Abstract

This study examines the representation of gender discrimination experienced by African-American women in the film Hidden Figures. It aims to identify the forms and impacts of workplace discrimination faced by the main character, Katherine Goble Johnson. Grounded in Black Feminist Theory as articulated by Patricia Hill Collins, this qualitative study employs descriptive analysis. Data were obtained through close textual analysis of the film, supported by relevant scholarly literature, including journals, articles, theses, and credible online sources. The findings reveal that Katherine Goble experiences multiple forms of discrimination, including gender-based exploitation, limited access to promotion, wage inequality, racial segregation, and unequal treatment within a predominantly white, male-dominated work environment. Despite these constraints, the film portrays her resilience, professional competence, and intellectual contribution, emphasizing that her value as an employee is defined by merit rather than gender or race. The study highlights how Hidden Figures reflects broader structural inequalities in the workplace and underscores the ongoing struggle for gender and racial equality.

Abstract

This study examines the intellectual structure and research evolution concerning Perceived Organizational Support, Job Satisfaction, and Organizational Citizenship Behavior within the domain of organizational psychology. The study aims to identify dominant themes, conceptual relationships, and emerging trends in the literature related to these constructs. The data set consisted of 124 scientific publications retrieved from the Scopus database using predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria and a systematic screening procedure. The research employed a qualitative approach with a Systematic Literature Review design combined with bibliometric analysis. Data collection was conducted through structured database queries, while data analysis utilized Vosviewer to visualize keyword co-occurrence, thematic clusters, and research development patterns. The findings reveal that Perceived Organizational Support, Job Satisfaction, and Organizational Citizenship Behavior represent central and consistently interconnected themes in the literature. Several supporting constructs, including commitment, trust, organizational justice, and relational dynamics, were also identified as integral components of the conceptual network. Overlay and density visualizations indicate that the field demonstrates a stable yet evolving research trajectory, with the integration of contemporary variables without displacing foundational constructs. The study concludes that these three constructs remain theoretically and empirically significant within organizational psychology and contribute to understanding positive workplace behavior. The implications of this study emphasize the importance of organizational and psychological factors in shaping employee attitudes and discretionary behaviors.

Abstract

This study aimed to identify challenges and strategies in preparing an English musical drama performance by Islamic boarding school students as English as a Foreign Language (EFL). Data were collected through interviews, document analysis, and questionnaires. The results of the study indicate that there are linguistic challenges for participants, especially in terms of pronouncing dialogues and script texts that must be read fluently. In addition, students also face non-linguistic challenges outside of the language aspect that can have a significant impact on the preparation process, implementation, and final results of the performance. To overcome language barriers, guidance from educators, tiered exercises, intensive repetition, use of audiovisual references, and directed discussions are provided. Meanwhile, non-linguistic challenges were addressed through psychological support, optimal practice time management, application of a structured practice approach, and the use of video imitation techniques and creativity in adapting to resource limitations. Although there are still limitations, several strategies have proven effective. Overall, this drama performance is not only a medium for learning and showing off the students' learning outcomes, but also a means of instilling Islamic values that are in line with the goals of Islamic boarding school education.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the impact of leadership on employee work motivation and to investigate the role of the work environment as a moderating variable in this relationship. A quantitative approach with a descriptive correlational design was employed for this research. Data were collected through a questionnaire administered to 50 BAZNAS Garut District staff members selected via total sampling. Data analysis was conducted using moderation regression with the assistance of statistical software. The findings indicate that leadership has a positive and significant effect on work motivation. Furthermore, the work environment has been shown to enhance the relationship between leadership and work motivation. The implications of these findings highlight the importance of developing effective leadership styles and creating a conducive work environment to boost employee morale in the Islamic philanthropy sector.

Abstract

The ability to communicate effectively in English is a critical skill for university students navigating increasingly globalized academic and professional contexts. Beyond linguistic accuracy, 21st-century learners are expected to master the 4Cs: Critical thinking, Communication, Collaboration, and Creativity. However, traditional English-speaking instruction often emphasizes rote learning and accuracy, neglecting these broader competencies. This study explores how a multi-voiced classroom approach can empower 4Cs-based English speaking among students in the International Undergraduate Program (IUP) at Undiknas University. Using a qualitative descriptive design, data were collected through in-depth interviews with six IUP students who experienced multi-voiced English-speaking activities, including debates, peer-led discussions, and storytelling tasks. Thematic analysis revealed five key outcomes: enhanced confidence and reduced speaking anxiety, strengthened critical thinking skills, improved collaboration, greater creativity in spoken expression, and increased intercultural awareness. The findings suggest that the multi-voiced classroom fosters a psychologically safe environment that encourages active participation, supports co-construction of meaning, and promotes holistic communicative competence. This integrative approach aligns with global educational goals to produce graduates who are not only proficient in English but also adaptive, critical, collaborative, and creative thinkers. The study offers practical insights for language educators aiming to design more inclusive and competency-based speaking curricula in higher education.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop and test the feasibility of a diagnostic instrument for assessing students' critical thinking skills on socio-scientific issues (SSI) in physics education with the topic of global warming. This objective is motivated by the lack of valid, reliable, and contextually appropriate assessment instruments based on Socio-Scientific Issues (SSI) in physics education at the secondary school level, amid the low critical thinking competencies of Indonesian students as indicated by the 2018 PISA survey, and the need for an SSI approach as an effective strategy. The research method employs a research and development (R&D) design using the ADDIE model. The instrument was developed in the form of 20 essay questions based on SSI contexts and its validity was reviewed by experts and tested on 75 students from two high schools in rural and urban areas. Data were analyzed using Rasch modeling with the assistance of WINSTEPS software. Expert validation results showed that the instrument was categorized as “Highly Suitable.” Rasch model analysis confirmed the instrument's unidimensionality (raw variance explained by observed measures: 30.9%). The analysis results showed that all items were deemed fit (Outfit MNSQ: 0.78–1.28; ZSTD:–1.51 to 1.81; and PTMEA Corr: 0.26–0.68). The instrument's reliability is high, with a Cronbach's alpha of 0.81, person reliability of 0.80, and item reliability of 0.91, using a structurally valid rating scale. However, significant DIF based on gender and region was found, indicating the need for further revision to ensure measurement fairness. This instrument is deemed valid and reliable for use as a diagnostic tool for critical thinking skills in SSI-based physics learning.
