Abstract

This study aims to answer why some students are more successful than others in mastering a second language and why one person seems to learn faster than the other even though both are in the same situation. This research is qualitative descriptive. The researcher interviewed five English teacher to find out the difference in the ability of students to master the second language, from those who only attended formal learning at school and took part in informal learning outside of school. The question consists of five questions. Because second language acquisition (L2) is a very complex process, there is no model that captures all its aspects. The researcher summarized the results of interviews with five English teachers, because the results of the interviews were almost the same. Based on the results of the study, it shows that students who only attend formal learning at school are different from students who are also supported by informal learning outside of school. Like taking a course, and also helping parents. Students who only study the second language at school will be slower in the process of obtaining a second language.

Abstract

This study explores the relationship between language challenges and accounting education in the S1 AccountingProgram at Universitas Muhammadiyah Metro. Using a meticulous mixed-methods approach involving language assessments, surveys, and focus group discussions, the research examines students' perceptions of language barriers. The findings emphasize the role of tailored English learning materials in addressing these challenges, enhancing language proficiency, and boosting students' confidence in comprehending complex accounting content.Collaboration between language instructors and accounting experts is highlighted as a key factor in achieving effective integration. The study also underscores the broader relevance of this approach, aligning with the evolving demands of the global business landscape and improving students' employability. The study offers practical recommendations for institutions, students, educators, and researchers to address language challenges holistically and foster specialized discipline proficiency. By implementing these suggestions, stakeholders can bridge the language-discipline gap and cultivate graduates skilled not only in their chosen field but also in effective cross-disciplinary communication. Ultimately, this research contributes to the discourse on integrating language and specialized education, presenting practical avenues for implementation.

Abstract

This study investigates the transformative impact of integrating locally rooted English language learning materials for history education students at FKIP Universitas Muhammadiyah Metro. Drawing from a collaborative approach involving language educators and history experts, the materials incorporate historical narratives and cultural insights to enhance linguistic proficiency and cultural appreciation. Findings reveal significant improvements in students' language skills, including vocabulary acquisition, grammatical accuracy, and language fluency. Moreover, the materials fostered a deeper connection to cultural heritage, instilling cultural pride and sensitivity. This resonates with the broader discourse on the positive correlation between cultural integration and language education outcomes. The collaborative approach aligns with scholarly recommendations for interdisciplinary collaboration, resulting in materials that are both linguistically rigorous and culturally authentic. The validation process underscores the materials' credibility and effectiveness in bridging language learning and cultural immersion. This study contributes to innovative pedagogical practices that unite linguistic competence with cultural understanding, shaping learners equipped to navigate a globalized world while honoring their cultural heritage.

Abstract

Technological developments in the era of the industrial revolution 4.0 affect everything, including the education sector. The national education sector must be ready for major changes in the face of current technological developments. MTs Nurul Qomar Tawangrejo are very supportive of utilizing digital media as English language learning so that they provide complete facilities and infrastructure, especially internet access as a major component in the sustainability of digital-based learning. With the complete facilities and infrastructure, it makes it easy for teachers and students to do learning. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method, data analysis is carried out through three stages, namely data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The purpose of this research was to find out and analyze the utilization of digital media as English language learning facilities and infrastructure at MTs Nurul Qomar Tawangrejo. After adapting to distance learning which uses digital media, it has now become commonplace and even makes it easier for teachers to carry out the learning process, so MTs Nurul Qomar Tawangrejo is increasingly maximizing the utilization of digital media as English language learning facilities and infrastructure. Through digital media, it can provide various facilities for teachers and students to carry out learning.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to find out the effect of using short stories through wattpad on reading comprehension achievement at the tenth grade science of Man 1 Metro. Wattpad is an application-type social media platform for people who want to read or write stories. This research used quasi experimental design. The subject of this research is the tenth grade science students at Man 1 Metro year 2023. The result data analysis indicates that value t obtained is higher than the value of t table (2.990>2.042). And the significant 0.004 is lower than 0.05. The conclusion is teaching English using short stories through wattpad is effective to increase students’ reading comprehension.
