Abstract

This study is motivated by the gap between the ideal concept of good governance and the practice of managing school infrastructure, which remains limited in terms of participation, transparency, accountability, and the effectiveness of its implementation at the secondary school level. This research aims to analyze the application of good governance principles in the management of school infrastructure to improve educational quality. The methodology used is a qualitative case study design at Sekolah Menengah Atas Negeri 1 Terusan Nyunyai, employing interview, observation, and documentation techniques, along with data analysis that includes condensation, presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study indicate that infrastructure management has been carried out in a participatory manner by involving all stakeholders in planning and evaluation, is transparent through the disclosure of budget information and the use of digital technologies such as ARKAS, and is accountable through a systematic, well-documented reporting system. In addition, school independence is reflected in its ability to make decisions based on internal needs without external intervention, and in accountability conducted in accordance with applicable regulations. The implementation of these principles has been proven to improve the effectiveness of facilities and infrastructure management and to support the continuous improvement of educational service quality. Thus, the application of good governance in school infrastructure management effectively increases efficiency, transparency, and educational quality. This study is significant as a practical model of good governance-based infrastructure management that can serve as a reference for other schools in improving educational quality.

Abstract

Pesantren leadership plays a crucial role in the success of Tahfizhul Qur’an education, particularly in shaping students’ motivation to consistently memorize the Qur’an. At the Tahfizhul Qur’an Syuhada Islamic Boarding School, effective leadership practices are considered decisive for the quality and sustainability of the tahfizh program. Although many pesantrens implement leadership grounded in religious values, empirical studies examining how a religious-participatory leadership strategy can enhance students’ motivation in a local context remain limited. This study aims to analyze the pesantren leadership strategies in increasing students’ motivation in the Tahfizhul Qur’an program. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed, with data collected through interviews, observations, and documentation involving the pesantren leader, tahfizh supervisors, and students, and analyzed using an interactive data analysis model. The findings indicate that the pesantren leader applies a religious-participatory leadership style that emphasizes exemplary conduct, direct involvement in the tahfizh program, and the internalization of spiritual values. Students’ motivation is enhanced through spiritual encouragement, personal guidance, recognition of memorization achievements, and a structured, consistent tahfizh program. The study concludes that effective pesantren leadership significantly determines students’ motivation, discipline, and responsibility in maintaining Qur’anic memorization. These findings provide practical guidance for developing humanistic, religious, and sustainable tahfizh leadership models in other pesantrens.

Abstract

Moral education at Sekolah Dasar Negeri Kencong 01 is crucial for character development; however, limited time for Islamic Religious Education and the heterogeneity of students' characters hinder the effectiveness of teacher-student collaboration. This study aims to explore the meaning of collaborative experiences between teachers and students in moral development through character education practices at Sekolah Dasar Negeri Kencong 01. Using a qualitative phenomenological approach, the research examines the essence of these experiences and validates data through triangulation to ensure credibility. The results show that student moral formation occurs holistically through the habituation of daily values, teacher role models as moral exemplars, participatory collaborative practices, and the integration of religious activities. Success is influenced by the synergy between school and family, as well as the dynamics of supporting and limiting factors, such as learning time constraints and diverse student characteristics. Effective collaboration strengthens value internalization, making moral education not merely normative or cognitive, but deeply internalized through concrete experiences and consistent interactive relationships. In conclusion, student morality is shaped through teacher-student collaboration, modeling, and the integration of values into daily life. This study highlights the importance of real-life experiences, teacher exemplars, and school-family collaboration in fostering student moral development.

Abstract

The low level of students’ religious skills and the limited research on the effectiveness of IMTAQ programs in shaping Islamic character in schools have become important concerns. This study aims to analyze the implementation of the IMTAQ program and its contribution to improving religious skills and character formation among secondary school students. The research employed a qualitative descriptive approach through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation involving the principal, supervising teachers, and eleventh-grade students at Sekolah Menengah Atas Al-Ma’shum Sidodadi Kisaran. The findings indicate that the IMTAQ program, conducted weekly, effectively improves students’ Qur’anic reading abilities, Islamic public speaking skills, and religious character development. Activities such as Qur’anic recitation (tilawah), religious lectures, and Islamic arts foster students’ self-confidence and discipline in worship. The program’s success is supported by the principal’s commitment, active teacher involvement, adequate facilities, and students’ enthusiasm. The main obstacles include weather conditions, limited teacher time, and differences in students’ confidence levels. The IMTAQ program also strengthens the school’s religious culture by fostering the consistent, sustainable habituation of Islamic values in students’ daily activities. In conclusion, the IMTAQ program effectively enhances students’ religious skills, Islamic character, and spiritual culture through structured religious activities within the school environment. This study offers an applicable Islamic character education model as a best practice for spiritual development in religion-based secondary schools.
