Abstract

Flooding in Ngabang, Landak Regency, Kalimantan Barat often results from high rainfall, urban expansion, and limited drainage. This study analyzes the Air Ukah drainage system, including primary, secondary, and tertiary channels, to assess current capacities against projected rainfall intensities. Hydraulic and hydrological analyses were performed using primary field data and validated rainfall records from 1999-2020. Findings reveal that the existing drainage, with the primary channel"™s 5.20 m ³/s capacity, the secondary channel at 0.36 m ³/s, and tertiary channels at 0.82 m ³/s, cannot accommodate maximum discharge, particularly for a 100-year return period rainfall of 114.27 mm/hour. To address this, channels were expanded: the primary channel was widened to 6.5 m and deepened to 3.5 m, increasing its capacity to 11.83 m ³/s. The secondary and tertiary channels were similarly upgraded, now accommodating 2.40 m ³/s and a cumulative 34.07 m ³/s. These modifications significantly enhance drainage capacity, preparing Ngabang to handle intense rain events and mitigating flood risks, particularly in urban areas. This upgraded system now meets the need for resilience against extreme rainfall, ensuring improved water management and community safety.

Abstract

This study analyzes the accuracy of satellite rainfall data compared to observed data at several stations in West Kalimantan from 1998 to 2019. Three methods"”Normal Ratio, Algebraic Mean, and Inverse Square Distance"”were employed to address missing rainfall data. Among these, the Inverse Square Distance method provided the highest coefficient of determination (R ²), with values nearing one at Ketapang, Tebas, and Singkawang stations. Evaluation using RMSE and Relative Bias revealed variations in data accuracy across stations. Satellite data showed high accuracy at Sukadana and Ketapang but lower accuracy at Singkawang, highlighting the need for location-specific calibration. Graphical analyses showed consistent annual rainfall patterns between satellite and observed data despite differences in magnitude during specific years. Comparative studies of three data sources"”observational, satellite, and BMKG"”demonstrated similar trends, with satellite data exhibiting fewer fluctuations and higher stability. Satellite rainfall data is a reliable alternative for estimating rainfall patterns in areas with limited observational data. However, further adjustments are required to enhance its accuracy in specific locations. This study underscores the importance of refining satellite data models for better hydrological management and prediction accuracy.

Abstract

Electrocoagulation and filtration have been recognized as effective solutions for water treatment for many years. However, their application in the desalination process remains relatively uncommon. This research will highlight the requirement of systematic investigation into the potential of these processes for effectively reducing salinity levels on brackish water sources. Therefore, this experimental study in a laboratory setting is proposed to explore the efficacy of electrocoagulation combined with filtration in desalinating brackish peat water. The study aims to analyze the performance of these combined treatment processes by measuring key water quality parameters, including salinity and total dissolved solids (TDS), before and after treatment. Through a series of controlled experiments, the effects of varying treatment durations and operational conditions will be assessed to determine optimal parameters for maximum desalination efficiency. By employing advanced statistical analyses, such as ANOVA, this research will rigorously evaluate the effectiveness of the treatment processes. The combination of electrocoagulation (4 hours) and filtration (30 minutes) achieves significant reductions in both salinity and TDS, with a 40% to 83% improvement in water quality. ANOVA confirms these results, showing significant effects (F F-crit, P 0,05). While filtration alone is more effective than electrocoagulation, the combined approach yields even greater contaminant removal, highlighting its superior efficiency.

Abstract

This study analyzes the structural behavior of the 6-story Pastoral Center of the Archdiocese of Pontianak under earthquake loads, emphasizing its stability, safety, and performance in soft soil conditions. The analysis includes evaluating load combinations, response spectrum curves, stability coefficients, and P-Delta effects. Results indicate that the building's structural stability meets seismic standards, with load combinations effectively calculated and deviations between design and actual conditions remaining within allowable tolerances. The response spectrum curve highlights peak accelerations during short periods, corresponding to the region's soft soil characteristics. The P-Delta effect does not significantly impact stability, confirming that the structure performs well under seismic loads. Future research is recommended to optimize earthquake-resistant designs for buildings with six or more stories, focusing on innovative materials, advanced foundation systems, and real-time monitoring technologies. This study concludes that the Pastoral Center structure provides adequate safety and stability while offering pathways for improving structural resilience in seismic-prone areas.

Abstract

Flooding is a condition where water is not accommodated or the flow of water is obstructed in the sewer, so that it overflows to inundate the surrounding area. The area around the ditch on Purnama Street (the estuary of the Kapuas River) is affected by tides and the intensity and duration of rainfall. This study aims to simulate the flood model that occurred in the Purnama Street area. Data analysis was carried out using HEC-RAS software as a tool for modeling drainage flow. The research was conducted during no rain conditions, 5 and 10 year return periods of rain and the highest and lowest tidal conditions. The flood model simulations were carried out from Demang Ditch to the Lower Kapuas River. The results of the modeling using HEC-RAS show that the drainage channel from the Kapuas River to Purnama Street does not experience inundation/flooding, but in the area of Purnama Street to Demang Ditch during the 5 and 10 year return period rains and the highest tides experience inundation/flooding. which reaches the highway.

Abstract

The title of this research is "National Road Avalanche Management With Cantilever Type Soil Retaining Wall". The background of the research is that the national road sta 20+700, section 041 or to be precise in Muaramais Village, Tambangan District, Mandailing Natal Regency, North Sumatra, is a landslide point that occurred around 2018. For this reason, in 2021, handling has been carried out in landslides with a cantilever type retaining wall. The dimensions of the cantilever are 15 meters long, 3.50 meters deep from the asphalt surface and 2.00 meters wide. Then, the upper wall thickness is 0.30 meters and the lower wall thickness is 0.40 meters. The purpose of this study was to calculate whether the cantilever type retaining wall is safe against overturning, sliding and soil bearing capacity. The results of the research, that the cantilever type retaining wall is safe against overturning, because FS rolls = 4.65 ≥ FS = 2.00 and stability against shear is also safe, because FS shear = 1.96 ≥ FS = 1.50 and retaining walls safe against the bearing capacity of the soil, because the bearing capacity FS = 9.30 ≥ FS = 3.00

Abstract

This article analyzes the flood hazard level in the Kapuas Hulu Sub-watershed using a Geographic Information System (GIS). The flood risk in this region is influenced by various factors such as soil types, land cover, elevation, slope, rainfall, and human activities. Ultisol (64.44%) significantly contributes to flood risk due to its low water permeability, leading to surface runoff during heavy rain. Inceptisol (31.73%) also plays a role in flood dynamics, with its water retention capacity dependent on vegetation. Smaller areas of Histosol (0.50%) and Spodosol (0.07%) pose localized flooding risks in lowland regions. The dominant land cover, primarily dryland forest, helps mitigate flooding, while settlements and agricultural zones increase vulnerability by reducing water absorption. Low-lying areas (50-100 meters) and steep slopes (25-45%) further exacerbate flood potential"”areas receiving moderate to high rainfall increase surface runoff and flood risk. GIS-based analysis categorizes flood vulnerability into low, medium, and high levels, with 57.71% of the area classified as low vulnerability. Recommendations for flood risk mitigation include soil conservation, reforestation, sustainable land management, and drainage system improvements in vulnerable areas.
