Abstract

There are two main roles played by a principal of private schools. The first role is as an entrepreneur whose main task is to meet the student enrollment target as stated in Decree of Minister of National Education No. 13 of 2007. The second role is as an educational leader whose main task is to increase the student academic performance as stated in the Law No. 20 of 2003 on The National Education System. The problems encountered in the last five years have been a decrease of student enrollment and a decrease of  academic performance of its students in the last three years. The goal of the study was to better understand as to how much the school principal has done to cope with the two problems. This study made use of qualitative descriptive methodology with a case study design. The subject of this research is the principal. The respondents are three teachers for interview and eleven  teachers for questionnaire. The technical data collection is by interview, questionnaire and document study. The analysis of the data of the questionnaire used a Likert’s scale to assess the attitude, opinion and perception toward the principal combined with the results of the interview and document study. The results of the data analyzing show that (1) the role of the principal’s leadership in increasing the growth of the number of the students, (2) the role of the principal’s leadership in increasing the academic quality of the students, and (3) the role of the principal’s sense of entrepreneurship in increasing the number of the students have happened. These types of the principal’s roles can be considred as the alternative ways to increase the growth of the number of the students and to increase the academic quality of the students in this tight competitive era among the middle upper segmented  private schools.

Abstract

The practice of Christian leadership is influenced by the understanding of who God is and His work. The monistic view of God leads to a monistic leadership approach. With the redevelopment of the doctrine of Trinity, many implications are discussed, including in leadership. Christian leaders are exposed to many leadership theories. One of those is Transformational Leadership which is very appealing to Christian leaders. Yet, Christian leaders must develop their understanding and practice of leadership from what they believe about God and His works. This writing will discuss the trinitarian perspectives in developing a Christian foundation for transformational leadership, using literature review on the topic of leadership based on the Trinitarian perspectives, comparing with the transformational leadership theory. Three suggestions are presented to be considered by Christian leaders in practicing transformational leadership from Trinitarian perspectives, shared leadership, mission-centred, and creating space for the Holy Spirit.

Abstract

Education stands as the foundation for nurturing and touching each soul then turns it into a compassionate one. Through learning, students are guided to uncover and fulfill their unique identities and potential optimally. When education focuses only on intellectual achievement, it risks detaching learners from their communities. In Indonesia, this imbalance has been stark, while cognitive development is prioritized, emotional and creative, and character-building dimensions often receive little attention. The high incidence of student violence that continues reflects a deeper crisis that one rooted not in academic shortcomings alone, but in the absence of holistic character education. Therefore, this study aims to examine how Ki Hajar Dewantara’s principles offer meaningful responses to today’s challenges and how it can be integrated with the existing and modern educational frameworks. Through this paper, the author conducts research based on literature review using a three-step method (theoretical, reflective, and applicative) to delve into the humanistic philosophy of education by Ki Hajar Dewantara. By anchoring the research in Ki Hajar Dewantara’s holistic approach, this study hopes to contribute toward reviving our national education identity, where academic excellence intersects with emotional intelligence, cultural rootedness and moral integrity.

Abstract

The current rapid development of science and technology and the limitations of face-to-face learning during the Covid 19 pandemic, have required online learning. This affects the length of screen time, especially in the early childhood stages. The impact of online learning and increased screen time in early childhood needs to be investigated to become a reference for learning methods and strategies for both teachers and parents. This study was conducted by comparing some of the literature on online learning and screen time in early childhood. This study shows that the positive impact of online learning is that it allows children to be able to learn from anywhere and at any time, increases the time and cost efficiency, and allows children to have a wealth of unique learning experiences. While the negative impacts are the uneven quality of internet connections, especially in remote areas, limited access to learning tools to support online learning processes, limited digital skills of children and teachers, and limited interaction between teachers and children. The side effects of excessive amounts of screen time in early childhood can be detrimental to physical and mental health, causing speech delays, and limiting opportunities to develop social skills.
