Abstract

Analysing the textbook is necessary to ensure its alignment with the goals that are promoted by the curriculum. This study aims to evaluate the alignment of the exercises in the Grow with English textbook for sixth-grade elementary school with the Merdeka Curriculum, focusing on Listening and Speaking elements in learning outcomes of Phase C (grades V and VI).  Employing a content analysis, the textbook was analysed based on a checklist rubric adapted from Akhmad et al. (2022). The research examines the textbook’s content relevance, language skills coverage, cultural appropriateness, visual design, grammar and vocabulary, and methodological approaches. Findings reveal the textbook partially fulfils the Merdeka Curriculum expectations but would benefit from enhanced intercultural integration, increased authenticity in tasks, and greater emphasis on project-based and autonomous learning to foster communicative competence and character development in learners. This research contributes to textbook evaluation and supports the improvement of English language instruction in primary education.

Abstract

Developing employability-ready English speaking skills remains challenging and persistent in Indonesian vocational schools across contexts. This mixed-methods study investigated the effectiveness of ELSA, an AI-driven speaking app, embedded in a four-week blended course with two weekly 90-minute sessions for 30 Grade-11 Agribusiness students. Surveys (validated), CEFR-aligned observations, and interviews examined gains in pronunciation, fluency, confidence, and motivation, and documented implementation factors. Results show marked improvement in prosody, articulation, and extended turns; learners reported higher confidence, autonomy, and sustained engagement driven by real-time feedback, progress tracking, and gamified tasks. Skills transferred to vocationally authentic performances (e.g., product descriptions, customer service, job-interview simulations). However, efficacy depended on device availability, stable connectivity, digital literacy, and teacher mediation; freemium limits also constrained practice. The study concludes that ELSA-supported blended learning offers a practical, scalable model to strengthen oral proficiency and motivation in vocational EFL programs, provided institutions ensure equitable access, teacher support, and curricular alignment.

Abstract

Reading skills are very important for students such as students can get information from reading, students can improve their knowledge, students can expand their way of thinking by reading any text. Thus, this research aims to determine whether using the effectiveness of the Preview, Question, Read, Summarize, and Test (PQRST) method in enhancing reading comprehension skills of tenth-grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Torue. The researcher used purposive sampling approaches to get the sample. Using a quasi-experimental design with 72 participants divided equally into experimental and control group. Data were collected through pre-test and post-test on recount texts. The pre-test measured students' prior knowledge, where as the post-test measured students' improvement in reading comprehension using the PQRST method following the treatment.  The results show that the experimental group improves significantly in reading comprehension, with the mean score rising from 59.64 in the pre-test to 87.28 in the post-test. In comparison, the control group showed a modest increase, with mean scores increasing from 65.19 to 75.83. Statistical analyses confirmed the PQRST method that the improvement in the experimental group was statistically significant (p 0.05). The findings show that using the PQRST method successfully improves students' conceptual comprehension and promotes more fair learning outcomes. As a result, it is recommended that the PQRST method be used more widely to teach reading comprehension in senior high schools.

Abstract

This study examines the role of digital linguistics—emoji use, code-switching, and hashtags—in shaping employee engagement within a private logistics company in Medan, Indonesia. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through semi-structured interviews with employees actively engaged in internal digital communication, and were analyzed thematically. Findings indicate that emojis help soften messages, reduce tension, and foster warmth in workplace interactions. Code-switching between Indonesian, English, and local dialects functions as a social adaptation strategy and professional identity marker. Hashtags, though less frequent, act as symbolic tools for uniting teams, reinforcing collective identity, and emphasizing project goals. Together, these practices enrich digital communication and support the dimensions of vigor, dedication, and absorption in employee engagement. Grounded in Social Exchange Theory (SET) and Media Richness Theory (MRT), this research underscores digital linguistics as a strategic HRM tool for enhancing engagement, while highlighting organizational reputation and governance as crucial supporting factors.

Abstract

This study highlights the vital role of socio-emotional and language development in early childhood as key foundations for later success. It investigates the influence of parenting styles and parental educational attainment on these developmental aspects among children at Murung Raya Kindergarten, Banjarmasin. Using a quantitative explanatory design and path analysis, data were collected from 173 parents through validated Likert-scale questionnaires. Results showed that parenting style significantly influenced language (β=0.253; p0.05) and socio-emotional development (β=0.622; p0.05), while parental education also had significant effects on both domains. Socio-emotional development strongly predicted language outcomes (β=0.578; p0.05) and mediated the relationships between parenting style and language development (Sobel = 6.674; p0.05), and parental education and language development (Sobel = 4.832; p0.05). These findings underscore the importance of supportive parenting and educational backgrounds in promoting holistic early childhood development and highlight the value of family-based interventions.
