Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of an Augmented Reality (AR)-based learning strategy on EFL students’ vocabulary mastery. Conducted at Thammasat Wittaya School, Thailand, the research involved 25 eighth-grade students in the 2024/2025 academic year, divided into experimental and control groups using a quasi-experimental design. The experimental group received vocabulary instruction through AR visuals and collaborative discussions, while the control group was taught using conventional methods. Data were collected using pre-tests and post-tests and analyzed using paired and independent t-tests. The findings revealed a significant improvement in vocabulary scores and student motivation in the experimental group compared to the control group (p 0.001). These results suggest that integrating AR-based strategies in EFL classrooms can effectively enhance vocabulary acquisition and learner engagement.

Abstract

This study was carried out to find out the effect of gamified Augmented Reality on the reading comprehension of students at a vocational high school in Indonesia. Since Indonesia performs poorly in PISA reading scores, it adopted AR and gamification as means to enhance attention and understanding. It applied a quasi-experimental design that compared the reading scores of students who learned through gamified AR versus those who received conventional treatment. The participants were 10th-grade students from a public vocational high school in East Java, divided into a control and experimental group. Pre-tests and post-tests were used to measure comprehension. Although the Post-test scores of the experimental group were higher, the difference was not statistically significant. The small effect size implies potential benefits from gamified Augmented Reality on enhancing reading. This study justifies integration of AR into English curricula for richer learning experiences and overcoming challenges in reading within vocational education.

Abstract

Preservice teachers often face challenges in designing instructional plans that are coherent, goal-oriented, and adaptable to diverse student needs. Although various instructional design models exist, their practical use remains limited. This study explores the application of the REAL (Review, Elaborate, Apply, Lead-up) model and Universitas Swadaya Gunung Jati. Using a qualitative approach, data were collected through questionnaires and unstructured interviews. Results show that the REAL model supports systematic and practical instructional design, with a satisfaction score of 2.70 indicating positive responses. Interviews further reveal increased confidence and clarity among preservice teachers. This model is recommended for use as a practical framework in the design of teaching instruction and is suggested for further evaluation to enhance its scalability and impact across different educational contexts.

Abstract

In the context of globalization, English speaking proficiency has become increasingly crucial, particularly in ASEAN countries such as Thailand. However, Thai EFL learners often struggle with speaking due to low confidence, limited vocabulary, and traditional teacher-centered methods. This Classroom Action Research (CAR) aimed to improve Thai primary students’ English-speaking skills through a culturally responsive and media-supported approach. The intervention was conducted at Islam Suksa Darulbir School, Satun, Thailand, during an international teaching program involving Indonesian preservice teachers from August 1–28, 2024. The program integrated YouTube video-based learning with interactive speaking activities across six sessions. The participants were 28 students from Grades V and VI with low speaking proficiency. Data were collected through speaking pre- and post-tests, classroom observations, interviews, and documentation. The results showed significant improvement in students’ accuracy (from 68.14 to 76.14), fluency (from 70.18 to 77.32), and comprehension (from 72.04 to 79.18), with an overall average gain of 7.54 points. Reliability testing using Cronbach’s Alpha yielded a value of 0.975, indicating excellent instrument consistency. Qualitative findings revealed increased classroom engagement, confidence, and communicative competence. Students responded enthusiastically to contextual video input and the culturally familiar presence of the Indonesian teacher, which fostered a supportive and interactive learning environment. The study concludes that integrating educational media with international teaching programs enhances speaking skills and learner motivation in EFL contexts. It recommends wider implementation of student-centered, media-rich strategies and expanded collaboration in cross-cultural teaching initiatives. These findings offer practical insights for educators, curriculum developers, and language policymakers aiming to improve EFL speaking instruction.

Abstract

This study examines the use of Indonesian short stories as a medium of cultural diplomacy in learning Indonesian for Foreign Speakers (BIPA) at Phatnawitya School, Yala, Thailand. Although literary texts have long been used in BIPA learning, studies that specifically examine their role as an instrument of cultural diplomacy in the context of multicultural education are still limited. The purpose of this study is to describe the use of short stories as a means of cultural diplomacy in the BIPA learning process at Phatnawitya School. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach, with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study showed that short stories were effective in improving the language skills of foreign learners, including reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. In addition, the use of short stories also encourages understanding and appreciation of Indonesian culture. The learners showed high enthusiasm and were able to express their ideas through the presentation of their work. Thus, short stories have proven to contribute positively to the development of language competence and become a means of conveying Indonesian cultural values subtly (soft diplomacy) in the realm of international education.
