Abstract

Treatise of Asy-Shaykh Abdur Ar-Rauf fi At-Taqwim's is one of the collections of the Pedir Museum in Aceh which consists of three sheets (six pages) in Arabic-Malay language which discusses the calculation of the Hijri calendar. However, the text does not explain the origin of the numbers and their formulas. So the calculation of the Hijri calendar described in the manuscript cannot be used at this time because the difference is very far from the Hijri calendar that we usually use. This research is included in library research, namely research by collecting data and information from books, journals, and other recorded documents related to the calculations described in the text of As-Shaykh 'Abdur Ar-Rauf fi At-Taqwim's Treatise. Data analysis was carried out by examining the origin of the letters of the year and the letters of the month and their corrections so that the calculation of the beginning of the Hijri month described in the AsShaykh 'Abdur Ar-Rauf fi At-Taqwim treatise can be used throughout the ages. In this study there is a synthesis that the calculation of the beginning of the month described in the As-Shaykh 'Abdur Ar-Rauf fi AtTaqwim treatise must be corrected to adjust to the hijri calendar that we use every day. Keywords: Treatise of As-Shaykh 'Abdur Ar-Rauf fi At-Taqwim, Early Months, Syiah Kuala.

Abstract

Universal Astrolabe is a type of Astrolabe that can be used in any region or latitude. This paper examines the accuracy of the Universal Astrolabe in determining the start of the five daily prayer times (Fajr, Zuhur, Asr, Maghrib and Isha). The purpose of this study was to determine the accuracy of the calculation method for determining the beginning of prayer times using the Universal Astrolabe. Astrolabe is one of the classical astronomical instruments that describes the celestial sphere in two dimensions and was originally used to determine the position of the Sun. Astrolabe comes from the Greek language which consists of the word "aster" which means star, and the word "labio" which means take, understand, and catch. In simple terms, Astrolabe can be interpreted as a tool to study the Stars. This instrument is a type of calculating tool. The function of the Astrolabe is very complex, namely to determine the position of the Sun or other stars, to determine the zodiac and its circulation scale, to determine the height of an object and determine solar time. The results showed that the method of calculating the initial prayer time applied in the Universal Astrolabe was the method of reading directly on the plate. The initial calculation of prayer times using the Universal Astrolabe results in a calculation difference between 0-3 minutes and the prayer time schedule set by the Ministry of Religion of the Republic of Indonesia, so it is considered quite accurate. This difference can be influenced by the diameter of the Universal Astrolabe and the accuracy of the reader when reading the curves and numbers listed on the Universal Astrolabe. Keywords: Prayer Times, Accuracy, Universal Astrolabe.

Abstract

The determination of the beginning of the month of Kamariyah is an interesting study of astronomy to be studied more deeply. In determining the beginning of the month of Kamariyah, there are two methods, namely reckoning and rukyat. The rukyat or rukyatul hilal method is related to the results of rukyat and the testimony of the new moon itself. The moment that Thierry Legault arrived, who had photographed the new moon, became a question of how his testimony was as a witness in seeing the new moon. According to the views of some schools and Islamic law, the testimony of the hilal of non-Muslims cannot be accepted because they are not just people and have no power over Muslims. But if you look at some of the conditions in the hilal testimony, Thierry Legault himself fulfills several formal and material requirements.

Abstract

This paper examines the fasting of arafah and tarwiyah, both problematic in terms of arguments and the determination of the day, which often occurs every year. Through the study of Library Research which refers to the opinions of ulama. This study concludes that fasting arafah and tarwiyah are worship practices that have sunnah values, according to the arguments presented. As for the polemic of determining the day, it is divided into two groups. First: consider that arafah is a sign for the time when the haji “wukuf” in Arafah. And second: assume that arafah is a date (9 Zulhijjah). Both have their own basis of thinking, but the author as a researcher chooses the second opinion.

Abstract

This article discusses the problems of the shape of the earth: a comparative historical study of science and the perspective of the Qur'an and Sunnah. Among the scientific studies that are quite warm and test the existence of modern science in recent years is the debate between adherents of the spherical Earth theory (spherical and ellipsoid) and adherents of the flat Earth theory (flat earth). This issue becomes a very serious problem because each party not only shows scientific evidence, but also uses the arguments of the Qur'an and hadith to strengthen their arguments. From a scientific point of view, flat-Earthers argue against the spherical Earth theory such as the invisible curvature of the Earth based on Samuel Rowbotham's experiments, claims that NASA fabricated photos of the Earth and satellites are mere lies, there is no gravity, the north pole is the center of the Earth and so on. Other Meanwhile, in terms of syar’i texts, the commentators also differ in opinion about how the Earth actually looks like. What was put forward by adherents of flat earth was then responded by adherents of round Earth with a number of scientific arguments. In this paper, the authors present a comparison between the flat earth theory and rebuttals from adherents of the spherical earth theory in several approaches, such as the development of history, science, the study of astronomy and interpretation of the Qur'an.

Abstract

The use of robotic telescopes in the practice of observing the Hilal in Indonesia is quite widespread. One type of telescope that is widely used by observers is the iOptron Cube. Telescopes with an alt-azimuth mounting type with GPS features can be used easily by observers who observes Hilal on a portable basis. The effectiveness of using this telescope needs to be studied more deeply because pointing accuracy and alt-azimuth tracking mounting capabilities require good computational ability to obtain the expected results. After being tested with two configurations (narrow and wide field of view) and seeing the various supporting features embedded in this telescope, it can be concluded that the iOptron Cube is quite effective for observing Hilal.

Abstract

The determination of the beginning of the lunar month has always been a hot topic of discussion, especially in the months of Ramadan, Shawwal and Zulhijah. The method used to determine the beginning of the lunar month is the reckoning and rukyat methods. The Nurul Hidayah Islamic Boarding School in determining the beginning of the lunar month is quite different from what the government does, namely rukyat tarbi' and badr. The government is currently using Imkanur Rukyat Neo MABIMS. The convergence of rukyat tarbi' and badr with Imkanur Rukyat Neo MABIMS are both methods used to determine the beginning of the lunar month. In its application, different results are obtained. Of the many factors, the most influential is the reckoning used and the standard of the height of the new moon which is quite high.

Abstract

This paper describes how Tgh. Ibrahim al-Kahidiy Kediri West Lombok West Nusa Tenggara in determining the Qibla direction, especially on the island of Lombok, which is Tgh. Ibrahim al-Khlidiy Kediri West Lombok West Nusa Tenggara in the field of fiqh studied with famous hijaz scholars and especially in the field of astronomy studied with Sheikh Khalifah Bin Nibhan al Falaky (1270-1355) one of the great scholars in astronomy at his time, hence Tgh. Ibrahim al-Khlidiy Kediri and the results of his astrological calculations, especially in determining the Qibla direction, became a reference for his students in determining the Qibla direction for mosques, prayer rooms in Lombok, even though at this time various modern applications have mushroomed that offer Qibla direction with scientific methods and formulas but classical calculations using the rubu' mujayyab tool which is a tradition of Islamic boarding schools is not far from high accuracy and precision, it turns out that the results of calculating the Qibla direction of Tgh. Ibrahim al-Kahlidiyah Kediri for the island of Lombok: 22.3/4 ( 22.45) proved to be in accordance with the line stretched from the top of the Ka'bah to the position of the mosque where the Qibla direction was measured using this data.

Abstract

The presence of an accurate, consistent, and unified calendar system is a strength in civilization. Nevertheless, an easy thing to do through a long history. Globally the calendar used is still the Gregorian calendar around the world which is based on the revolution of the sun. In the Islamic world, the Hijri calendar is also known based on the calculation of the moon's revolution against the earth. the existence of the hijri calendar as a time marker for Muslims in worship and muamalah. However, entering the 14th century hijriyah, the hijri calendar system cannot be used uniformly in the Islamic world. This has become a major concern for Islamic countries, including Indonesia, to formulate efforts to unify the hijriyah calendar, but until now, through several collaborations and conferences, Islamic countries have not been successful due to several factors, both fiqh and astronomical.
