Abstract

This study aims to analyze the reading skills of elementary school students in Indonesian language learning. The research employs a qualitative method using a literature review approach by analyzing ten accredited journal articles focusing on reading difficulties among elementary students. Data were collected through documentation techniques and critically analyzed to identify patterns of reading challenges and effective strategies to address them. The findings show that students in lower grades predominantly face technical difficulties such as recognizing letters, reading syllables, and reading fluency, while students in higher grades encounter more complex problems related to reading comprehension and correct pronunciation. Internal factors such as memory weakness, low motivation, and lack of concentration, along with external factors like limited literacy facilities and conventional teaching approaches, contribute significantly to students' reading difficulties. Persistent problems in reading are found to negatively affect students' academic achievements and psychological well-being. Therefore, early detection of reading difficulties, the application of adaptive and varied teaching strategies, and strong collaboration among teachers, schools, and parents are essential steps to enhance students' literacy skills and ensure academic success. This study highlights the urgent need for integrated efforts in improving reading abilities from the early stages of elementary education. The uniqueness of the author is evident in the titles of the poems, which are all related to elements surrounding the dangdut koplo music community, such as the names of female singers, musicians, guitars, drummers, flutes, and so on. The 20 poems analyzed contain highly diverse and aesthetically pleasing figurative language that enhances the distinctive style and originality of the author’s thoughts. The figurative language employed in the collection includes simile, personification, hyperbole, metaphor, paradox, and parallelism. Among these, personification is the most dominant. Notably, two poems—Biduanita Ardila Putri and Jaran Goyang—each contain four types of figurative language simultaneously. This demonstrates the variety and richness of figurative expressions that the author utilizes to beautify the poems while reinforcing their uniqueness and originality.

Abstract

Language skills consist of four aspects, one of which is writing skills. At the junior high school (SMP) level, one of the writing skills taught is writing news texts. In writing news, it is necessary to pay attention to the elements, structure, and linguistic rules. However, in reality, many students still experience difficulties in composing news texts. These difficulties can stem from various factors, such as a lack of understanding of text structure, limited vocabulary, low interest in reading news, and inadequate ability to express ideas coherently and logically. In addition, the limited use of engaging and relevant learning media also presents a challenge in the writing learning process. Teachers are required to provide innovative and creative instruction in order to achieve the learning objectives. Various models, methods, strategies, and learning media can be used to make this happen. The aim of this study is to determine the effectiveness of digital applications in improving students' ability to write news texts. Digital applications are considered suitable and relevant to be implemented in education in line with current technological developments. The method used in this study is a literature review, which aims to analyze the effectiveness of digital applications in enhancing news writing skills. The results of the literature review indicate that the use of digital applications in learning is effective in increasing students’ interest and motivation to learn. In addition, students’ understanding of the subject matter also improves, as evidenced by the fact that students’ scores are now above average.
