitative research designs were used in the study. Twenty (20) teachers and administrators, along with 226 elementary school pupils, participated in the data collection. The results showed that the English program for grades 6 through 12 was widely implemented. Learning facilities and resources were noted as a major issue. The issues with teachers' and students' readiness and preparation were of a relatively significant nature. As a result, the issues in the remaining areas, such as those with teaching strategies and techniques and curriculum enhancement, were a little more significant. The degree of implementation and achievement level have been proven to be significantly correlated. Therefore, even though the overall mean score indicated a passing rate, the lack of resources and facilities contributed in some measure to the achievement test result showing a sizable portion of students did not fulfill the norm. The Department of Education should therefore give immediate attention to resources and facilities since they are the most pressing issue affecting how the curriculum is implemented.

Abstract

This study examines the acceptance of automated piggery cleaner systems in the hog business in the Philippines using the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) model. It investigates piggery owners’ perceptions and attitudes toward adopting this technology and its potential impact on cleaning practices, hygiene standards, and productivity. A survey questionnaire was administered to 50 piggery owners in Cebu, Philippines, employing a mixed-methods approach. The analysis reveals that piggery owners generally hold positive perceptions and attitudes towards automated piggery cleaner systems, recognizing their potential benefits in enhancing productivity, efficiency, and career advantages. Factors influencing acceptance, such as performance expectancy, effort expectancy, facilitating conditions, and social influence, were explored. Although the correlation analysis does not show significant relationships between UTAUT constructs and behavioral intention, it emphasizes considering other factors like subjective norms and perceived behavioral control. The findings have important implications for the hog business in the Philippines. Embracing automated piggery cleaner systems can improve cleaning practices, enhance hygiene standards, prevent disease outbreaks, and increase productivity. Collaborative efforts among piggery owners, industry associations, and technology providers are recommended to address concerns and barriers, including providing training and support, ensuring compatibility, and emphasizing voluntary adoption. This study offers valuable insights for pig farmers, industry stakeholders, and policymakers, enabling the adoption of innovative technologies and achieving sustainable and efficient pig farming practices in the Philippines.

Abstract

Language attitudes refer to individuals' views, judgments, and emotions regarding a language or linguistic variety. These attitudes are shaped by various factors such as cultural, social, historical, and political contexts. In the case of Philippine English, attitudes regarding this linguistic variant have shifted, reflecting evolving views and ideals within Philippine culture. Thus, the study aimed to provide insights into the social, cultural, and linguistic factors that shape attitudes towards Philippine English and contribute to a better understanding of language attitudes in multilingual societies. Both quantitative and qualitative methods were employed in the study, specifically the concurrent triangulation or convergent parallel design. The researchers used convenience sampling to identify 40 ESL teachers in selected provinces in Central Luzon, Philippines. The research instrument that the proponents utilized for this study is the survey questionnaire, and the data were analyzed through descriptive statistics and thematic analysis. Based on the quantitative findings, the data revealed that most ESL teachers strongly agree with the acceptance and utility of Philippine English in ESL instruction. Furthermore, the qualitative data presented that Philippine English promotes cultural understanding, student engagement, language empowerment, and a sense of belonging. It also enhances language skills, promotes cultural relevance and understanding, boosts communication and confidence, facilitates real-life application, and contributes to the professional growth of teachers. Finally, incorporating Philippine English in ESL instruction contributes to a more inclusive, engaging, and effective language learning experience for students. The researchers recommended offering professional development opportunities for ESL teachers, addressing the concerns of teachers who express disagreement and doubt regarding the utility of Philippine English, supporting teachers in adapting their teaching methods to effectively incorporate Philippine English, and encouraging ongoing professional growth and development among teachers in the field of Philippine English for ESL education.

Abstract

In response to Mandanas Ruling, President Duterte signed Executive Order 138 which mandates the local government unit to formulate their Devolution Transition Plans (DTP) from FY2022 to FY2024. The DTP charted the capacity development agenda of every Local Government Unit and National Government Agency to prepare for full devolution in FY2024. This study covers 11 municipalities in the province of Masbate that belonged to the 4th and 5th classes in terms of income. It aims to identify the capacity development agenda to create a baseline for the capacity development program of the lower-classes municipalities towards full devolution. Specifically, this study highlighted the current state of capacity, the desired state, the alignment of these capacity development agenda to DILG, and, finally, the priority capacity interventions in response to the full devolution of the Agriculture sector. This study used qualitative and descriptive research approaches. An extensive document scrutinising of the Devolution Transition Plans was structured in each municipality. The study concede that lower-class municipalities have a low capacity to assume devolved services mandated in Section 17 of RA 7160 and other devolution laws in the sector of Agriculture and Extension Services. There are capacity gaps with the proposed specific capacity development agenda. The capacity development agenda were categorized into six (6) capacity pillars. These are the useful baseline in crafting the National Agencies’ Capacity Development Program.

Abstract

Students frequently believe that mathematics is a challenging subject to learn. The learners must have the necessary skills to study the material quickly as a result. The idea that learners can select various methods for completing particular tasks is implied frequently by the term "strategic learning skills". This strategy can help students develop their critical-thinking and artistic abilities in the classroom. The investigation aims to determine the level of strategic learning skills of students that affect their level of metacognitive skills in Mathematics. The study used the survey-correlational method of research in gathering data. The participants of this study were the 158 BS in Industrial Technology second-year students, officially enrolled in Capiz State University – Main Campus randomly selected using stratified sampling. Data were gathered using a 50-item researcher-made Strategic Learning Skills Questionnaire and a 35-item standardized Metacognitive Skills Questionnaire. Frequency count, percentage, mean, standard deviation, One-way ANOVA, and Pearson r were used as statistical tools. Inferential tests were at the alpha level of significance set at 0.05. Findings revealed that the level of strategic learning skills of the second-year learners of the BS in Industrial Technology was “high”. In consonance, the level of their metacognitive skills in Mathematics was “evident”. These led to the conclusion that there were no appreciable differences in the metacognitive abilities among the strategic learning skill levels of the second-year BS in Industrial Technology learners. There was no connection between the second-year students of BS in Industrial Technology's strategic learning and metacognitive skills in Mathematics.
