Abstract

Poetry, as a form of literary expression, not only offers aesthetic beauty through the arrangement of words but also contains profound meanings that represent values of life, culture, and education. In the context of modern Javanese literature, poetry serves as a reflective medium of the collective experiences of Javanese society amidst dynamic change. Modern Javanese poetry acts as a bridge between traditional heritage and modern awareness, combining artistic expression with moral messages. This study aims to examine the educational values embedded in modern Javanese poetry through the lens of Ki Hajar Dewantara’s educational philosophy. His seven fundamental principles—freedom, nature, culture, humanity, nationality, kinship, and student-centered education—serve as the theoretical framework for analysis. Through a literature review and hermeneutic approach, this research reveals that modern Javanese poetry holds transformative educational messages relevant to character development and cultural preservation.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the Jaranan Jowo performance in Kediri through a semiotic approach to uncover the symbolic meanings embedded within the performance elements such as properties, dance movements, music, and ritual systems. Jaranan Jowo is not merely a form of traditional entertainment but also serves as a medium of cultural communication that represents the spiritual, agrarian, and cosmological values of Javanese society. This research employs a qualitative method with observation, interviews, and documentation as the primary sources of data. The results indicate that each element of the performance functions as a semiotic system representing the relationship between humans, nature, ancestors, and the spiritual realm. Properties such as the kuda lumping and barongan symbolize protective forces and cosmological entities, while music and rituals act as cultural codes that reinforce the community’s social and spiritual bonds. These findings suggest that Jaranan Jowo is a rich cultural narrative embedded with symbolic messages and plays a significant role in preserving local identity amidst the pressures of globalization.

Abstract

This study aims to identify and analyze the moral messages embedded in the Syair Petuah Perempuan Bima and to explore how the poem reflects the relationship between language and culture in Bima society. A descriptive qualitative method was employed, using an anthropolinguistic framework. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and field notes focused on oral practices in the Bima community, where the tradition of this syair is actively preserved. The findings reveal that the Syair Petuah conveys five main categories of moral values: religious values (faith, worship, and the afterlife), moral values (honesty, patience, humility), social values (tolerance, harmony, cooperation), educational values (encouragement to learn and respect teachers), and cultural values (preservation of customs and local identity). The poem demonstrates that language functions not only as a means of communication but also as a medium for transmitting cultural values and reinforcing the social identity of women in Bima society. This research contributes to the preservation of intangible cultural heritage and enriches the fields of anthropolinguistics and character education based on local wisdom in Indonesia

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of digital literacy-based transformative learning in teaching Indonesian language and literature, with a focus on the shift from conventional methods (lectures, memorization) to a more interactive and technology-oriented approach. Through a literature review method with a qualitative approach, this study examines various digital platforms and strategies, including interactive e-learning (Ruang Guru, Quizizz), virtual classes (Zoom, Google Meet), online collaboration (Google Docs, Instagram), gamification (Kahoot!, ClassDojo), and AI-based adaptive technology (Squirrel AI). The results of the study indicate that these methods not only increase active participation, learning motivation, and learning personalization, but also develop skills such as critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration. However, challenges such as the digital divide (limited internet access, lack of understanding of digital literacy in remote areas) hinder optimal implementation. This study recommends strengthening digital infrastructure, teacher training, and developing hybrid models to reach all levels of society. Overall, the transformation of learning through digital literacy has proven to be able to create a more meaningful and relevant learning experience with the demands of the digital era, while maintaining the pedagogical essence in language and literature education.

Abstract

This study aims to examine language integration in the novel Ordinary People by Andrea Hirata (Sociolinguistic Studies) so that language users in general better understand what is meant by language integration and how the form of language integration is contained in the novel orang-orang biasa by Andrea Hirata. Andrea Hirata is known as a writer who is rich in linguistic and symbolic exploration in his work, so this novel is an interesting object to analyze in terms of language. In the novel, the author combines standard Indonesian with a variety of regional languages, local idioms, and everyday expressions used by characters from the lower social class. Language integration not only represents the social background of the characters, but also serves as a means to reinforce the irony, social criticism, and humorous nuances that are typical of Andrea Hirata's writing style. A qualitative approach is used in this study, with the content analysis method as a tool to uncover the layers of language meaning hidden behind dialogues, narratives, and character descriptions. The results of the analysis show that there are four forms of language integration. The language integration found in Andrea Hirata's novel of orang-orang biasa is a form of audio integration, visual integration, direct translation integration, and concept translation integration. The most dominant form of integration in Andrea Hirata's novel orangorang biasa is the language absorbed from English.

The data analysis technique is thematic analysis, which allows researchers to identify the main patterns and themes from the data obtained. Research findings indicate five stages of language acquisition by students with mental retardation: preproduction, early production, speech emergency, intermediate fluency, and advanced fluency. In addition, it was found that English teachers make five main efforts in multicultural learning: content integration, knowledge construction, equity pedagogy, prejudice reduction, and empowering school with culture and social structure. This research provides a new perspective by emphasizing the importance of integrating multicultural values into language teaching strategies that are adaptive to students' special needs. The implications of this research suggest that inclusive and multicultural language education has the potential to improve the language skills of children with special needs and create a more equitable and empowering learning environment.
