Abstract

Pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease affecting the respiratory system. Non-pharmacological interventions such as the Pursed-Lips Breathing (PLB) technique and the therapeutic Semi-Fowler position are used to improve ventilation and enhance oxygen saturation, but evidence regarding the effectiveness of these interventions remains limited. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze and compare the effectiveness of PLB, Semi-Fowler position, and their combination in improving oxygen saturation among pulmonary TB patients. This quasi-experimental study was conducted with four groups: PLB, Semi-Fowler, Combination, and Control, each consisting of 45 participants (total N = 180). Oxygen saturation levels were measured before (pretest) and after intervention (post-test). Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test to assess pretest – post-test changes within each group and the Kruskal Wallis test to compare differences between groups. Results: Significant increases in oxygen saturation were observed in the PLB group, Semi-Fowler group, and the Combination group (p < 0.001), whereas no significant change in the Control group (p = 0.097). The greatest improvement occurred in the Combination group, with a mean post-test oxygen saturation of 96.04%, followed by the PLB group (95.62%) and the Semi-Fowler group (95.49%). There were significant differences among the four groups (p < 0.001). The highest proportion of patients achieving normal oxygen saturation was observed in the Combination group (88.9%). Conclusion: PLB, the Semi-Fowler position, and their combination therapy are effective in improving oxygen saturation among pulmonary TB patients, with the combined intervention yields the most optimal outcome

Abstract

Background: Caring is fundamental to professional nursing practice and identity. However, limited research has examined the caring personality trait among Indonesian nursing students and nurses. Methods: This cross-sectional study examined these traits and analyzed subgroup differences among nursing professional students and clinical nurses using the Inventori Kepribadian untuk Ners–Praktis (IKUN-P). The IKUN-P demonstrated strong internal consistency (Cronbach’s alpha 0.824–0.902). Data were collected from 488 participants across three Indonesian regions through convenience sampling. Results: The majority of participants were female (72.75%) and 25 years old or younger (46.31%). Among the five traits assessed, optimism had the highest mean score (33.29 ± 4.75), reflecting a generally positive outlook. Emotional intelligence the lowest mean score (30.48 ± 4.83), indicating a potential area for educational and professional development. Analysis identified significant regional differences in emotional intelligence (p=0.046), optimism (p=0.043), emotional stability (p=0.007), and personal integrity (p=0.004). Most traits did not differ by age, gender, education, work experience, or respondent type (p>0.05). Limitations of the study include its cross-sectional design, self-report measures, and convenience sampling. Conclusion: The results indicate that programs promoting emotional intelligence and optimism could support caring behavior and professional performance among nursing students and nurses.

Abstract

Background: Early menopause is characterized by hormonal decline, sleep disturbances, psychological distress, and diminished quality of life. Aim this study is developed and evaluated the feasibility and preliminary outcomes of an integrated intervention comprising phytoestrogen-based nutrition, Damask rose aromatherapy, and self-efficacy–based psychological support for women experiencing early menopause. Methods: An exploratory sequential mixed-methods design was implemented in Boyolali Regency, Central Java, Indonesia, from July to September 2025. The research process included needs assessment, intervention development, expert validation, pilot testing, and qualitative evaluation. Thirty-two women with early menopause participated in a four- week, one-group pretest–posttest intervention. Quantitative data were analyzed using paired t-tests or Wilcoxon signed-rank tests, and qualitative data were examined through inductive thematic analysis. The intervention was associated with improvements in several physiological and psychological outcomes. Result: Estradiol levels increased significantly (p = 0.021), HDL levels improved (p = 0.046), and fasting blood glucose decreased (p = 0.012). Significant improvements were also observed in sleep quality (p = 0.002), psychological distress (p < 0.05), menopause-related quality of life (p = 0.019), and menopause self-efficacy (p = 0.001). Conclusion: Qualitative findings demonstrated high acceptability of the intervention and identified perceived benefits, including relaxation, improved sleep, emotional adaptation, and increased confidence in managing menopausal symptoms. These pilot results indicate that an integrated intervention combining phytoestrogen-based nutrition, Damask rose aromatherapy, and self-efficacy–based psychological support is feasible and associated with improvements in hormonal, metabolic, sleep-related, and psychological outcomes among women with early menopause.

Abstract

Background: Identity formation represents a key aspect of psychosocial development during adolescence. In the three- dimensional model, identity comprises commitment, in-depth Methods: A descriptive analysis design with a cross-sectional approach was employed. Sample selection was conducted in two stages using cluster and purposive sampling methods. Results: Adolescent identity was assessed using the Utrecht Management of Identity Commitments Scale. The association between socio-demographic factors and adolescent identity status was analyzed using the Chi-square test. The findings indicate that adolescents demonstrated high commitment, moderate in-depth exploration, and low reconsideration of commitment. Most adolescents were in a moratorium stage, while a smaller proportion had achieved identity status. Conclusion: Identity status was influenced by gender, family type, maternal employment status, and school location. These findings suggest that adolescent commitment remains malleable.

Abstract

Background: Diabetes mellitus is a chronic condition requiring continuous self-management. Appropriate self-care practices are essential for glycemic control and prevention of complications; however, local evidence on educational interventions remains limited. This study aimed to determine the effect of diabetes self-care management education on self-care activities among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods: A quasi-experimental, one-group pretest–posttest design was used. Forty patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus who met the inclusion criteria were recruited. Self-care activities were assessed using the Summary of Diabetes Self-Care Activities (SDSCA) before and after the educational intervention. Result: The mean SDSCA score increased from 4.89 to 6.12 after the intervention, showing a statistically significant improvement (p < 0.001). Conclusion: Diabetes self-care management education improved self-care activities among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Clinically, this intervention may support routine diabetes care by strengthening patient engagement in daily disease management. Nevertheless, the one-group design limits causal interpretation because no control group was used. Future studies with controlled design and larger samples are recommended.

Abstract

Background: As of 2026, hypertension, often referred to as the "silent killer," has reached unprecedented prevalence globally Methods: This pilot study utilized a pra-experimental pre-post-test design without a control group. Total sampling was employed, resulting in a sample size of 35 participants. The Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test was used to assess the effects of a boiled bay leaf-honey mixture on blood pressure Result: The intervention significantly reduced mean systolic blood pressure from 151.49 mmHg to 144.83 mmHg (p=0.018). In contrast, the reduction in diastolic pressure (84.89 mmHg to 83.29 mmHg) was not statistically significant (p=0.158). Conclusion: The findings indicate that this intervention may benefit elderly patients or those with isolated systolic hypertension (ISH). By significantly lowering systolic pressure without inducing unstable diastolic fluctuations, this decoction may serve as a safe complementary therapy to reduce cardiac workload in geriatric populations.

Abstract

Background: Postpartum anemia and delayed uterine involution may hinder maternal recovery and increase postpartum morbidity. Angkak (Monascus purpureus-fermented red rice) contains iron, amino acids, antioxidants, and bioactive compounds that may support hemoglobin synthesis, erythropoiesis, and tissue repair. However, evidence regarding its use among postpartum mothers remains limited. Aim this study to assess changes in uterine involution and hemoglobin levels among postpartum mothers after consuming angkak infusion. Methods: A quasi-experimental one-group pre–post study was conducted among 25 postpartum mothers. Participants consumed 3 g of angkak infused in 150 mL of warm water daily for 14 days. Fundal height was measured on postpartum days 1, 7, and 14, while hemoglobin levels were assessed on days 1 and 14. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test and paired sample t-test. Result: Mean fundal height decreased from 16.84 cm on day 1 to 11.80 cm on day 7 and approximately 7–8 cm on day 14. Mean hemoglobin levels increased from 10.42 g/dL to 11.72 g/dL. Both changes were statistically significant. No adverse effects were reported during the intervention. Conclusion: Daily angkak infusion for 14 days was associated with improved uterine involution and increased hemoglobin levels among postpartum mothers. However, due to the absence of a control group, causal conclusions cannot be established. Further controlled studies with larger samples are recommended.

Abstract

Background: Breast milk represents the optimal source of infant nutrition, supplying all nutrients essential for growth and development. The study evaluated the effect of Moringa oleifera leaf infusion on breast milk flow among postpartum mothers in the Tilango Public Health Center service area. Methods: A quasi-experimental design employing a non-equivalent control group pre–posttest approach was implemented. 30 mothers (2–3 weeks postpartum) were selected via purposive sampling and assigned to either the intervention or control group. The intervention group received 150 ml of Moringa oleifera leaf infusion twice daily for seven days, while the control group received standard care without Moringa oleifera leaf infusion. Breast milk production was measured using an observation checklist and analyzed using the Wilcoxon test with a significance threshold of 0. Before the intervention, all participants in both groups demonstrated inadequate breast milk flow. Result: Following the intervention, 86.7% of mothers in the intervention group achieved adequate milk production, compared to 6.7% in the control group. Statistical analysis indicated a significant improvement in the intervention group (p = 0.001). Conclusion: Moringa oleifera leaf infusion was associated with improved breast milk flow in postpartum mothers, indicating potential as a supportive intervention. However, these findings should be considered preliminary due to the small, non-randomized sample.

Abstract

Background: Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) among pregnant women continues to pose a significant public health challenge in Indonesia, increasing risks for both maternal and fetal health. This study analyzed the compliance of pregnant women at risk of CED with the Supplementary Feeding (PMT) program and explored the potential of local foods as alternative supplements. Methods: A descriptive qualitative approach was employed from October to December 2023 at the Parung Panjang Public Health Center in Bogor Regency. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews with nine informants, including five pregnant women at risk of CED, two healthcare professionals (a nutritionist and a midwife), and two community health volunteers. Thematic analysis was used, and findings were validated through source triangulation. Results: Results indicated that non-compliance with the PMT program was primarily due to distribution barriers, reporting gaps, and sensory fatigue. The findings indicate that local food-based supplementary feeding may be acceptable to pregnant women with CED and could serve as an alternative to manufactured biscuits. Cassava and catfish were identified as promising raw materials because of their abundant availability and compatibility with local dietary practices. Conclusion: Further product development and intervention studies are recommended to assess nutritional adequacy, acceptability, adherence, and effectiveness.

Abstract

Background: Fatigue is a common concern among adolescents with Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus (T1DM) and may affect their quality of life and disease management. However, the relationship between fatigue, quality of life, and self-efficacy remains insufficiently understood. This study aimed to examine the relationship between fatigue and quality of life and self-efficacy among adolescents with T1DM. Methods: A cross-sectional correlational study was conducted with 110 adolescents aged 10–19 years with T1DM. Diabetes-related quality of life was assessed using the PedsQL Diabetes Module, fatigue using the Short Fatigue Scale, and self-efficacy using the Pediatric Rating of Chronic Illness Self-Efficacy (PRCISE) scale. Spearman correlations and Chi-square tests were used for analysis. Results: The results showed that 82.7% of participants experienced fatigue, with 17.3% categorized as having severe fatigue. Fatigue was moderately negatively correlated with quality of life (r = −0.547, p < 0.001) and self- efficacy (r = −0.475, p < 0.001). A significant association was also found between gender and fatigue level (p = 0.029), with severe fatigue reported more frequently among females (24.2%) than males (8.3%). Conclusion: Fatigue among adolescents with T1DM is associated with lower quality of life, lower self-efficacy, and gender differences. Self-efficacy may play an important role in reducing fatigue and supporting adolescent well-being.
