Abstract

This study aims to analyze the use of deictics in student interactions at the campus of Dharmas Indonesia University (UNDHARI) using a pragmatic approach. Deictics are linguistic elements whose meaning depends on the speaker’s context, as well as the time and place of the utterance. The study employs a qualitative descriptive method with data collection techniques including observation, recording, note-taking, and unstructured interviews. Data analysis involves identifying types of deictics and analyzing their usage. The results indicate that Undhari students use five types of deictics: personal, temporal, spatial, discourse, and social deictics. The use of these types of deictics reflects social relations, communicative situations, and the level of familiarity among speakers. Furthermore, the understanding of deictic meaning is significantly influenced by context. This study is expected to contribute to pragmatic studies and enhance awareness of appropriate language use in communication.

Abstract

This study aims to identify and describe forms of social criticism in the short story “Mahasiswa Tio” by Arie MP Tamba using a sociological approach to literature. The method employed is a descriptive qualitative method, with the short story text serving as the data source, analyzed through the techniques of reading, note-taking, and data classification. The results of the study indicate that the short story contains several forms of social criticism, namely (1) criticism of student demonstrations as a form of resistance against a corrupt government, (2) criticism of opportunistic and greedy behavior among the public during chaotic situations, and (3) criticism of the violent consequences arising from demonstrations, such as the loss of life among students and the general public. These findings demonstrate that literary works can serve as a medium for social reflection that depicts societal realities and acts as a vehicle for criticism of social and political conditions. These findings indicate that literary works can serve as a medium for social reflection that portrays societal realities and acts as a vehicle for critiquing social and political cond

Abstract

This study aims to develop an e-module based on the Game-Based Learning (GBL) model for Indonesian language instruction, specifically on procedural text material for seventh-grade students at MTs Negeri 1 Tebo. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) method using the ADDIE model, which consists of five stages: Analyze, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The needs analysis revealed that students were bored with monotonous learning methods and preferred fun, game-based approaches. Based on these findings, the researcher developed an interactive GBL-based e-module using Canva and converted it into a digital flipbook format. The developed e-module was validated by three experts—subject matter, media, and language experts—with an average score of 88%, categorized as very valid. Practicality was assessed through questionnaires distributed to teachers and students, yielding scores of 82% and 91.8% respectively, both categorized as very practical. Effectiveness was evaluated through post-tests, showing that 85,51% of students achieved the minimum mastery criteria, indicating that the e-module is highly effective for learning. In conclusion, the GBL-based e-module developed in this study is valid, practical, and effective for use as instructional material in Indonesian language learning, particularly for procedural text topics.
