Abstract

Normal menstrual cycles occur every 25-30 days, with the length of menstruation with an average cycle duration of 28 days. If the menstrual cycle is less than 21 days or more than 35 days, it is considered a cycle of irregular menstruation. Irregular menstruation is caused by changes in female hormone levels associated with health behavior, obesity, stress, and physical activity. This study aimed to describe the pattern of the menstrual cycle in final-year female students of the Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sriwijaya. The research design used a cross-sectional study with a total study population of 144 people. Data were obtained from questionnaires filled out by students via the Google form and then analyzed using the chi-square test. The results of the study showed that most students experienced normal menstrual cycles, as much as 62.1%. The most common menstrual disorder experienced by female students was dysmenorrhea, as much as 61.3%. Based on the chi-square test, it was found that there was no relationship between physical activity and the menstrual cycle (p=0.648). In conclusion, there is no relationship between physical activity and the menstrual cycle.

Abstract

Visual inspection of acetic acid (IVA) is a simple method of detecting abnormal cell changes in the cervix (cervix) that may indicate the presence of precancerous lesions or cervical cancer. Factors such as stigmatization, myths or false beliefs associated with the examination, or taboos against examining the female reproductive organs may hinder participation. This study aimed to determine the factors that influence women's participation in VIA examinations at the Kebonsari Health Center, Surabaya, Indonesia. This study was qualitative observational research. Extracting information is done by interviewing research respondents. The results of the in-depth discussion found a number of factors that contributed to the lack of participation in IVA activities at the Kebonsari Health Center, Surabaya, Indonesia. The problem of human resources is a factor that is believed to play a role in the lack of participation of respondents in IVA activities at the Kebonsari Health Center, Surabaya, Indonesia. Respondents complained that they often had difficulty getting VIA examination services due to the absence of implementing staff at the Health Center location. In conclusion, the human resources implementing IVA services and the lack of respondents' knowledge of the IVA program are the main factors in the low participation of women in the IVA program at the Kebonsari Health Center, Surabaya, Indonesia.

Abstract

Depression is a kind of mental disorder. It is a risk factor for many diseases. Recently, it has been suggested to contribute to the high mortality rate, especially for young-middle ages. The incidence of depression is studied to be associated with sleep-style change that leads to internal circadian rhythm disruption. The circadian rhythm is related to the light-dark cycle of the sun. Dusk and dawn twilight are an important part of internal circadian rhythm synchronization. These moments correlate with the praying time of Muslims. A socio-spiritual approach could be a potential treatment for depressive disorder. At praying time for Muslims, the synchronization process of circadian rhythm is happening so that, hopefully, circadian disruption will resolve. This review aims to understand the impact of circadian rhythm on depression and its potential for depression treatment in the future.

Abstract

The aging process can cause changes in physical, cognitive, and social aspects. Some seniors may experience memory problems, speech difficulties, or hearing difficulties. These factors can affect their ability to communicate effectively, especially in a medical environment that is often complex and full of technical terms. In addition to physical challenges, older adults may also face feelings of loneliness, social isolation, or feelings of being unappreciated. This study aimed to explore the principles and strategies of effective therapeutic communication in interacting with the elderly. The literature search process was carried out on various databases (PubMed, Web of Sciences, EMBASE, Cochrane Libraries, and Google Scholar) regarding therapeutic communication in the elderly. This study follows the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-Analysis (PRISMA) recommendations. Therapeutic communication with the elderly is a communication approach that is empathetic, caring, respects patient autonomy, and uses language that is simple, clear, and easy to understand. Honesty and openness in conveying information about health conditions and prognosis are also important. Avoid giving false hope, but keep focusing on efforts and steps that can be taken to improve the quality of life for the elderly.

The analysis of this research is the observation of the service process flow with value stream mapping, distributing questionnaires, Borda method to search waste critically, 5why interviews to find the root cause of waste criticism and suggestions for solving problems. The results showed that the critical waste that occurred was waste waiting with a percentage value of 23.41%. The root cause of waste waiting is the accumulation of prescription queues at the preparation, dispensing delivery of drugs, and PIO stages due to a lack of pharmaceutical technical personnel. The proposed improvement in waste waiting is to increase the number of pharmacy officers by first calculating the workload.

Abstract

A liver abscess is a form of infection in the liver, which is characterized by the presence of pus covered by fibrous tissue in the liver parenchyma. The two most common types of liver abscesses are pyogenic and amebic abscesses, which are usually found in the right lobe of the liver. This study aimed to report cases of liver abscesses that occurred in the left lobe of the liver, with non-specific complaints. The patient came with complaints of a swollen abdomen, pain in the upper right abdomen, and intermittent fever. Radiological examination in the form of a CT scan confirmed the diagnosis of a left lobe hepatic abscess. The patient was treated with an abscess drainase per laparotomy. No complications were found during and after surgery. Open abscess drainase by laparotomy combined with antibiotic therapy is a safe and effective therapeutic approach in such cases.

Abstract

Globally, it is estimated that 15-20% of all births, or >20 million newborns each year, are low birth weight babies. Low and middle-income countries have a fairly high burden of LBW. The incidence of low birth weight in Papua is highest in the city of Jayapura. Namely, with a birth rate of 5,142 there are 169 incidents of LBW, while in Mappi city, with a birth rate of 2532, there are 80 incidents of low birth weight, and this is still quite high. This study is research descriptive analytics with a planned cross-sectional study. The population in this study is all patients with chronic energy deficiency at the Senggo Health Center were 61 respondents taken from January to February 2023 with a total sample of 53 obtained using simple random sampling. The results showed that there is a relationship between chronic lack of energy in pregnant women with the incidence of low birth weight at the Senggo Health Center with a value of p=0.007<< α=0.05. So it can be concluded that pregnant women who experience chronic energy deficiency will be at risk of giving birth to babies with low birth weight.
