Abstract

Determinant Factors of Harvest Labor Productivity in Oil Palm (Elaeis guineensis) Plantation at PT Danar Rimba Raya. Oil palm plantations play a strategic role in Indonesia’s economy by contributing significantly to export earnings and rural employment. However, productivity challenges in labor-intensive harvesting activities remain a critical issue affecting production efficiency and sustainability. This study aims to analyze the productivity of harvest workers and identify the factors influencing it at PT Danar Rimba Raya Pelantaran Estate, Kotawaringin Timur Regency, Central Kalimantan. In 2024, the company’s production realization reached only 80% of the target, with a worker attendance rate of 90%. A descriptive quantitative approach was employed using a census method involving 24 harvest workers. Data were collected through questionnaires, field observations, and interviews, and analyzed using multiple linear regression. The results show an adjusted R² value of 0.958, indicating that 95.8% of productivity variation was explained by the model. Partial test results revealed that work experience had a significant negative effect (β = –0.217; p < 0.05), while incentives had the strongest positive influence on productivity (β = 0.632; p < 0.01). Other variables, including age, motivation, tool availability, and work environment, were not statistically significant. These findings emphasize the importance of performance-based incentive systems and adaptive labor management strategies to enhance productivity in the oil palm plantation sector.

Abstract

Growth and Yield Response of White Radish (Raphanus sativus L.) to the Application of Rabbit Urine and KCl Fertilizer in PMK Soil. Radish (Raphanus sativus L.) is a root vegetable of the Brassicaceae family, closely related to cabbage. Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency of West Kalimantan (2021), the productivity of radish in West Kalimantan in 2020 decreased compared to the previous year. Increasing radish production can be achieved through agricultural intensification using Podsolik Merah Kuning (PMK) soil (Ultisol). The main problem of PMK soil is its low fertility. One way to improve the chemical properties of PMK soil is to apply organic fertilizer, namely rabbit urine liquid fertilizer, and inorganic fertilizer, namely KCl. This study aimed to determine the best concentration of rabbit urine and the most effective dose of KCl fertilizer for the growth and yield of white radish in PMK soil. The research was conducted in the experimental field of the Faculty of Agriculture, Tanjungpura University, Pontianak City, from September 15 to October 30, 2024. The experiment used a factorial completely randomized design with two factors. The first factor was rabbit urine concentration (U) at three levels: u1 = 20 ml/L, u2 = 40 ml/L, and u3 = 60 ml/L. The second factor was the KCl fertilizer dose (K) at three levels: k1 = 0.8 g/plant, k2 = 1.2 g/plant, and k3 = 1.6 g/plant. The results showed no interaction between rabbit urine concentration and KCl fertilizer on the growth and yield of white radish in PMK soil. Individually, rabbit urine at 20 ml/L and KCl fertilizer at 0.8 g/plant gave the best results on radish tuber length. However, no optimal and effective dose was found to significantly improve the growth and yield of white radish in PMK soil.

Abstract

Inventory and Analysis of Barriers to Increasing Areca Nut Productivity in Sungai Kakap District, Kubu Raya Regency. Areca nut productivity in Kubu Raya Regency is relatively low, at around 0.86 tons/ha, compared with the national average of 1.53 tons/ha. This indicates that there are still many problems in areca nut farming in Kubu Raya Regency. Based on this, research is needed to inventory and analyze obstacles to increasing areca nut productivity, with the results informing recommendations for policy interventions in Kubu Raya Regency. The research was conducted in Punggur Besar Village, Sungai Kakap District, Kubu Raya Regency, and is a descriptive study using a survey method with respondents as research objects. Primary data were collected using a questionnaire to obtain systematic, objective information on farmer characteristics, technical, economic, and external obstacles experienced in running areca nut farming, while secondary data were obtained from relevant agencies and the literature. The results of the study concluded that areca nut farming in Sungai Kakap District, Kubu Raya Regency is still faced with various obstacles, namely: (1) farmers' limited access to information and technology about good and correct areca nut cultivation, (2) farmers can only sell dried areca nuts to collectors at low prices, (3) farmers do not have access to other sources of financing besides their income, and (4) the role of institutions has not been fully felt by farmers, there has been no special guidance and ongoing technical assistance regarding areca nut farming including its financing.

Abstract

Screening of Ganoderma Antagonistic Fungi from Palmae Roots in Kubu Raya Regency, West Kalimantan, Indonesia. Basal stem rot (BSR) disease, caused by the pathogen Ganoderma sp., is the most important disease in palms (Arecaceae, formerly known as Palmae). To date, there is no effective method for controlling Ganoderma. In oil palms, several methods developed can only slow the rate of infection or extend the plant's productive period. Biological control is an alternative method for controlling Ganoderma and is currently under development. However, the development of biological control is hampered by its limited distribution. The most feasible approach is to identify effective indigenous antagonists from the rhizosphere of palms and develop methods for their utilization. This is because the palm family is a group of plants with high species diversity, so it is suspected that they also have a high diversity of rhizosphere fungi. Therefore, it is suspected that there are fungi antagonistic to Ganoderma that can be used as biological control agents against Ganoderma sp. This effort can be done by isolating and screening microorganisms from the rhizosphere of palm plants for their ability to act as antagonists against Ganoderma, and testing their activity in the rhizosphere of palm plants under various combinations of environmental factors thought to support their effectiveness in controlling Ganoderma. Specifically, this research aims to identify Ganoderma antagonists from the rhizosphere of palm plants in West Kalimantan that are effective in controlling BPB disease. The research has been conducted by isolating and testing the ability of fungi from the roots of palm plants in West Kalimantan in controlling Ganoderma sp. The results showed that 50.97% of fungi isolated from palm roots inhibited Ganoderma growth in vitro, with inhibition ranging from 70% to 83%. Given this ability, further testing is needed to determine the effectiveness of these fungi in controlling stem rot disease caused by Ganoderma in palm plants.

Abstract

Japanese cucumber (Cucumis sativus L. var. Japanese) is a type of vegetable from the Cucurbitaceae family or gourd family. There are several types of cucumbers, one of which is the Japanese cucumber (kyuri), which is longer than regular cucumbers, has a slender fruit shape, soft flesh, smooth skin, and a greener color. The limited agricultural land results in the use of suboptimal land, which poses problems for nutrient availability, such as podsolic reddish-yellow soil (PMK). This study aims to determine the effect of the interaction between humic acid and NPK fertilizer on the growth and yield of Japanese cucumber plants in Reddish-Yellow Podsolic soil (PMK). The research was conducted in Kasromego Village, Beduai sub-district, Sanggau District, from June to September 2024. The design used was a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) split plot with 2 factors. The first factor is humic acid, which consists of 2 levels: H0 = without humic acid and H1 = with the addition of humic acid. The second factor is NPK fertilizer, with 3 levels: P1 = 6 g/plant, P2 = 12 g/plant, P3 = 18 g/plant. Research results show a significant interaction between humic acid and NPK fertilizer on fruit weight per plant and fruit length. The best combination is achieved with the application of humic acid and NPK fertilizer at a dose of 12 g/plant, resulting in the highest fruit weight and length.

Abstract

This study explores the key factors influencing partnership patterns between pepper farmers and collecting traders in the Entikong border area, West Kalimantan. Agricultural activities in border regions are often constrained by limited access to markets, capital, and infrastructure, making informal partnerships an important support system for farmers. The purpose of this research is to identify the key elements that shape and maintain these partnerships based on farmers’ perceptions. The study used a qualitative approach with primary data collected from 50 pepper farmers selected through purposive and quota sampling. Data were gathered through structured interviews using a Likert-scale questionnaire and analyzed descriptively by calculating mean and standard deviation to assess the level of importance of each variable. The results show that commitment is the most dominant factor in sustaining partnership relationships, followed by trust, which strengthens long-term cooperation. Communication and cooperation were considered moderately important in supporting coordination and information sharing, while conflict management and perceived partnership value were rated lower. Overall, the study highlights that strong commitment, supported by trust and consistent interaction, is essential for maintaining stable partnerships and provides empirical evidence on relational dynamics within agricultural systems in border areas.

Abstract

Shallot (Allium cepa L.) is a high-value horticultural commodity, but its production in West Kalimantan remains low. The use of extensive peatlands could increase production. However, cultivation on peat soil is constrained by low fertility and high acidity. This study aimed to determine the effects and identify the optimal interaction dose between rice husk biochar and NPK fertilizer on shallot growth and yield on peat soil. The experiment was conducted at the Experimental land of the Faculty of Agriculture, Tanjungpura University, from November 2024 to February 2025 using a factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with two factors. The first factor was rice husk biochar applied at three levels: 10, 20, and 30 tons/ha. The second factor was NPK fertilizer at three levels: 200 kg/ha, 300 kg/ha, and 400 kg/ha. Nine treatment combinations were tested with three replications and four plant samples per replication, resulting in a total of 108 observed plants. The results showed no significant interaction between biochar and NPK across all observed variables. Application of rice husk biochar at 30 tons/ha significantly affected plant height, number of bulbs per clump, fresh and air-dry bulb weight, and plant dry weight, but had no significant effect on the number of leaves. NPK fertilizer at 200 kg/ha significantly affected only the number of leaves.

Abstract

Human Capital Determinants of Oil Palm Harvester Productivity: Evidence from Panel Data Analysis. Human Capital Determinants of Oil Palm Harvester Productivity: Evidence from Panel Data Analysis. Harvester productivity is a key determinant of operational performance in oil palm plantations, where variations in individual output reflect differences in human capital characteristics. This study aims to examine the effects of human capital, represented by age, length of service, and regional origin, on oil palm harvester productivity. The research was conducted at PT Karunia Kencana Permaisejati, Central Kalimantan, using monthly panel data from December 2024 to November 2025 covering 118 harvesters. A panel data regression approach with a random effects model was employed to capture both individual and temporal variations. The results indicate that age has a positive and statistically significant effect on productivity, suggesting that accumulated experience enhances work efficiency, although the magnitude remains limited due to physical constraints. In contrast, length of service has a negative and significant effect, revealing a non-linear relationship characterized by diminishing productivity beyond an optimal tenure period. Regional origin also significantly influences productivity, with harvesters from East Java outperforming others. These findings confirm that human capital plays a crucial but non-linear role in determining labor productivity and contribute to the literature by providing panel-based empirical evidence to support more effective workforce management strategies in plantation systems.

Abstract

Analysis of the Effect of Rainfall on the Productivity of Oil Palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) in High-Rainfall Environments in Sei Dadap District, Asahan District, North Sumatra.  Oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.) is one of Indonesia's main plantation commodities, and its productivity is influenced by various environmental factors, including rainfall. Rainfall plays a crucial role in meeting plants' water needs to support growth, photosynthesis, and fruit formation. However, excessive rainfall can cause negative impacts such as erosion, nutrient leaching, waterlogging, damage to plantation infrastructure, and obstacles in maintenance and harvesting activities. Sei Dadap District, Asahan Regency, North Sumatra, has relatively high rainfall levels. Based on data from 2020–2025, the average annual rainfall reaches around 3,589 mm, higher than the optimum requirement for oil palm plants, which ranges from 2,000–2,500 mm per year. This study aims to examine the effect of rainfall on oil palm productivity in Sei Dadap District. The results are expected to clarify the relationship between rainfall and oil palm productivity, providing a basis for more effective plantation management in high-rainfall areas.

Abstract

Efforts to obtain superior pepper cultivars from a group of accessions require a method to facilitate the selection of superior accessions. Cluster analysis is a method of grouping data based on similar characteristics so that it can summarize, simplify and explain data algorithms from the tested accession population. The study aims to group new pepper lines based on agronomic properties as a basis for selecting superior pepper clones in peatlands. Plant materials in the form of 67 mutant pepper accessions that are 1 year old are then transplanted in the field. Variables consist of internode length, number of branches, number of adventive roots, leaf length and leaf width. Data are analyzed clusters based on 3 leaf shapes. The results showed that the use of ethyl methane sulfonate in Bengkayang pepper succeeded in increasing plant morphological diversity in leaf length and leaf width characters which resulted in variations in round, oval, and long leaves. Cluster analysis based on morphological characters succeeded in grouping 67 M1 mutant pepper accessions into three main groups. Cluster 2 is the most different group from the parents dominated by long leaf shapes. In contrast, Cluster 3 has the closest characteristics to the parent (wild type), dominated by oval leaves and the highest level of uniformity. A total of 19 accessions have long leaf characteristics that have the potential to become candidates for new superior lines. Further testing is needed up to the generative phase to test the stability of traits, productivity, and resistance to biotic and abiotic stresses before being determined as candidates for new superior varieties that are adaptive to peatlands
