Abstract

MicroRNA (miRNA) is a small RNA molecule that regulates post-transcriptional gene expression. miRNA combines with the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC) and carries out its function in controlling translation. The formation of miRNA involves enzymes and proteins that cut it in its processing as well as protein complexes in the cytoplasm that make the miRNA mature. Several changes, for example deletion or overexpression, can occur in miRNAs, causing cancer growth. The aim of this study was to investigate the process of miRNA biogenesis as well as analyze how changes in miRNA expression can affect the biological pathways involved in cancer. This type of research is a literature review. The data that has been collected is then analyzed in three stages, namely data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. The results show that the role of miRNAs is in the post-transcriptional regulation of genes. MiRNAs associate with the RISC complex and interact with mRNA through complementary base pairing thereby halting translation and promoting mRNA degradation. MiRNAs are deregulated in cancer, including over-expression of oncogenic miRNAs or deletion of miRNA characteristics as tumor inhibitors. The results of this research also provide a foundation for further education and advanced research in the field of molecular biology, particularly in genetic regulation and disease mechanisms.

Abstract

Many people are interested in using the shadow terminal area on Jalan Raya Cibeber as a place to wait for public transportation and an interaction point between modes and routes. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the existence of shadow terminals around Pasir Hayam Terminal, focusing on the factors that influence passenger preferences in choosing shadow terminals compared to official terminals.  This research method uses a quantitative approach, where Importance Performance Analysis (IPA) is used to evaluate public transportation users' satisfaction with the performance of shadow terminals and main terminals. In addition, the SWOT Analysis Method is used as a tool to help structure the problem, especially in analyzing the strategic environment, which consists of two aspects, namely the internal and external environment. The results of calculations and analysis using the IPA method show that comfort and convenience are the main factors that influence passenger preferences in choosing the Shadow Terminal. Another significant factor is the availability of clean and complete dining and toilet facilities.  Through SWOT analysis, Pasir Hayam Terminal is in quadrant 2 which indicates a diversification strategy. In this strategy, the focus will be on optimizing the strengths of the terminal, improving existing weaknesses, taking advantage of open opportunities, and overcoming threats that may be faced. In addition, this strategy includes efforts to increase the advantages of Pasir Hayam Terminal over Terminal Bayangan and utilize the potential of Terminal Bayangan as a strength.

Abstract

Various smartphone brands with varying prices and specifications continue to emerge and develop in society. This study aims to determine the effect caused by product differentiation and reference groups on consumer purchasing decisions. This research is a quantitative research with product differentiation and reference groups as independent variables and consumer purchasing decisions as dependent variables. This study uses questionnaire data collection techniques and obtained 68 respondents, namely students of D-IV Marketing Management Study Department of Business Administration Malang State Polytechnic who use Xiaomi smartphones. Data analysis used was multiple linear regressions. The results show that partially product differentiation variables have a positive and significant effect on purchasing decisions, besides that the reference group variables also have a positive and significant effect on purchasing decisions. So from that it can be concluded that differentiation and reference groups can influence consumer purchasing decisions by increasing the superiority and value of the product and increasing the company's image to attract consumer attention.

Abstract

This study examines the performance of CNC machines at PT MTAT Indonesia from January to March 2023. Monthly production data, machine uptime, defect rates, and non-productive periods were collected to assess Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE). This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of preventive maintenance of CNC machines at PT MTAT Indonesia using the Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) method to reduce downtime. This study uses monthly data from January to March 2023, including production uptime, defect rates, and non-productive periods, to calculate OEE. The analysis showed that the CNC machines achieved an average OEE of 86.52%, surpassing the global standard of 85%, indicating high efficiency and quality. The study used Pareto analysis to identify the main causes of downtime, finding technical and maintenance issues as the main contributors. By addressing these factors, PT MTAT Indonesia can further improve machine efficiency and productivity. This study contributes to this field by providing a comprehensive analysis of CNC machine maintenance and proposing strategies for continuous improvement.

Abstract

MSMEs play an important role in reducing unemployment, alleviating poverty, and promoting economic growth. This study aims to assess the socioeconomic conditions of kue kepang business owners in Busela, Dabung, Geger, Bangkalan, Madura, and evaluate the feasibility of the business from a social and economic perspective. This qualitative research used in-depth interviews and observation to collect primary and secondary data directly from the business location. The data were analyzed descriptively to understand the socioeconomic phenomena related to the Kue Kepang business. The findings show that the Kue Kepang business significantly empowers the local community by providing jobs for 10-15 people. The business not only maintains and promotes local cultural heritage but also contributes to regional economic stability. The average monthly income of business owners ranges between IDR 5,587,714 and IDR 5,915,000, depending on whether they rent or own their business premises. However, the business faces risks such as fluctuating raw material prices and competition from similar products that need to be managed for sustainable growth. The study concludes that the Kue Kepang business is viable and beneficial from an economic and social perspective, contributing significantly to local community development and cultural preservation.

Abstract

Various therapeutic agents can be used to help maintain a neutral condition in the oral cavity, one of which is mouthwash. However, mouthwash uses synthetic active chemical ingredients which, in the long term, may pose risks to health; in certain levels, it has been reported to cause side effects and is toxic. Bangle rhizome (Zingiber montanum) is a natural ingredient that contains various phytochemicals and has antibacterial properties. This research aims to observe the extent of inhibitory property of bangle rhizome against the growth of Streptococcus mutans, Porphyromonas gingivalis and Enterococcus faecalis. The ethanol extract of bangle rhizome was divided into 5 concentrations (60% w/v, 70% w/v, 80% w/v, 90% w/v, and 100% w/v). The inhibitory property test was performed using the Kirby-Bauer disk diffusion test with 3 replications. Chlorhexidine 0.2% was used as positive control and DMSO 10% was used as negative control. The results of this research showed that the ethanol extract of bangle rhizome could inhibit the growth of Streptococcus mutans, Porphyromonas gingivalis and Enterococcus faecalis bacteria in all concentrations.

Abstract

Black betel leaves (Piper betle L. var nigra) are known to have antibacterial effects caused by secondary metabolites such as tannins, phenolic compounds, saponins, flavonoids, alkaloids, and steroids. This study aims to assess the antibacterial activity of ethanol extract of black betel leaves (Piper betle L. var nigra) against S. mutans, P. gingivalis, and E. faecalis by measuring the diameter of the inhibition zone formed. This research is a type of pure experimental research (true experimental) with post test only control group design. This experimental research was conducted using the disc diffusion method in vitro, the bacteria were treated with black betel leaf extract (Piper betle L. var nigra) with a concentration variation of 60%, 70%, 80%, 90%, and 100%. The experiment was repeated three times. The results showed that black betel leaf (Piper betle L. var nigra) had antibacterial activity against two of the three bacteria. This activity was observed through the presence of distinct clear zones around the paper disks. In conclusion, extracts derived from black betel leaf (Piper betle L. var nigra) had antibacterial activity against S. mutans and P. gingivalis bacteria at 70%, 80%, 90%, and 100% concentrations. However, it did not have antibacterial activity against E. faecalis bacteria.
