Abstract

Strategic management is an important element in ensuring the sustainability and relevance of Islamic education institutions amid the dynamics of global change. This article aimed to analyze the strategic management of Islamic education with a focus on the role of vision, mission and synergy as the foundation in creating strategic change. This research uses the literature study method to examine key concepts in Islamic education strategic management and their practical applications. The results show that vision provides an inspiring long-term direction, mission defines the main goals that distinguish the institution, while synergy enables effective coordination between organizational elements to achieve common goals. These three elements, when strategically designed and implemented, are capable of creating significant change that supports institutional transformation. The article also identifies key challenges that Islamic education institutions often face, including resistance to change, lack of coordination and limited resources, and offers strategic solutions to overcome them. By building synergy between vision, mission and implementation strategies, Islamic education institutions can optimize their role in responding to the needs of the times without abandoning their fundamental values. This study is expected to be a reference for Islamic education managers in developing innovative and sustainable strategies.

Abstract

Technology-based Islamic curriculum reform is a long-term project that needs to be managed through a detailed strategy. To create this strategy, the management team must analyze the current situation by conducting a thorough environmental scan and by identifying gaps between the current state and the desired program. To be implemented, this new program vision will need to rely on creating several potential ways to produce optimal solutions, which may involve some form of innovation. It is true, to generate the most promising ideas, an environment conducive to reflection and experimentation is needed. Throughout the analysis, decision-making and implementation phases, specific activities need to be organized to involve school members. Additionally, these high-impact projects need to include a parallel change management strategy to account for expected human resistance, both individual and collective (internal culture). This article proposes methods and some concrete actions to help leaders and managers support the development and implementation of new and innovative curricula to promote and support the advancement of local professional practice.

Abstract

This present study is devoted to exploring the use of address forms and vocatives-diminutives in Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë, with a focus on the way the use of language portrays the dynamic between the main characters and their emotions as well as their interpersonal relationships. With the help of a framework introduced by Klaus P. Schneider (2003) that captures diminutives as pragmatic speech act modifiers, the aim of the study is to identify specific types of vocative-diminutives and how they are used, with particular attention paid to Heathcliff, Catherine Earnshaw, and Edgar Linton's utterances. Through the use of a qualitative analysis method and library research, this study examines the chosen chapters of the novel by looking closely at the text and categorizing them according to their uses of diminutives in vocative, synthetic, and analytic forms. According to the results of the study, 27 diminutive forms are identified, and the most prevalent use of diminutives is the use of vocative full names, with seven instances. Following this, analytic vocative-diminutives are present six times, and synthetic vocative-diminutives could be found five times. In the meantime, vocative first names, vocative kinship terms, and vocative titles are all present twice, respectively. In addition, diminutive first names occur twice as well, whereas diminutive full names do not occur nearly as frequently, with only one instance.

Abstract

This study examined the impact of principal supervision and teacher training on the pedagogical competence of educators at State Islamic Senior High Schools (Madrasah Aliyah Negeri) in Pekanbaru, Indonesia. Employing a quantitative research design, data were collected through surveys administered to teachers across several institutions. The findings reveal that both principal supervision and teacher training exert a significant and positive influence on teachers’ pedagogical competence. Principals’ supervisory practices, when carried out systematically through guidance, feedback, and evaluation, play a pivotal role in enhancing instructional quality. Similarly, targeted and continuous professional training programs equip teachers with the knowledge and skills necessary to adapt to contemporary pedagogical demands, including technology integration and innovative teaching methodologies. The results underscore a synergistic relationship between supervision and training, with statistical analyses indicating that these variables, both independently and collectively, contribute substantially to the development of pedagogical competence. Teachers who receive consistent supervisory support and participate in relevant training demonstrate improved capabilities in lesson planning, classroom management, student assessment, and instructional delivery. These findings highlight the importance of institutional strategies that prioritize sustained supervisory engagement and structured teacher development initiatives as critical pathways for improving teaching effectiveness and educational quality within the madrasah system.

Abstract

This paper explored how Tahmima Anam’s A Golden Age reimagines women’s roles in wartime through the lens of postcolonial feminist theory. Centering on the character Rehana Haque, a mother navigating the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War, the analysis highlights how motherhood, emotional labor, and trauma become politicized forms of resistance. Drawing on theoretical insights from Chandra Talpade Mohanty, Gayatri Spivak, Veena Das, and others, the study demonstrates how Rehana’s domestic and relational actions challenge dominant, masculinist narratives of nationalism. The paper argues that Rehana’s maternal identity is a site of situated agency, where caregiving and emotional endurance serve as political acts that sustain revolutionary efforts. Furthermore, the novel critiques the symbolic ideal of the “mother of the nation,” replacing it with a complex portrayal of lived experience, grief, and resilience. By foregrounding the gendered dimensions of trauma and memory, this study contributes to feminist and postcolonial literary criticism and calls for a redefinition of heroism that includes the emotional and domestic labor of women during national struggles.

Abstract

The obligation to wear the jilbab (Islamic veil) in classical Islamic discourse has often led to uniform and authoritarian dress codes, particularly within Islamic educational institutions. This article proposes a new perspective on the concept of jilbab by referring to Muhammad Shahrur’s theory of hudud, which distinguishes between the minimum (hadd al-adna) and maximum (hadd al-a‘la) boundaries of Islamic law. This framework serves as a foundation for more flexible and contextual interpretations.Using qualitative analysis and literature review methods focused on Qur’anic verses An-Nur (24):31 and Al-Ahzab (33):59, this study explores how Shahrur’s thought can be applied to formulate inclusive Islamic educational policies—legally, pedagogically, and socio-culturally. The findings demonstrate that the hudud approach encourages critical and responsible interpretations of Islamic dress, offering opportunities to reform uniform policies, strengthen ethical values, and develop religious curricula that are responsive to social dynamics and gender equality issues.

Abstract

This study explored the impact of language contact on written languages through the case study of Chinese character borrowing in Naxi Manuscripts. Drawing from four primary corpora spanning religious, medical, and divinatory genres, the study identifies 11 frequently borrowed Chinese characters and 301 instances of borrowing through a combination of optical character recognition (OCR) and manual verification. The borrowing is in three types: phonetic, semantic, and graphic borrowing. Through two proposed indicators,  "Borrowing Breadth" and "Borrowing Density", the study quantifies the extent of borrowing for different genres. Results show that medical texts exhibit the highest level of Chinese character borrowing, reflecting the extensive interaction between Naxi and Han in this field. In contrast, religious texts display the lowest borrowing rate, possibly due to their earlier composition and limited cross-cultural contact at the time. Phonetic borrowings and semantic borrowings significantly outnumber graphic borrowings, revealing that the functional features of characters were prioritized over their abstract visual forms. This paper not only expands the research on the language contact between Naxi and Han but also shows the important role of genres in linguistic integration and exemplifies how language contact can lead to script evolution.

Abstract

English proficiency at the elementary level in Indonesia remains relatively low, particularly in the Kalianda region of South Lampung, Sumatra. This issue has become a pressing concern ahead of the mandatory English policy for elementary schools starting in the 2027/2028 academic year. Indonesia’s score in the 2024 EF English Proficiency Index, ranked 80th out of 116 countries, underscores the urgency of renewing teaching methods. Currently, conventional approaches such as lectures and rote memorization dominate, while technology-based methods, including Augmented Reality (AR), are scarcely implemented at the primary education level, especially in Kalianda. The primary objective of this study is to develop and implement AR-based learning media to enhance the comprehension and retention of English materials among third-grade elementary students in Kalianda, South Lampung. The study employs a Research and Development (RnD) approach using the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). The research subjects comprised 134 third-grade students from five elementary schools in Kalianda, selected through cluster sampling. The AR application is developed by considering the distribution of basic English materials and an age-appropriate user experience for elementary students. Findings indicate that AR enhances comprehension and retention by providing interactive, multi-sensory experiences that support differentiated learning. Low-performing students achieved substantial improvements, while higher-performing students advanced further. No declines in scores were observed, highlighting AR’s effectiveness in creating an engaging, safe, and motivating learning environment that fosters meaningful, long-term learning outcomes.
