Abstract

Abstract

Climbing perch fish (Anabas testudineus Bloch) is a high-value species in Indonesia, but its cultivation faces challenges like low survival rate and growth in early stages. Ecoenzymes, fermented organic solutions rich in amylase, protease, and lipase, offer potential to enhance feed efficiency. This study evaluated the effects of ecoenzyme-supplemented feed (0–15 ml/kg) on climbing perch fish growth, survival rate, and feed conversion ratio (FCR). A 30-day trial used a Complete Random Design (4 treatments, 3 replicates) with ecoenzyme doses of 0 (control), 5, 10, and 15 ml/kg feed. Parameters included survival rate, relative weight growth, and FCR. The 15 ml/kg dose significantly improved weight growth (229.3%) compared to control (193.7%) (p < 0.05), but survival (90–95%) and FCR (1.55–1.60) were unaffected. Ecoenzymes at 15 ml/kg enhance climbing perch fish growth, likely via nutrient digestibility. Future research should explore higher doses (>15 ml/kg), long-term effects, and ecoenzyme’s bioactive components for aquaculture sustainability.

Abstract

Catamenial pneumothorax (CP) is a rare and recurrent spontaneous pneumothorax in women, typically occurring from 24 hours before menstruation to 72 hours afterward. While once considered uncommon, CP is now recognized in up to 30% of pneumothorax cases among women. This study aims to provide a comprehensive literature-based analysis of the etiology, diagnosis, and multidisciplinary management of CP. The research method used is a literature review that analyzes clinical cases, diagnostic imaging, histopathological findings, and treatment outcomes from various databases and published case reports. Findings suggest that while the etiology remains multifactorial—including diaphragmatic defects, lymphovascular dissemination, and hormonal influences—the use of video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) combined with pleurodesis and postoperative hormonal therapy (e.g., GnRH analogs) significantly reduces recurrence rates, down to 0% in some combined therapy cases. Imaging modalities like MRI during menstruation increase diagnostic accuracy. The study also underscores the importance of surgical timing, hormonal therapy continuity, and long-term monitoring for recurrence prevention. Implications of this study include the need for standardized treatment protocols and the incorporation of gynecological and thoracic collaboration in managing CP. Future research should explore biomarkers and prospective multicenter trials to refine diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disease with a growing prevalence and mortality rate globally and nationally. Conventional treatment is effective but has limitations such as side effects and high cost. Therefore, phytotherapy is an alternative that is increasingly in demand as a complementary therapy. This study aims to evaluate the clinical evidence of various natural ingredients used as complementary therapies for type 2 diabetes mellitus. A systematic review was conducted on original research articles on humans from 2020–2025 obtained from Google Scholar. Of the 209 articles, 13 met the inclusion criteria. Data were analyzed descriptively including plant type, preparation form, research design, and influence on blood glucose levels. Moringa leaves (Moringa oleifera) are the most studied plants and show a consistent effect of lowering blood glucose. Other plants such as bitter melon, binahong leaves, kersen leaves, jicama, brown and black rice, and herbal combinations also provide significant hypoglycemic effects. The natural ingredients reviewed show potential as a safe and evidence-based complementary therapy in the management of type 2 DM. However, further research with a more rigorous design is needed to guarantee its effectiveness and safety

Abstract

Microplastics (MPs) are <5 mm synthetic polymer particles that are emerging contaminants and have been found widely in various water bodies. Wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) play an important role in containing the release of MPs into the environment, but studies on the effectiveness of greywater-based WWTP, especially in dense urban areas such as Jakarta, are still limited. This research was conducted on a greywater WWTP with Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor (MBBR) technology in South Jakarta to analyze the abundance, efficiency of dispensation, and characteristics of microplastics based on shape, color, size, and material. Samples were taken from five points on weekdays and holidays, analyzed using NOAA methods and FTIR spectroscopy. The abundance of MPs at the inlet reached 942 particles/L (weekdays) and 675 particles/L (holidays), while at the outlet there were 290 particles/L and 211 particles/L, resulting in a dispensing efficiency of 69%. Five types of MPs (foam, fragment, fiber, film, microbead) were found with color variations (white-transparent, yellow, red, blue, green, black), as well as the content of PVFM, PVB, PVA, silicone, and POM polymers. This study contributes to the understanding of the distribution and character of MPs in greywater treatment systems that are still rarely explored, as well as supporting the development of mitigation strategies based on WWTP technology
