Abstract

Isoflurane is an inhalation anesthetic agent commonly used in clinical practice for the induction and maintenance of general anesthesia. Isoflurane has a depressant effect on the central nervous system, working by increasing the activation of inhibitory GABA receptors and reducing excitatory synaptic transmission. One of the key factors affecting the level of isoflurane exposure in the operating room is the room ventilation and air filtration system. Poor ventilation in the operating room can cause the concentration of anesthetic gases, such as isoflurane, to accumulate in the air, increasing the risk of exposure to health workers. Ineffective or inadequate ventilation systems may not be able to remove anesthetic gases released during surgical procedures, which can ultimately result in isoflurane exposure at hazardous levels. The purpose of this study was to identify and analyze the risk of health problems due to isoflurane exposure and to develop effective risk management to minimize the impact of isoflurane exposure on health workers in the operating room of RSIA Ananda and to analyze the existing operating room standards in the operating room of RSIA Ananda. The type of research that will be used in this study is quantitative research using a cross-sectional design. This study was conducted in the Operating Room of Ananda Mother and Child Hospital, Makassar from October to November 2024. The population and sample were all health workers on duty in the operating room of Ananda Mother and Child Hospital, which was 45 health workers. The results of this study indicate that of the 45 respondents who always use PPE and experience health problems such as nausea, which is 62.5% and with a P Value of 0.0612> 0.05, have never been exposed to isoflurane and experience nausea as much as 37.5% with a P Value of 0.030 <0.05, health workers who have worked for 1-5 years have a higher percentage of nausea, which is 66.7% with a P Value of 0.066> 0.05. While the age group 25-34 years as many as 70.8% experience nausea with a P Value of 0.0590> 0.05. The conclusion of the statistical analysis shows a significant relationship between the duration of isoflurane exposure and health problems in health workers, while the use of PPE, age and length of work do not have a significant relationship.

Abstract

The process of premature aging of the skin is an inevitable biological phenomenon, characterized by changes in the structure and function of the skin due to internal factors (intrinsic) such as genetics and external factors (extrinsic) such as exposure to UV rays, pollution, and free radicals. This study aims to analyze the role of natural antioxidants in delaying the process of premature aging of the skin through the mechanism of protection against oxidative damage caused by free radicals. This research method uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive method with data sources in the form of literature reviews by examining various relevant scientific studies related to the study. The results of this study indicate that consuming foods rich in natural antioxidants plays a significant role in slowing the process of premature aging of the skin. Antioxidants such as vitamin C, vitamin E, flavonoids, and polyphenols have been shown to be effective in fighting free radicals, reducing inflammation, and repairing damage caused by exposure to UV rays and pollution. Research also reveals that antioxidants can help maintain skin moisture, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, and brighten dull skin. These results emphasize the importance of choosing a diet rich in antioxidants to maintain skin health and delay premature aging, strengthening the argument that skin care based on natural nutritional intake can provide long-term benefits for skin appearance .

Abstract

suppurative otitis media (CSOM) is a middle ear infection that requires effective treatment to prevent serious complications. Treatment of CSOM involves two main methods, namely topical therapy applied directly to the area of infection to relieve local symptoms such as discharge and pain, and oral therapy that works systemically through the bloodstream to treat more extensive infections. This study uses the Literature method Review with Narrative design Review, collecting data from online sources such as Google Scholar and E- Perpusnas with the keywords " Chronic Suppurative Otitis Media," " Topical Therapy," and "Oral Therapy." The literature reviewed was limited to journals published in the last five years (2019–2024) to ensure the relevance of current data. The review results showed that topical therapy is more effective for local symptoms, while oral therapy is more suitable for cases with systemic complications. A combination of both may be an optimal choice depending on the severity of CSOM and the patient's response to treatment.

Abstract

Upper respiratory tract infections (URTI) are common in children and often trigger complications like ear infection that can affect hearing and development . This study aims to analyze the relationship between URTI and ear infections in children through a qualitative literature review . The findings suggest that URTI, particularly viral infection like nasopharyngitis , can disrupt the function of the Eustachian tube, increasing the risk of ear infections . Other risk factors , such as the child's age , air pollution , and exposure to second hand smoke , also worsen this condition . Raising parental awareness about early detection and management of URTI, along with preventive measures like vaccination and maintaining a healthy environment , can help reduce ear infection incidence .

Abstract

Menstruation is a natural biological process that occurs in females during their reproductive years. However, many young girls lack adequate knowledge about menstruation, leading to fear and misconceptions. This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of health education through video on improving knowledge about menstruation among elementary school students. A pre-experimental one-group pre-test post-test design with proportional random sampling was employed. The study involved 38 female students from SD Negeri 2 and SD Negeri 4 Penebel in April 2024. Data was collected using a questionnaire. The Shapiro-Wilk test was used to assess normality due to the small sample size (n<50). The p-value (p>0.05) indicated normal distribution of the knowledge scores. The mean score before health education was 58.68. The mean scores for posttest week 1 and week 2 were 82.89 and 87.24, respectively. Statistical analysis revealed a significant difference in knowledge scores (p=0.000), demonstrating the effectiveness of the health education intervention. The study highlights the importance of health education in improving knowledge about menstruation among elementary school students. Schools should incorporate menstruation education into their curriculum to empower girls with accurate information and dispel misconceptions.
