Abstract

This community service program aimed to enhance environmental awareness through the development and maintenance of a controlled waste incineration facility in Tegal Sari Village, Walantaka District, Serang City. The program was implemented using a participatory and educational approach that actively involved community members in the planning, construction, utilization, and maintenance processes. Activities included environmental education, group discussions, hands-on training, and collective action, enabling residents to understand the negative impacts of improper waste burning on health and the environment. The results indicated a significant shift in community attitudes and behaviors toward more responsible waste management practices. Residents became more aware of environmental risks and demonstrated increased participation in maintaining cleanliness and sustainability. Furthermore, the program strengthened social cohesion, encouraging collective responsibility and long-term engagement in environmental protection. The integration of technical solutions and social empowerment proved effective in fostering sustainable behavioral change. This program contributed not only to environmental improvement but also to community capacity building. The model has strong potential for replication in other rural areas facing similar waste management challenges, emphasizing the importance of community-based environmental interventions.

Abstract

Abrasion can cause environmental damage, damage coastal infrastructure, and threaten the lives of communities living around the coast. One effort that can be made to prevent abrasion is planting mangroves along the coastal area. Mangrove forests are important habitats for marine organisms and act as coastal guards against abrasion. One area that has mangrove forests and is quite vulnerable to abrasion is Pulau Ketam Kuala Perlis. This activity aims to increase community awareness about the importance of mangroves in preventing abrasion, specifically in Pulau Ketam Kuala Perlis. The methods used include observation, interviews, and planting. The results of the Community Service Activity show that the community of understands and greatly benefits from mangrove planting efforts and abrasion prevention.

Abstract

Napan Village, located in the RI–RDTL border area, faces communication challenges due to limited internet access and the community’s reliance on basic mobile phones. This condition slows down the dissemination of village information, which is still carried out manually. This community service program aims to provide a practical solution through the implementation of an SMS Gateway system using Gammu and MySQL. Village officials received outreach and training on system installation, resident database management, and mass message delivery. Evaluation results showed a positive response: 92% of participants found the training easy to follow, 88% experienced the benefits of faster information delivery, and 90% stated that the application was easy to use. The implementation of the SMS Gateway has proven to enhance communication efficiency and strengthen the digital capacity of village officials. The program is expected to be further developed by integrating the system with other administrative services to ensure its long-term sustainability.

Abstract

Worm infection occurs when eggs or larvae enter the body, the worm parasites attach to the intestinal mucosa, suck blood chronically, resulting in significant blood loss. In addition, worms interfere with nutrient absorption (malabsorption), causing deficiencies in iron, folate, and protein, which are essential for hemoglobin formation, thus causing anemia. Infections often occur in elementary school students due to limited knowledge about worm invasion. Community service activities with the Community Partnership Program (CPP) Science and Technology Scheme, The Importance of Increasing Knowledge About Worm Infections and Hemoglobin (Hb) Examination as an Effort to Prevent Anemia in Students of SDN Cikiwul 2, Bantar Gebang, Bekasi. The target group is 102 students in grades 5 and 6.The method of increasing knowledge through pre-test and post-test using a questionnaire, and measuring Hemoglobin (Hb) levels using a Point of Care (POCT) tool.  Determination of anemia categories based on cut-offs by WHO in the Guideline on Hemoglobin Cut-offs to Define Anaemia in Individuals and Populations. The results of the activity showed an increase in students' knowledge of worms, from 74.8 in the pre-test to 81.3 in the post-test. The proportion of students with a score of 70 or above also increased, from 68.6% in the pre-test to 82.4% in the post-test. The average HB level was 12.3 g/dL, with a minimum of 9.4 g/dL and a maximum of 16.3 g/dL. The overall prevalence of anemia remains relatively high (32.3%), with mild anemia predominating (18.6%). No students were found to have severe anemia. Male students tended to have anemia more often (40%), with 24.0% having mild anemia compared to female students. The age of students experiencing anemia ranged from the age group > 12 years at 48.3%, with 34.5% being in the mild anemia category. The proportion of 5th grade students with anemia was 36.3%, with 22.7% being in the mild anemia category. The results indicate the potential for continued accumulation of nutritional deficiencies.

Abstract

This community service (PKM) program aimed to enhance the digital competencies of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) fostered by Rumah BUMN Yogyakarta in response to rapid technological developments and increasing demands for digital transformation. Limited understanding of digital marketing, the use of e-commerce platforms, and social media management has been a major barrier preventing MSMEs from expanding their market reach and improving competitiveness. Through a training and mentoring program covering basic digital literacy, social media optimization, marketplace introduction, and digital content creation techniques, participants were equipped with practical skills that could be directly applied to their businesses. The program employed an implementation method based on interactive discussions between business actors and resource persons. Evaluation results indicated improvements in participants’ knowledge and skills in leveraging digital technologies for promotion and business management. In addition, participants were able to develop more effective digital marketing strategies tailored to the characteristics of their respective products. This program is expected to strengthen MSMEs’ capacity to adapt to the digital business ecosystem and to support local economic growth in Yogyakarta.

Abstract

The high spread of rabies in Malaka Regency has raised concerns among the people of Malaka, including communities in Timor Leste that directly border the regency. Information about the spread of this disease has not been openly disseminated to the public due to the absence of a system capable of accommodating such needs. To address this problem, it is necessary to develop a Geographic Information System (GIS) for mapping rabies cases in the Indonesia - Timor Leste border area. The system is developed as a web-based platform, enhancing accessibility by enabling residents to retrieve information from any location with internet access. The project was carried out in three primary phases: preparation, deployment, and testing and evaluation. The development and implementation of the system were completed successfully. The findings indicate that the developed system functions effectively as an information tool for the community. Evaluation results demonstrate that it successfully provides accessible and reliable data on rabies cases in Malaka and nearby areas, including bordering districts in Timor Leste. The system achieved an average acceptance score of 4.64, reflecting a generally positive response from users. Overall, the web-based GIS proves to be a practical and efficient solution for improving the delivery and impact of public health information services.

Abstract

Indonesia has abundant biomass resources, one of which comes from coconut shell waste that has not been optimally utilized. Coconut shell waste has the potential to be processed into briquettes, an environmentally friendly alternative energy source with economic value. This Community Service (PKM) activity aims to improve the knowledge and skills of communities in the Laogo region in utilizing coconut shell waste into briquettes and increase their understanding of renewable energy-based business management. The activity implementation methods included outreach, briquette-making demonstrations, an initial questionnaire to determine the community's level of knowledge, and Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) to identify obstacles and find solutions appropriate to local conditions. The results of the activity showed an increase in community understanding of the briquette-making process and its use as an alternative fuel. In addition, the community also gained knowledge about managing small businesses based on waste processing. The community response to this activity was very positive, with most participants expressing interest in producing briquettes independently. Obstacles faced included limited equipment, business capital, and technical knowledge. Therefore, ongoing support from various parties is needed to improve the sustainability of businesses based on the utilization of coconut shell waste and to support the development of renewable energy at the community level.
