The International Journal of Research in Vocational Studies (IJRVOCAS) is a double-blind peer-reviewed journal. This journal provides full open access to its content on the principle that making research freely and independently available to the science community and the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge and the further development of expertise in the field of vocational education and training (VET). IJRVOCAS is since the beginning independent from any non-scientific third-party funding. The establishment of the journal was supported between 2015 and 2016 with grants from the Yayasan Ghalih Pelopor Pendidikan (Ghalih Foundation). All members of IJRVOCAS work on an honorary basis. The journal is hosted by Ghalih Publishing and the publishing house of the Ghalih Academic. Scope IJRVOCAS covers all topics of VET-related research from pre-vocational education (PVE), initial vocational education and training (IVET) and career and technical education (CTE) to workforce education (WE), human resource development (HRD), professional education and training (PET) and continuing vocational education and training (CVET).

Abstract

Many dead coral reefs found on the coast have not been treated optimally and currently their use is still limited as decoration in aquariums. Coral reefs contain calcium carbonate, silicon dioxide, sodium oxide, magnesium peroxide, and Iron (III) oxide, with a calcium carbonate content of around 73.76%. Because of its high calcium carbonate content, it can be used as a raw material for making PCC (Precipitated Calcium Carbonate) which is widely used in the industrial, health and food sectors. The aim of this research is to obtain the optimal temperature and time for CaO levels, as well as the effect of nitric acid solution concentration on the yield with a high level of purity in PCC products using the carbonization method. The fixed variables are: coral reef mass, independent variables: temperature, calcination time and nitric acid concentration and dependent variables: CaO yield and CaCO3 levels. The calcination temperature used was 700℃, 750℃, 800℃, 850℃, 900℃ and HNO3 concentration 1.50M, 2.00M, 2.50 M, 3.00M, 3.50M with Ca analysis using AAS and PCC morphology and content using SEM-EDX. Optimal conditions are the results of calcination at a temperature of 900℃ with an HNO3 concentration of 3.50 M resulting in a yield of 76% with a purity of 98.58%, pH 8, white with a Ca concentration (ppm) of 1,962,630 and the crystal form obtained at 3.00 M HNO3 is calcite and 3.50 M HNO3 is vaterite.

Abstract

The public sector budget has a function as a local financial management planning tool. BPKPD district of Hulu River South is an institution that carries out the duties of the local government in the planning of the regional budget. This study is aimed at finding out the application of budget functions as a tool for planning income and expenditure in the BPKPD district of Hulu River South. This study uses a method of quantitative research using a descriptive approach. The study uses three types of measurement analysis to find out the use of budget function as a planning tool, namely, the process of budgeting, the level of effectiveness of budget income, and the degree of efficiency as well as deviations in budget expenditures. The income budget effectiveness rate for 2022 reached 118.60% (more than 100%) with the category of highly effective, coming from three types of regional income. First, Regional Real Income with an efficiency ratio of 87.51% belongs to the effective category. Second, Transfer income with an effectiveness rate of 119.82% belonging to the highly efficient category. The calculation of the expenditure efficiency ratio showed less efficient access, with a ratio of 93.06%. Operations purchases obtained a rate of 75.92% in the efficient category. Capital purchases gained access to efficiency ratios of 91.41%, including the less effective category. Unexpected expenditures reached the rate of efficiency of 17.92%, in the highly efficient categories. Lastly, the transfer spending sector has an efficiency rate of 99.81% in the less efficient category. Secondly, the calculation of the variance analysis in the regional spending sector shows that the entire account in the local spending area has more variance. No spending account has a budget deficit as a result of the realization or achievement of greater income than estimated. The deviation that occurs on the entire account of the shopping sector is favorable.

Abstract

Cigarette smoke is one of the primary causes of indoor air pollution, leading to various adverse health impacts. To address this issue, this research aims to design of a cigarette smoke detection device using the MiCS-5524 sensor integrated with the Internet of Things (IoT). This device can detect the level of cigarette smoke in indoor spaces and provide alerts through an LCD, a buzzer, and the Blynk application. Furthermore, the device can activate an exhaust fan to remove cigarette smoke from the room. The device employs the NodeMCU ESP8266 microcontroller as the central control unit for system operation and internet communication. The MiCS-5524 sensor was chosen for its high sensitivity to carbon monoxide (CO), a major component of cigarette smoke. Test results demonstrate that the device functions effectively and accurately in detecting cigarette smoke and responding to indoor air conditions. It is anticipated that this device will contribute to improving indoor air quality and human health.

Abstract

Tengkuit is a traditional tool used by farmers to care for katuk, chilies, lumai, and others. The problem that farmers complain about is frequent wear and tear and chipping, which according to farmers and craftsmen must maximize quality and this must increase production costs and farmers' expenses. As time goes by, innovations have been made by humans to increase the durability of an object or material by increasing its hardness to save or reduce production costs. This research used qualitative approach with the taguchi method. The Taguchi method is a new engineering technique that aims to improve product and process quality while minimizing costs and resources. Taguchi's experimental design is more efficient because it allows searches involving many factors and numbers, and has good large-scale violent response. The maximum check value is the optimal parameter value for the tengkuit making process. Temperature and cooling media are very influential factors in testing hardness for making tengkuit. The results of the hardness research were shown as the lowest hardness value at a temperature of 600°C, with well water cooling media with a value of 24.3 HRC, and the highest hardness value at a temperature of 800°C. with bromus oil cooling media at a temperature of 700 ° C and a hardness value of 42.9HRC.

Abstract

Masks are essential for preventing people from breathing in dangerous compounds and airborne pollutants. On the other hand, incorrect mask disposal presents a serious environmental risk. Medical masks are mostly made of polypropylene and are formed of three layers: a central layer of melt-blown material, an outer layer of waterproof non-woven fabric, and an interior layer. This research aims to determine the effect of medical mask waste fiber on the rheological characteristics of asphalt. In terms of the rheological characteristics of asphalt, the addition of asphalt will decrease the penetration, ductility, specific gravity, and lost on heating, and increase the viscosity, softening point, and flash point. The positive impact is that the inclusion of mask waste results in increased asphalt hardness, enhancing resistance to rutting. On the other hand, the negative impact is that the inclusion of masking waste will reduce the resistance to cracking due to the reduced elasticity.

Abstract

The study conducted a profound exploration on the potential impacts of a blended learning-based flipped classroom method on students' reading comprehension and their perception towards it. The methodology used a quantitative quasi-experimental approach with purposive sampling in a state senior high school in Palembang. The process of collecting data involved the utilization of questionnaires, post-tests, and pre-tests. Either experimental and control class has 25 students. The test's reliability and validity were thoroughly examined through the employment of the Split-Half technique as well as the Aiken formula. Furthermore, in an effort to establish dependability for the questionnaire, Pearson Correlation testing methods were utilized. A comprehensive data analysis covered broad statistical areas including application of Shapiro-Wilk procedure, Levene Statistics test evaluating homogeneity characteristics, deployment of independent samples t-test and incorporation of Cohen's d in hypothesis validation procedures. Post intervention results from experimental group significantly indicated marked improvements in reading comprehension following hypothesis assessment. The alternative hypothesis (Ha) was thereby substantiated, leading to the rejection of the null hypothesis (H0). Additionally, students perceive the blended learning-based flipped classroom as an enjoyable teaching approach that enhances their engagement in the learning process and aids improvement in areas that require attention. These findings imply that implementing the blended learning-based flipped classroom could be a valuable resource for English teachers, offering advantages to students such as improved accessibility and readiness for reading comprehension learning.

Abstract

Marker ink created from natural ingredients can be used as an alternative to ink with high VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) levels, which can be harmful to one's health. Noni leaf extract includes tannins, which can be utilized as a basic dye/pigment in marker ink. The goal of this study is to use natural dyes derived from noni leaf extract as a replacement for synthetic ink VOC and as an innovation in green marker ink. The study was undertaken with various adjustments, including the inclusion of noni leaf tannins (0.6 gr, 0.8 gr, 1.0 gr, 1.2 gr, 1.4 gr) and gum arabic (4 gr, 5 gr). The analytical findings of the best arker ink products are presented in formula 5, which includes tannins mass 1.4 gr and gum arabic mass 4 gr, with a viscosity of 3.1 cp, density of 1.14 g/ml, pH 6, and concentrated pigment production. Based on these findings, marker ink products fulfill the quality standards of the SNI 06-1567-1999 test.

Abstract

The integration of vision-based technology in daily life has been perceived in recent years. The wide range of robot implementations, including agriculture, necessitates the installation of the eye to fully function and substitute the human eye. Camera and image processing work hand in hand in realizing the idea of automatic labor in daily life. This paper presents an arm robot navigated by image processing inputs from objects' coordinate positions. The robot is assigned to pick and place red tomatoes within different lighting and positions. The robot can sort the red tomatoes and ignore the green tomatoes. Inverse kinematics analysis is included to show the effectiveness of the proposed method. This robot is ideal for agricultural settings to sort the harvested fruit.
