Abstract

Hypertension in the elderly is an important global health problem that, if not managed properly can cause serious complications. In Indonesia, the prevalence of hypertension tends to increase with age, especially among the elderly. Hypertension can be treated with pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapy, one of which is through hypertension exercise. This study aims to determine the effect of hypertension exercise modification and education by distributing leaflets on the knowledge and blood pressure of the elderly in the Chronic Disease Management Program (Prolanis) of the Halmahera Health Center UPTD. The method used is quantitative with a pre-posttest design. The population used was all Prolanis patients, with sample selection using simple random sampling, namely 20 respondents. Data were collected using a questionnaire with blood pressure measurements before and after the hypertension exercise intervention. The results of the study showed that hypertension exercise had a significant effect on decreasing diastolic blood pressure (p = 0.001), but did not have a significant effect on decreasing systolic blood pressure (p = 0.130). Providing education through leaflets did not show a significant effect on increasing the knowledge of the elderly (p = 0.398). Based on these findings, hypertension exercise has been proven effective as one of the interventions in managing hypertension in the elderly, although education through leaflets did not show significant changes in knowledge. This study is expected to provide contributions in the development of hypertension management in the elderly.

Abstract

Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) is a condition characterized by an imbalance between energy and protein intake, resulting in the body’s nutritional needs not being adequately met. In Central Sulawesi, the prevalence of pregnant women experiencing CED is 22.7%. To determine the relationship between food intake in pregnant women and the incidence of Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) in the working area of the Bulili Community Health Center. This study used a quantitative design using a cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of all pregnant women who sought antenatal care at the Bulili Community Health Center. A total sampling technique was used, involving 20 pregnant women. Data were collected using a Semi-Quantitative Food Frequency Questionnaire and analyzed using the Chi-Square Test and Fisher’s Exact Test for interpretation. The results of the study revealed that among pregnant women diagnosed with Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED), 6 individuals (40%) had inadequate energy intake, while 9 individuals (60%) had adequate intake. For carbohydrate intake, 8 individuals (53.3%) had inadequate intake, while 7 individuals (46.6%) had adequate intake. For protein intake, 4 individuals (26.6%) had inadequate intake, while 11 individuals (73.3%) had adequate intake. For fat intake, 2 individuals (13.3%) had inadequate intake, while 13 individuals (86.6%) had adequate intake. The Fisher’s Exact Test showed a p-value > 0.005, indicating that there is no relationship between food intake in pregnant women and the incidence of Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) in the working area of the Bulili Community Health Center.

Abstract

Breast milk is grease emulsion in liquid, lactose and an organic mineral saltthat iscontraceptive methodsare effective  methods for delaying and sparing pregnancy, and stoppingfertility. A preliminary study conducted at Kadolomoko Health Center showed low IUD use due to lack of knowledge about long-term contraceptive methods (LMPs). This emphasizes the importance of education about available contraceptive options. The objective of this study is to determine the effect of counseling on IUD contraceptive methods using leaflet media on the knowledge level of women of childbearing age at Kadolomoko Health Center. This study adopted a design referred to as Experimental with a one group pre testpost test design. In other words, the investigators conducted measurements at two points of time, Pre and Post treatment measures. Normality was tested using Kolmogorov Smirnov and showed the data distributed non-normally. The effect of the IUD contraceptive counseling on leaflet media was evaluated by Wilcoxon test. Before counseling IUD with leaflets, 46% of respondents have sufficient knowledge, 49% have less knowledge, and 5% have good knowledge. Post-counseling, moderate knowledge adoption among the respondents stood at 64.4% while very good knowledge adoption rose to 30,3% and poor knowledge retention fell to 5.3%. IUD counseling using leaflet media has an effect on increasing the level of knowledge of respondents with a p value of 0.000.

Abstract

Smoke-Free Areas (Kawasan Tanpa Rokok/KTR) are public health policies aimed at creating tobacco-free environments, especially in educational institutions. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between knowledge, attitudes, and individual characteristics of teachers and staff with the implementation of KTR in public senior high schools (SMA) in Binjai City. A cross-sectional quantitative design was applied with 84 respondents selected using stratified random sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using the chi-square test (α = 0.05). The results showed that most respondents had moderate levels of knowledge and attitude, with the majority (46.4%) also demonstrating moderate KTR-related actions. No significant association was found between age (p = 0.986), gender (p = 0.199), occupation (p = 0.526), or knowledge (p = 0.311) and KTR-related behavior. However, a significant relationship was found between smoking status (p = 0.006) and attitude (p = 0.039) with KTR implementation. Interestingly, even among those with positive attitudes, not all translated this into supportive behavior, indicating a gap between attitude and action. These findings suggest that KTR policy effectiveness in schools requires not only awareness but also institutional interventions, such as integrating KTR rules into school regulations, establishing participatory monitoring systems, and empo wering teachers and students as change agents.

Abstract

One of the main barriers to effective tuberculosis treatment is patients’ low level of medication adherence. This issue often results in incomplete treatment and thus requires support from healthcare workers and treatment supervisors (PMOs). This study aimed to examine the relationship between the roles of healthcare workers and PMOs with medication adherence among tuberculosis patients at Lamongan Community Health Center. A cross-sectional design was employed, utilizing total sampling of 52 tuberculosis patients. Data were collected using structured questionnaires on the roles of healthcare workers, questionnaires PMOs, and as well as the MMAS-8 questionnaire to assess adherence. The majority of tuberculosis patients are 45–59 years old, male, high school graduate, and unemployed. Pearson correlation analysis revealed significant positive relationships between healthcare workers’ roles (p = 0.000; r = 0.689), and PMOs (p = 0.000; r = 0.664) with medication adherence. The results indicate that healthcare workers, and PMOs play a vital role in supporting TB patients’ recovery and serve as a foundation for strategies aimed at improving adherence. Their ability to provide continuous education, supervision, motivation, and emotional support helps enhance adherence, reduce relapse and drug resistance risks, and prevent further disease transmission. Tuberculosis patients are expected to be disciplined in taking medication and communicating with health workers or PMO if they experience obstacles so that treatment is successful.
