Abstract

The purpose of this study is to identify and analyze several key references regarding tourist experience and destination image. This research is a systematic literature review using the Scopus-based science citation index. Based on several stages of the systematic review method, this study found 41 key references from Scopus indexed journals. This study also examined citation behavior based on quartile and cite score. This study found that the journal sustainability Switzerland is the journal that discusses the most about tourism experience and destination image. However, most of the articles are published in business and management journals and also journals are published in the field of tourism, while for the country of origin of researchers, the United Kingdom is the most dominant country of origin of researchers followed by researchers from China and the United States. Thus, there are opportunities for further research in the context of tourism. This study contributes to further research and makes a significant contribution in answering research questions or addressing issues in the field of tourism.

Abstract

The research aims at analyzing factors affecting the implementation of the quality tourism paradigm by tourism villages. A tourism village is a community-based tourism which offers a rural tourism experience. The research was carried out in the context of strategy formulation post-COVID-19 pandemic. The research specifically portrays the shifting paradigm from quantity to quality tourism development which takes place partly in response to the pandemic. There are concepts and theories taken from the marketing and human resource management, that is, the branding concept, the Theory of Reasoned Action, and the commitment theory to enrich tourism study. The research is quantitative-causal research. This study selected the research locus in the three tourism villages in the Special Region of Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Data was collected through a survey. Data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modelling. The results of this study show that: 1) Level of awareness, Perceived importance, and Influence of other stakeholders positively affect commitment. 2) Level of awareness and Perceived importance positively affect Resource allocation, 3) Influence of other stakeholders has no effect on Resource allocation, and 4) Commitment positively affects Resource allocation.  The research results lead to strategies for managing community-based tourism destinations to offer a quality tourism experience.

Abstract

The aim of this paper outlines four urgent reason for tourism to follow up on national targets. In the SDGs document, one of the benchmarks for economic intensity is actualized in the function of tourism in boosting welfare. Using a descriptive approach, secondary data is sourced from government publications, as illustrated by pillar 8 “Decent Work and Economic Growth”. Then, the investigation was converted to IKN (PPU) and 2 zones around IKN (Balikpapan-Kutai Kartanegara) with a frequency of 6 years. With the panel evaluation, several varied estimates were found. First, in parameter 1 (proportion of tourism contribution to GRDP), parameter 2 (number of foreign tourists), and parameter 3 (volume of domestic tourist visits), all the regions analyzed do not meet the SDG target. Second, in parameter 4 (foreign exchange or similar income from tourism), Kukar and Balikpapan have reached the standard, but PPU does not meet the criteria designed by the government. The expectations of this manuscript inspire stakeholders to resolve inequalities in the tourism sector, particularly in inter-line collaboration. Advanced academic studies can adopt or consider existing research through fresher thinking. The broader implications emphasize the maximum tourism potential in IKN.

Abstract

Homestay is one of the mandatory accommodations in a tourist village. Optimal homestay management is a guide for every tourist to get comfort during their stay. This study aims to examine the performance of homestays in the tourist village of Kulon Progo through three variables: product, service and management. This study used a quantitative descriptive approach, with scoring and reduction data analysis techniques. The research samples were 11 tourist villages in Kulon Progo. Purposive sampling technique was used to select tourist villages based on their categories. The results showed two homestay class categories, namely classes 1 and 2. Product variables have the highest performance, while service and management have almost the same performance and are still relatively low. Performance indicators that are considered to be still low, namely digital-based services and administration. The performance of the homestay is often not in line with the classification of tourist villages. The survey results show advanced tourism villages have lower homestay performance than the pioneer and developing tourism villages. The research implication provides an overview of homestay performance in Kulonprogo as a reference in improving homestay standardization.

Abstract

This research explains the transformation of Rumah Gadang in the Traditional Village of Nagari Sijunjung. Rumah Gadang is an embodiment of Minangkabau culture both in place and space and is one of the characteristics of an ideal sociocultural life. But over time, Rumah Gadang has changed its function to become an inn on the tourism agenda. This certainly raises the question of what is the definition of Rumah Gadang for Minangkabau people today. Through observation methods, in-depth interviews and utilizing previous writings, the phenomenon of Rumah Gadang in the Traditional Village of Nagari Sijunjung which is used as an inn and tourist destination through the concept of rural tourism is examined. The results show that Rumah Gadang is not only a place, but functions as a space in carrying out social, economic and cultural life. The transformation of Rumah Gadang to lodging causes some social and cultural functions to be limited but economic functions increase. These two sides of the coin are the intertwining that is happening in the Traditional Village of Nagari Sijunjung where culture and tourism are packaged together. In the end, economic factors through the tourism industry make the survival of Rumah Gadang for Sijunjung people.

Abstract

The issue of sustainability has become the focus of attention of practitioners, governments and researchers in all contexts, including the tourism sector, so it is important to examine the impact of one form of tourism sustainability, namely community based tourism (CBT) on tourists' desire to revisit tourism destinations. This study aims to examine perceptions of CBT performance on satisfaction and its impact on revisit intention and word of mouth (WOM) intention. This research uses primary data by distributing questionnaires online. The characteristics of the respondents in this research are people who have visited tourist destinations in DI Yogyakarta. A total of 168 respondents were collected. Data were analyzed using structural equation models using SmartPLS 3.2.9 software. The tests carried out consisted of testing the measurement model and testing the inner model. The research results show that the performance of community based tourism (CBT) has a significant effect on tourist satisfaction, tourist satisfaction has a significant effect on intention to revisit, and tourist satisfaction has a significant effect on word of mouth. The results of this research suggest that tourism developers and the government can collaborate and regularly measure CBT performance so that they continue to provide pleasant services and experiences to tourists so that tourists visit again and even voluntarily invite other people to visit tourist destinations.
