Abstract

The facilitative effect of teacher support on students’ consequential learning outcomes has been validated across student populations at all levels. However, few studies have explored the mediating mechanisms between teacher support and learning engagement, especially in English as a foreign language (EFL). The present study seeks to explore whether achievement emotions mediated the relationship between teacher support and learning engagement in learning EFL. Data were collected from 527 Chinese secondary EFL learners in Grades 7 and 8 through convenience sampling. Results of structural equation modelling (SEM) and mediation analysis showed that perceived teacher support was significantly associated with foreign language (FL) achievement emotions. FL achievement emotions, in turn, predicted learning engagement. These findings add to the evidence base for the beneficial effect of teacher support on EFL learners’ learning engagement. Implications and directions for future studies are discussed

Abstract

This study aims to determine the conception of digital culture among young citizens. Digital culture is a citizen's ability to read, analyze, familiarize, examine, and form national insights, Pancasila values, and diversity in social life. Indicators of this digital culture include understanding national culture (Pancasila and Bhineka Tunggal Ika), understanding the use of information and communication technology in culture, understanding how to love domestic products as part of defending the country, and having digital rights in which there is freedom and responsibility. This research departs from citizen communication patterns that have begun to transform into digital forms. This pattern has various impacts, both positive and negative. This pattern is then studied in the concept of digital citizenship. Digital citizenship requires moral principles to work effectively in a global society that is networked, multicultural across time and geographical areas. Citizenship requires balancing personal empowerment and responsibility with the well-being of society. The good of the individual and the good of society must be in balance. This research uses a type of quantitative approach with descriptive methods. This descriptive method is used to describe or analyze a research result but is not used to make broader conclusions. Respondents to this study were young citizens at the Tarbiyah and Teacher Training Faculty of IAIN Syekh Nurjati Cirebon who attended digital literacy outreach and filled out a questionnaire, totaling 105 respondents. Then the results of the research found that 25% really understood, and 48% understood. The percentage shows that students already understand digital culture well as young citizens.

The design of the study was a descriptive survey design. The population of the study was one thousand, two hundred and two respondents (1,202). The study covered the entire country of Nigeria, which is divided into 6 geopolitical zones comprising of 15 training centres. The sample for the study was two hundred and seventy-two respondents, which was purposefully selected. The instrument for data collection was a structured questionnaire developed by the researcher. The collected data was analysed using mean and standard deviation, and hypotheses were tested using the t-test and ANOVA. The result revealed that the fifteen (15) objectives are highly appropriate for the training of automobile mechanics in the informal sector on maintenance and repairs of vehicles in Nigeria. Human resources at the training centres are highly adequate for the implementation of NADDC training programmes for automobile mechanics in the informal sector on maintenance and repairs of vehicles in Nigeria. One of the suggestions was that a workshop be set up to teach the trainers how to use the materials given, since most machines, tools, or instruments are very computerized. NADDC training programme graduates should be closely monitored for further training and retraining to meet the challenge of modern technologies and innovations in automobiles
