Abstract

This study applies Fairclough's Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) to examine how parental authority and adolescent autonomy are represented in media coverage of Nikita Mirzani's forced pickup of her daughter Lolly. A single Batamnewsasia article was selected for its in-depth portrayal of the conflict between parental control, teenage independence, and public scrutiny of family disputes. The analysis employs both Fairclough's four-step CDA framework — identifying the social wrong, its obstacles, the sustaining social order, and possible resolutions — and his three-dimensional framework encompassing textual analysis, discursive practices, and socio-cultural practices. This approach reveals how language implicitly constructs power relations and ideologies, and how media discourse shapes public perception of the parties involved. Findings indicate that Nikita Mirzani is framed as a protective, loving parent, while Lolly is portrayed as emotionally vulnerable and lacking the capacity for independence. The incident, which became the subject of court proceedings, generated divided public reactions that reflect broader societal tensions around family authority, child protection, and adolescent rights. The media's selective reporting and framing actively shaped these reactions rather than merely reporting them. This study concludes that media discourse does not neutrally reflect social reality but actively constructs it by reinforcing particular ideological positions. The contrasting portrayals of mother and daughter illustrate how news texts navigate and reproduce contested values surrounding parental power and teenage autonomy, ultimately influencing how the public interprets family conflict within the Indonesian media landscape.

Abstract

The rapid advancement of digital technology often traps the younger generation in consumptive media use that lacks educational substance. This community service program aims to strengthen digital literacy and historical awareness among the foster children of Al-Maa'uun Orphanage in Wangon, Banyumas, through prophetism-based digital storytelling. Grounded in Muhammadiyah's prophetic values—humanization, liberation, and transcendence—the program utilized direct mentoring and structured training. Conducted in February 2026, the implementation involved twenty-seven children and three caregivers over two face-to-face sessions. The method encompassed historical internalization, short scriptwriting, and technical video production using smartphones and accessible editing software. The evaluation, utilizing pre-testing, post-testing, and interviews, revealed a significant escalation in the participants' cognitive capacity, self-confidence, and digital literacy skills. The children successfully produced and published short, meaningful audio-visual works that encapsulated local historical narratives and Islamic virtues. Ultimately, this empowerment initiative effectively transformed digital devices from mere entertainment tools into strategic cultural instruments. It established a resilient digital literacy ecosystem within the orphanage, enabling the children to actively participate in cultural preaching and ensuring the preservation of the institution's collective memory amidst the modern digital landscape. The rapid advancement of digital technology often traps the younger generation in consumptive media use that lacks educational substance. Abstract

The transition from virtual to hybrid learning during the pandemic has decreased student engagement. This challenges educators to find innovative strategies for post-pandemic classrooms. This study investigated the impact of virtual poster exhibitions through Padlet on student engagement in EFL classes. Participants were 40 undergraduate students majoring in non-English at a private university in Indonesia. The participants were selected based on convenience sampling. Using a qualitative research design, data were collected through open-ended questionnaires and classroom observations. Thematic data analysis was then used to uncover patterns of student engagement. The results showed that virtual poster exhibitions on Padlet significantly increased student engagement across emotional, social, and cognitive dimensions. More specifically, students reported increased feelings of self-actualization, enjoyment, comfort, and motivation to actively participate in EFL learning activities. Padlet's learning-supporting features, such as opinion-based voting and peer feedback, created a constructive learning dynamic. The study concluded that Padlet facilitated virtual poster exhibitions by lowering affective filters, thereby creating a comfortable learning environment. The implications of this research are to encourage educators to maximize the use of digital collaborative platforms to build active learning environments. Recommendations for future research include exploring the use of Padlet to facilitate virtual poster exhibitions with a larger sample size to validate its impact in other learning environments.

Abstract

The digital transformation and global complexities of the 21st century have necessitated a reform in educational management to become more adaptive, collaborative, and innovative. This study aims to systematically review the models and strategies of 21st-century educational management that have proven effective in enhancing learning quality and institutional performance. The review adopts a systematic literature review (SLR) method, examining 47 peer-reviewed national and international journal articles published between 2015 and 2025. These articles were selected through purposive sampling based on inclusion criteria such as topic relevance, publication quality, and focus on contemporary educational management contexts. The data were thematically analysed to identify trends, patterns, and best practices in educational management. The findings reveal that the most prominent and impactful strategies include transformational leadership, technology-driven management, personalised learning, instructional leadership, and systemic approaches. These findings highlight that flexibility, collaborative leadership, and technological integration are key to effectively responding to the dynamics of modern education. The study also underscores the importance of local context, infrastructure readiness, and human resource competence in the successful implementation of managerial strategies. The conclusion drawn from this review emphasises that no single model is universally applicable; the success of educational management is significantly influenced by the synergy between adaptive policy, visionary leadership, and cross-sectoral support. The study recommends the development of evidence-based education policies, continuous managerial training, and the strengthening of collaborative networks among stakeholders to create an inclusive, responsive, and sustainable learning ecosystem.

Abstract

The increasing use of artificial intelligence (AI) in higher education has created new opportunities to support students in producing more appropriate academic communication, particularly in online interactions with lecturers. This study investigated English as a Foreign Language (EFL) students’ perception of using ChatGPT to support pragmatic acceptability in academic online messaging, focusing on tone, politeness, formality, and contextual appropriateness. The study involved 100 undergraduate students from the English Language Education Study Program at Universitas Tanjungpura who had experience using ChatGPT to compose or revise English messages intended for lecturers. A descriptive quantitative design was employed using a questionnaire developed based on the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) framework. The collected data were analysed using descriptive statistics, including mean scores and standard deviations. The findings revealed that students generally held positive perceptions of ChatGPT in supporting pragmatic acceptability in academic online messaging. Among the UTAUT constructs, Facilitating Conditions obtained the highest mean score (M = 4.305), followed by Performance Expectancy (M = 4.128), Overall Perception (M = 4.125), Effort Expectancy (M = 4.003), and Social Influence (M = 3.610). These findings suggest that ChatGPT can serve as an accessible tool for supporting students' pragmatic awareness and digital academic communication when used critically as a complementary writing aid.

Abstract

Pregnancy is accompanied by various physiological changes that frequently cause lower back pain during the third trimester, affecting maternal comfort and quality of life. Evidence-based prenatal education is essential to help pregnant women manage these discomforts through safe and effective non-pharmacological interventions. This study aimed to describe the implementation of prenatal yoga education as an evidence-based approach to improving maternal well-being in a third-trimester pregnant woman. A case report design was employed involving one pregnant woman who received continuity of midwifery care at Ibrahim Adjie Community Health Center, Bandung, Indonesia, from July to November 2025. The intervention consisted of prenatal yoga education integrated into comprehensive antenatal care, including body mechanics, breathing techniques, stretching exercises, muscle strengthening, and relaxation practices. Data were collected through observation, physical examination, documentation, and continuous evaluation throughout pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum, newborn care, and family planning services. The findings demonstrated that regular participation in prenatal yoga education reduced lower back pain intensity, improved maternal comfort, enhanced physical and psychological readiness for childbirth, and supported a normal pregnancy and delivery without complications. The integration of evidence-based prenatal yoga education into continuity of midwifery care provides an effective educational strategy for promoting maternal well-being and strengthening pregnant women's self-management skills during the third trimester. These findings highlight the importance of incorporating evidence-based health education into maternal healthcare services to improve pregnancy outcomes.

Abstract

This study investigated the learning media preferences and cognitive learning strategies used by high-achieving English learners in informal English learning outside the classroom. Employing a qualitative case study design, the study involved three participants from the English Education Study Program, batch 2022, at Universitas Tanjungpura, selected through purposive sampling based on a grade point average of at least 3.70, a TOEFL score of at least 520, and verified English-related achievements. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and documentation, then analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings reveal three themes. First, participants preferred video-, audio-, and text-based media, with video being the most dominant due to its multimodal nature. Second, participants applied four cognitive strategies, namely inferencing, translation, resourcing, and note-taking, flexibly based on content difficulty and individual habits. Third, learning media and cognitive strategies were interconnected, with media providing language input and strategies enabling meaningful processing of that input. These findings suggest that informal English learning among high-achieving learners is an active, self-directed, and cognitively engaged process that also contributes to their academic development.
