Abstract

Dental caries is a prevalent health issue among preschool-aged children. At this developmental stage, children are incapable of making independent decisions; the majority of their active hours are devoted to school or parental supervision, rendering the parent's involvement essential for upholding their children's oral health and hygiene. One important aspect is parental awareness of oral health care. This study sought to examine the impact of parental awareness on dental caries in children at Kartika Kindergarten School IV-77 Malang. The study utilised an analytical observational design with a cross-sectional methodology. The sample comprised 36 children and their parents, chosen using complete sampling. Data were gathered by standardised questionnaires and clinical assessments of caries status with the DMF-T index. The Spearman correlation test was employed for data analysis. The findings indicated a substantial correlation between parental knowledge and the prevalence of dental caries in children (p 0.05). The data suggest that enhancing parental education may diminish the incidence of caries in preschool-aged children. In conclusion, the implementation of parental oral health education programs will result in healthier dental outcomes for children.

Abstract

Mothers' knowledge is very influential in preventing stunting because their ability to support optimal child growth and development, recognize signs of growth disorders, and provide proper nutritional intake is very important. Efforts to educate children about nutrition and health can be done with various methods including lectures and role play and lecture methods. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of stunting education using lecture and role play methods on mothers' knowledge about stunting in toddlers in Kampung Bius, Silih Nara District, Central Aceh Regency. The research method used a quasi-experimental with a two-group design. Education was carried out in 2 methods, namely lectures, with a total of 30 mothers who have toddlers as participants, and role play methods with a total of 16 mothers who have toddlers as participants. Data analysis used a paired T-test. The results showed that the role play group before being given an average score of 18.50 with range 10-24) and after being given it became 21.20 with range 15-25. While in the lecture group before being given an average score of 15.66 with range 5-22 and after being given it became 23.23 with range 18-25. The statistical test obtained in the role play group had a p-value of 0.004, indicating a difference before and after stunting education on improving mothers' knowledge. In the lecture group, the p-value was 0.001, indicating a difference before and after stunting education on improving mothers' knowledge. It can be concluded that the lecture method is more effective in improving mothers' knowledge about stunting prevention than the role play method. It is hoped that health workers at the Community Health Center can use the lecture method to improve mothers' knowledge about toddler stunting

Abstract

Blood donation is an essential humanitarian act that contributes to the healthcare system by ensuring the availability of safe blood for patients in need. However, the participation rate of university students in blood donation remains low, even though they are in the productive age group. This study aimed to determine the relationship between knowledge level and interest in blood donation among students in Makassar. A cross-sectional analytic method was used with a total of 100 respondents selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using a structured and validated questionnaire, then analyzed using the Chi-square test. The findings showed that 41% of respondents had a high level of knowledge, 26% moderate, and 33% low. Meanwhile, blood donation interest levels were 7% high, 78% moderate, and 15% low. The statistical test revealed a significant relationship between knowledge level and blood donation interest (p=0.026). Higher knowledge levels tend to influence student interest, although other factors such as fear, information access, and social support also contribute. It is concluded that education and outreach programs are needed to increase awareness and build a strong culture of voluntary blood donation among students

Abstract

Blood is classified into four main types: A, B, AB, and O. Besides the ABO system, the Rhesus (Rh) system is also important to identify. Knowing one's blood type is essential, especially for safe and effective blood transfusions. Blood typing ensures compatibility between donors and recipients. This study was conducted at the Sandeq Ballroom, Claro Hotel Makassar, during the Sulawesi Education Techno (EXPO) 2024, held from January 23–25, 2024. The participants were high school students attending the event. A total of 258 students voluntarily participated in blood and Rh typing using a convenience sampling method. Results showed that blood type O was the most dominant, followed by types B, A, and the least common was type AB. This distribution is consistent with the general blood type distribution in Indonesia, where blood type O is the most prevalent. This data can serve as a reference for planning future blood donation drives and increasing awareness about the importance of knowing one's blood type, especially among young people

Abstract

The aging process involves a decline in the body's physiological functions, making optimal nutritional intake crucial for maintaining the health and quality of life of the elderly. This literature review aims to synthesize recent evidence on the nutritional status, influencing factors, and intervention strategies for the elderly. The method used was a literature review of articles published between 2020-2025, sourced from databases like PubMed, NCBI, and Google Scholar. Fifteen articles were selected based on inclusion criteria. The findings highlight several key themes: the critical role of adequate protein intake (≥1.3 g/kg BW/day) and its distribution throughout the day to prevent sarcopenia and frailty; the effectiveness of holistic dietary patterns like the Mediterranean diet; the double burden of malnutrition and significant geographical disparities in nutritional status among Indonesian elderly; the strong influence of socio-economic and cultural determinants; and the success of community-based intervention models, such as peer educators and integrated nutrition counseling in primary health services. In conclusion, a comprehensive and integrated approach, encompassing adequate nutrient intake, culturally adapted dietary patterns, routine screening, and community-based empowerment, is essential to improve the nutritional status and support healthy aging for the elderly. Further research is needed to develop interventions tailored to the specific characteristics of the diverse elderly population in Indonesia.

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a major global and national health concern with a steadily increasing prevalence, particularly in Indonesia and South Sulawesi. The primary contributing factors include shifts toward modern lifestyles, obesity, and unhealthy dietary patterns. This literature review employs a library research method with descriptive analysis of various relevant sources, including previous studies and clinical guidelines related to nutritional management of DM. The findings indicate that the implementation of a systematic and standardized nutrition care process significantly improves patient adherence to dietary interventions and glycemic control. Dietary interventions tailored to individual conditions, supported by education and telemedicine technology, play a critical role in enhancing health outcomes and reducing DM-related complications. The effective application of a standardized nutrition care process can improve the quality of DM management in primary healthcare centers, positively contribute to better nutritional status and glycemic control among patients, and support the sustainability and success of DM control programs

Abstract

Malaria is an infectious disease caused by parasites and transmitted through the bite of Anopheles mosquitoes. This disease is acute, potentially fatal, and becomes one of the serious public health issues worldwide. WHO data in 2023 estimates there are 263 million cases of malaria with approximately 597,000 deaths. In 2024, there were 418,546 cases in Indonesia. Data from the Central Statistics Agency of North Sumatra Province shows that in North Sumatra, 6,696 malaria patients were found in 2024. The aim of this study is to identify the risk factors for the occurrence of malaria. The research method used is a literature review by searching and mapping existing literature. The study was conducted using various sources including books, journals, articles, and other sources that can be used in the literature review process. Based on the research, the risk of contracting malaria is caused by factors such as Environmental factors, including variability and range. School-age and productive-age groups with high mobility and people who are more often active outside the home have a greater risk of being exposed to malaria. Compared to those who spend more time indoors. Therefore, malaria prevention efforts are very important to avoid the spread of the disease
