Abstract

Waste problems in the irrigation channels of Bendung Rentang, Majalengka, have disrupted water distribution functions, polluted the environment, and increased public health risks. This community service program aims to empower the local community by strengthening technical capacity, institutional development, and downstreaming of waste processing products based on appropriate technology. A participatory approach was adopted involving 20 members of Komunitas Hujan Keruh in training to operate the Waste Processing System (WPS), establishing a formal waste management group, and providing assistance in marketing products such as Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF), liquid fertilizer, and maggot feed. The results showed a significant increase in participants’ technical knowledge by up to 50%, the formation of a management group with clear standard operating procedures (SOP), and initial trials of product downstreaming to local markets. In conclusion, this program effectively supports a circular economy and is feasible to be replicated in other regions facing similar waste management challenges.

Abstract

Global economic instability triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic, geopolitical conflicts, inflation, and commodity price fluctuations has increased household financial vulnerability in Indonesia, especially among low- and middle-income groups. Many households, particularly those led by housewives, lack adequate financial literacy and skills in managing household budgets. This community service program aimed to enhance family financial resilience by educating housewives in Bangah Village, Sidoarjo, on healthy household financial management. The activity, held on July 20, 2025, involved 70 participants and was implemented through three stages: education using interactive presentations, practical exercises through case studies, and evaluation via pre- and post-tests. The pretest revealed that 70% of participants had not managed household finances effectively. Post-test results indicated a 20% improvement, with 90% of participants understanding proper budget allocation and distinguishing needs from wants. The program successfully increased participants’ knowledge and skills in managing finances, though some still reported expenditures exceeding income. Participants suggested future training include topics on investment and digital literacy.

Abstract

Batik is not just a cloth with beautiful motifs, because behind the elegance of the motifs or patterns, there are philosophical meanings that reflect the cultural values, history, and identity of the Indonesian nation. Common motifs used in classical batik such as the Semén Rama motif, which is associated with the Javanese palaces, especially Yogyakarta and Surakarta, are not only aesthetically appealing, but also symbolize various aspects of Javanese philosophy, social order, spirituality, leadership, wisdom, purity, and noble character as important elements in the development of human personality. The Javanese leadership ethos studied from the Semén Rama motif is Astha Brata, which contains eight elements of the universe), namely: earth/soil, sun, fire, ocean/sea, sky, wind, moon, and stars (cosmocentric) or 8 (eight) characters and actions or eight (8) gods, namely: Endra, Surya, Bayu, Kuwera, Baruna, Yama, Chandra, and Brahma, are universal and up to date, as a reflection of noble values that are always in the midst of human life. Leaders can reflect on the eight elements of nature so that their leadership practices can run well and be successful in accordance with the development of the path and in line with the contents of the universe which have been systematically arranged by Almighty God.

Abstract

This community service initiative was conducted to strengthen 21st-century skills, particularly computational, critical, and creative thinking, among pre-service teachers at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). The program was designed as a training workshop that combined interactive lectures, hands-on activities, and collaborative problem-solving tasks to expose participants to innovative approaches in teaching and learning. A total of sixty pre-service teachers participated in the program, engaging in activities that integrated computational thinking strategies with opportunities for critical reflection and creative expression. Evaluation data were collected through pre- and post-training questionnaires, reflective journals, and group discussions. The findings revealed notable improvements in participants’ ability to analyze problems systematically, apply logical reasoning, and generate innovative solutions within educational contexts. Furthermore, the participants expressed positive attitudes toward adopting these skills in their future teaching practice. This initiative demonstrates the potential of structured community service programs to support the development of essential 21st-century competencies among pre-service teachers, contributing to the broader goal of preparing future educators to meet the challenges of contemporary education.

Abstract

School violence, such as bullying and intimidation, remains a crucial issue with a serious impact on student well-being, despite various preventative measures. Conventional guidance and counseling services, which often employ methods such as lectures and group discussions, are considered ineffective in fostering empathy and providing a deeper understanding of the impact of violence. To address this gap, an innovative intervention called Virtual Reality Therapy (VRT) was proposed and implemented. VRT uses realistic simulations, allowing students to experience violent scenarios from multiple perspectives: as victims, perpetrators, and witnesses. The program includes training for guidance and counseling teachers, VR content creation workshops, and implementation support, aimed at improving their technical skills and readiness to adopt the technology. Evaluations using pretests and posttests showed significant improvement. This improvement demonstrates that VRT is an effective and transformative tool for creating safer and more violence-free school environments.

Abstract

The community service partner is the elderly and families in Tambak Baru Ilir Village. There are still many elderly people who suffer from hypertension. If hypertension does not show symptoms, the elderly rarely seek treatment. The elderly rarely engage in physical activity. Individuals with hypertension often experience complex problems such as difficulties in fulfilling self-care and a decline in quality of life, leading to the elderly becoming dependent on others around them. Elderly and families need to be socialized about hypertension-friendly support to address issues caused by hypertension through hypertension education, education about the DASH diet, stress management, and a 60-minute exercise session for 25 elderly individuals. The result of the hypertension-friendly support education is that the elderly and their families feel enthusiastic about this activity. In self-care, all are in the sufficient category and all are in the independent category. Hypertension-friendly support can have a positive impact on elderly individuals who face issues due to hypertension, helping them to maintain their lives and continually respond to their surrounding environment.
