Abstract

This study focuses on students' difficulties in mastering English vocabulary. The purpose of this study was to determine the students' difficulties in mastering vocabulary. This study uses a qualitative research design with a descriptive approach. To obtain data, the researcher used a questionnaire. This research was conducted by giving questionnaires to the participants. The findings revealed that shows that 25% strongly agree. This shows that students still have difficulty in using vocabulary that has many meanings correctly; 25% agree; 25% disagree; 12% disagree and 14% students vote. It can be concluded Class X students of SMAN 1 Bangkinang still have many difficulties in mastering vocabulary.

Abstract

This study was conducted to determine students' mastery in finding verbs, especially regular and irregular verbs through "A Million Dreams" song to find out how much students mastery in knowing verbs in a song. Furthermore, the method used in this study is a qualitative research method. The data of this study were collected through tests as data instruments. The population in this study were students of class X IPS 2 SMAN 1 Bangkinang in the academic year 2022/2023. The population consists of one social studies class and the sample of this study is 26 students. The results showed that a song can build students' motivation to learn English in finding verbs, especially regular and irregular verbs easily. Songs are able to facilitate students' mastery in finding verbs in a song. Thus, the writer concludes that the song "A Million Dream" can motivate students' mastery in finding verbs based on student needs and language level learning objectives. Songs in learning positive activities can develop listening skills, better understand lessons, and broaden knowledge.

Abstract

This study aims to describe gender injustice in Photocopier movie by Wregas Bhanuteja using feminist literary criticism theory and Fakih’s theory of gender to explain the patriarchal culture that causes gender injustice in this movie. This research was conducted through the qualitative research method. The data source in this research is Photocopier movie by Wregas Bhanuteja on Netflix. The steps for data collection with qualitative techniques, library techniques, reading techniques, and note-taking techniques. The form of data in this research is the form of sentences, dialogues, and discourses contained in Photocopier movie by Wregas Bhanuteja, chosen according to the main problem in this study, namely Gender Injustice in Photocopier movie by Wregas Bhanuteja. The results obtained 5 forms of gender injustice by Fakih’s theory namely: marginalization, subordination, stereotype, violence, and double burden which are influenced by the patriarchal culture where men dominate and are powerful toward women

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low writing skill of students in SMAN 2 Rumbio Jaya. This research aims to know the effect of Scrambled Picture toward students’ writing skill of tenth grade SMAN 2 Rumbio Jaya. The methodology in this research is quasy-experimental design consisting of an experimental class and control class. The experimental class consisted of 20 students and the control class consisted of 20 students. This research used purposive sampling as a sampling technique. The instrument used in this research was a test of writing. The data were analyzed by using the 25 SPSS program. Based on the result of the research, the average student score in the pre-test were 68.50 and 83.00 in the post-test. Data analysis showed a significance (2-tailed) 0.110.05, which means that Ha is accepted. It can be concluded that there is an effect of scrambled picture toward students’ writing skill of tenth grade SMAN 2 Rumbio Jaya.

Abstract

The need for technology in English Students of University of Riau is getting more and more advanced and developed. It is used in many aspects of law education including English course. Likewise, with the science of education and technology more and more students want to learn and gain knowledge. To solve the problem, in the first semeseter of English students  the authors conducted a survey at three classes of of University of Riau. The survey revealed students' expectations of learning English by Innovative Approaches Technology Via Tricide at university, their desire to improve their learning, and their knowledge of tecgnology. The results of the survey became the basis for the study. According to the results of the survey, the article summarizes and formulates recommendations for improving English language innovative Approaches technology for law students.

Abstract

This study aims to determine whether using the cartoon movie affects students’ listening comprehension in eleventh grade for the academic year 2022/2023. The research was conducted on eleventh grade MIA students at SMAN 2 Bangkinang Kota. The study involved 63 students who were divided into 2 classes, namely class XI MIA 1 as the control class which consists of 30 students, and XI MIA 5 as the experimental class with 27 students present that day. The experimental class uses the cartoon movie as media learning and the control class is taught using conventional media which is using the audio speaker. The data were analyzed using the SPSS 25 program. Based on the results obtained, the average value of students in the experimental class was 61.85 and 48.33 in the control class. The data obtained showed a significance (2-tailed) 0.001 0.05. This means that H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. This indicates that there are differences in students’ listening comprehension between students who are taught using the cartoon movie and students who are taught using audio speakers. Based on the findings, it can be concluded that cartoon movie effectively affects students’ listening comprehension.Keywords: Listening Comprehension, Cartoon Movie

Abstract

The utilization of video content offers visually captivating elements that captivate pupils, while its accessibility across several platforms renders it very adaptable. Various videos, including those from TED Talks, can be used for English language acquisition. The research focused on the perspectives from learners on using TED Talk videos for the purpose of self-directed listening. The study utilizes a quantitative survey design as its approach. The researcher administered an online questionnaire consisting of close-ended questions to a sample of 12th grade students at SMAN 10 Malang. The findings show TED conference videos had a beneficial effect on enhancing the listening abilities of learners. Most learners have the capacity to improve their vocabulary and their ability to understand several diverse accents. Moreover, participating in individual listening can equip students with a foundational understanding of the complexities.
