Abstract

Women’s decision-making is an important element in preventing treatment delays. Indonesian women traditionally always depend on their family to decide on treatment. Therefore, this study aims to find out who makes decisions about health problems and analyze the factors associated with the characteristics of women who act as decision-makers in their families when facing health problems.  This study used the individual subset data on married women from the 2017 Indonesia Demographic and Health Survey, which included women of reproductive age (15-49 years). Descriptive statistical analysis will be used in this study. Results: Women’s health decision-making had a significant relationship with all demographic variables. Factors that have influenced women to decide about their health issues were higher educational level (p-value=0.000), have been exposed to the media (p-value=0.047), used the internet (p-value=0.000), had a bank account (p-value=0.000), employed (p-value=0.000), and lived in urban areas (p-value=0.000). Based on this result highly educated women are 2.5 times more likely to be health-related decision-makers.  Conclusion: Highly educated women increased the authority of women to be decision-makers in their families, especially in health issues. By having a high education, women can determine the actions taken for manage health of themselves and their families

Abstract

Drug Related Problems (DRPs) are significant concerns in medication management, particularly for geriatric patients who often experience polypharmacy and decreased physiological function. This study aims to evaluate the prevalence and impact of DRPs among elderly patients at Puskesmas Kapanewon Kasihan Bantul. The study aims to analyze the types and frequency of DRPs, their impact on the quality of life of elderly patients, and identify the factors contributing to DRPs. This descriptive cross-sectional study collected data using medication adherence questionnaires, DRP identification forms, and quality of life assessments with the EQ-5D scale. A total of 100 geriatric patients receiving prescription medications at the Puskesmas between 01 February and 31 March 2024 were included. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Among 100 patients studied, 80% experienced one or more types of DRPs, with drug interactions (70%) and dosing errors (50%) being the most prevalent issues. 35% of patients reported significant adverse effects, and 10% showed non-adherence to prescribed medication regimens. Quality of life scores were significantly lower in patients with DRPs compared to those without DRPs, indicating a negative impact on quality of life. The findings highlight DRPs as a major issue in medication management for geriatric patients at Puskesmas. Polypharmacy, lack of understanding about medication use, and medication administration errors are key contributing factors. The decreased quality of life observed in patients with DRPs underscores the need for improved medication management and patient education. This study underscores the importance of evaluating and managing DRPs to enhance therapeutic outcomes and quality of life for elderly patients. Recommendations include enhanced patient education on medication use, routine therapy reviews, and additional training for healthcare professionals

Abstract

Breakfast is one of the important habits that affect the physical and cognitive health of children, especially for those who attend school. A healthy and nutritious breakfast can improve academic performance and support optimal growth and development of children. The purpose of this study was to obtain an overview of the breakfast behavior of school-age children and the factors that cause it. The research method used was descriptive quantitative. The population of the study was 340 high school students in grade XI at a school in Kediri Regency. The research sample was 154 respondents. Data collection activities were carried out The research data was collected using a questionnaire, then processed descriptively in the form of a diagram. The analysis was carried out descriptively. From the results of data processing, less than half of the respondents (42.86%) had breakfast regularly every day, and more than a quarter of respondents (27.92%) rarely/never had breakfast. Respondents who did not have breakfast regularly because they were not used to having breakfast or had digestive problems if they had breakfast (34.48%), followed by time constraints (in a hurry and afraid of being late) as much as 31.03%, and there were 25.28% because parents did not prepare food for breakfast. Based on the results, it is suggested that families facilitate children to manage their time so that children have enough time to have breakfast

Abstract

Mushrooms play a lot of role in life, both beneficial and detrimental. Certain types of fungi are capable of producing a toxic organic compound called mycotoxin. The mycotoxin produced by Aspergillus flavus is known as aflatoxin. The mushroom growth medium that is often used is SDA (Sabouraud Dextrose Agar). The composition of SDA media is peptone mycology, sugar, agar. The content of rice bran is carbohydrates, protein, water, and agar. The purpose of the study was to determine the comparison of growth diameter and effectiveness of Aspergillus flavus  concentration on bran filtrate media with various concentration variations. The method used in this study was experimental with inoculation of Aspergillus flavus fungi with a single dot method. The average colony diameter concentrations of 5%, 10%, 15% and 20% were 5.3 mm, 8.4 mm, 11.4 mm, and 16.5 mm. On SDA media  the average colony diameter is 17.6 mm. The concentration of bran filtrate media that is close to SDA  media is a concentration of 20%.  The results  of the One Way ANOVA  test showed a significant difference in the growth of Aspergillus flavus between various variations in bran filtrate concentration obtained a sig value of 0.000 less than 0.05. The conclusion of  data analysis using the One Way ANOVA  test was a significant difference in the growth of Aspergillus flavus between various variations in bran filtrate concentration obtained a sig value of 0.000 less than 0.05. In the bonfferoni test results, it was found that a concentration of 20% had similarities or significance to the positive control media of natural resources with a value of (p) 0.331 more than 0.05 which means that there is no significant difference between bran filtrate media at a concentration of 20% with positive control media  of natural resources

Abstract

Hospital nurses have not optimally implemented holistic nursing care with a caring approach, which can affect the quality of service and patient satisfaction levels. Research has explored nurses' perceptions of implementing holistic nursing care based on hospital care. Qualitative research was designed using a phenomenological approach. Twelve nurse participants cared for patients with degenerative diseases. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and analyzed thematically. The ethics commission at Stikes Intan Martapura approved the study, and participants also gave written consent. The study identified five main themes, including understanding the concept of holistic care, its impact on patient satisfaction and loyalty, experiences of providing and receiving care, essential components of care, and how to implement it in clinical practice. The findings indicated that effective therapeutic communication, caring attitudes, professional ethics, and institutional support were key factors in the success of holistic nursing care. This study emphasized the importance of a multidimensional approach that includes biological, psychological, social, spiritual, and economic aspects in nursing practice. This study contributes to understanding caring-based holistic nursing care by highlighting its essential components and positive impact on patient satisfaction and loyalty. The findings provide insights to improve nursing practice and institutional support systems. Further studies are recommended to develop intervention strategies to address the challenges and measure patient outcomes quantitatively to advance holistic nursing care in the clinical setting.

Abstract

Pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease that requires long-term treatment using anti-tuberculosis drugs (OAT). The use of OAT, especially in the long term, can cause side effects on metabolism and organ function, one of which is indicated by changes in uric acid and urea levels in the blood. This study aims to analyze the relationship between environmental health and uric acid and urea levels in pulmonary TB patients undergoing OAT therapy. The benefits of this research include examining the relationship between uric acid and urea levels in pulmonary TB patients taking anti-tuberculosis drugs (OAT) and informing patients that TB treatment may cause an increase in uric acid and urea levels in the kidneys. The study design is an analytical observational study. The cross-sectional design involves measuring uric acid and urea levels using a chemical analyzer. The results of uric acid level measurements using the chemical analyzer showed that 25 respondents had normal uric acid levels (72%), while 28% had levels above the normal range. For urea levels, 16 respondents (64%) had normal values, and 9 respondents (36%) had levels exceeding the normal range. After consuming OAT for 1 month or less, 9 patients (60%) were observed, 2–3 months for 2 patients (13.33%), and 5 months for 1 patient (6.67%).
