Abstract

The study examined the relationship between insecurity and assessment practices in universities in Katsina State, Nigeria. The study adopted a correlation research design. The population was made up of 14,963 final-year students in the two public universities in Katsina State. A sample of 372 students from two universities was used for this study. This sample size was determined by cluster random sampling techniques. The instruments for data collection were sets of constructed rating scales titled Insecurity Rating Scale (IRS), Lecturers Instructional Assessment Procedure Scale (LIAPS), and Students’ Test-taking Practice Scale (STTPS). The rating scales were validated by three specialists in Educational Measurement and Evaluation for face and content validity before administering them to the respondents. The reliability of the instruments was established at 0.76, 0.78, and 0.77 for IRS, LIAPS, and STTPS respectively using the Cronbach alpha statistic. The research questions were answered with PPMCC while the hypotheses were tested with simple linear regression at a 0.05 level of significance. It was found among others that there is a very low correlation between insecurity and assessment practices in universities in Katsina State. This indicates that as insecurity increases, assessment practices decrease in universities, showing a converse link between the variables. It was recommended that since insecurity negatively affects assessment in universities, the state and federal government should ensure that security officers are provided in the universities to improve Lecturers' instructional assessment.

Abstract

The primary objective of this descriptive study was to find out the students’ assessment of teaching among college teachers during the first semester of the academic year, 2021-2022. Based on the findings of the study, it is very consoling to note that the college faculty of Notre Dame of Tacurong College had remained steadfast in their commitment to carrying out the vision and mission of the institution to offer quality education to its clientele. This was evident that even in difficult times, their effort to adjust to the new normal mode of teaching and learning is noteworthy. The overall result is inspiring. However, the school can still do many things to improve or increase the knowledge of the college teachers on innovative methods of teaching to promote student learning. The approachability of teachers can be strengthened to help students in need of guidance to do their classwork correctly. Another recommendation is to conduct the same study in the middle of a term so that student feedback on teachers’ performance in delivering the lessons can be addressed immediately. In addition, it should be conducted with individual teachers and their specific subjects being taught.

Abstract

The effect of scaffolding instructional technique and gender on academic performance and retention of senior secondary school Islamic Studies students in Katsina State, Nigeria was investigated in this study. The study's goal was to look at the academic performance of male and female Senior Secondary School II (SSSII) Islamic studies students in Katsina State who were exposed to a scaffolding instruction teaching technique and to see how well they retained the information. To provide direction for the investigation, two research questions and two matching hypotheses were raised and formulated. The investigation was carried out using a quasi-experimental research design. A sample of forty students comprising 17 males and 23 females were selected from Family Support Senior Secondary School Daura using intact class. Data was collected using a validated instrument titled: the Islamic Studies Achievement Test (ISAT) with a reliability coefficient of 0.68. The data were analyzed with descriptive statistics such as mean and standard deviation, as well as an independent sample t-test. When male and female students were exposed to the teaching strategy, the results revealed no significant differences in academic achievement. Because scaffolding education is gender friendly, it is advised that Islamic studies teachers adopt and implement it in secondary schools.

To gather data, the researchers used a balance sheet study published by the State Bank (SBP) on a sample of 6 major companies out of a total of 21, and they used regression, correlation, and ANOVA to examine the factors influencing capital structuring in the cement industry from 2013 to 2017. The results showed that other than earning, which takes a negative association with leverage in business, all criteria listed have a favorable impact on leverage. The firm will be able to assess its capital structure needs to be based on debts and equity with the use of this research. Additionally, it will enhance students, researchers, and managers' knowledge of capital structuring.

Abstract

This study investigated Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) as predictors for quality instructional delivery among teaching practice undergraduates in Oyo state. A descriptive survey research design was used for the study and the population was 1286 teaching practice undergraduates at Kola Daisi University. The sample size of 291 was determined using Krejcie and Morgan sampling table. A five-point rating scale questionnaire validated by experts was used for data collection. The measurement of the internal consistency method was used to establish the reliability of the instrument and the application of Cronbach Alpha yielded reliability coefficients of 0.97 and 0.87 for the two sections and overall reliability of 0.90. Frequency tables and Pearson product-moment correlation were used to answer research questions. ICT usage among teaching practice undergraduates is high; the level of quality instructional delivery among teaching practice students is high while there was a significant relationship between the two variables. Based on the findings, teaching practice students and polytechnic lecturers should be more equipped with ICT facilities to aid more in their teaching experiences. It was, therefore, recommended that management and various stakeholders should be sensitized to provide schools with the required infrastructural ICT facilities to enhance effective educational service delivery through quality teaching and learning.
