Abstract

Background: Anemia remains a significant public health challenge affecting adolescent girls worldwide, particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). This condition undermines growth, cognitive development, school performance, and reproductive health, with long-term intergenerational consequences. Objective: This systematic review aimed to systematically review the global prevalence, associated risk factors, and intervention strategies targeting anemia among adolescent girls, and to identify research and policy gaps that hinder effective prevention. Design: A systematic review of quantitative and mixed-methods studies conducted between January 2019 and May 2024 was undertaken by the PRISMA guidelines. Data Sources: Five electronic databases (PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar) were searched using Boolean combinations of keywords such as "anemia," "adolescent girls," "risk factors," and "intervention." Additional records were retrieved from grey literature and manual reference checks. Review Methods: Eligible studies included observational, interventional, and mixed-methods research on adolescent girls aged 10–19 years, with clear reporting of anemia prevalence or related risk factors. Quality appraisal was conducted using the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) tools. Thematic synthesis was applied to categorize risk factors and interventions. Results: A total of 12 studies from over 8 countries were included. Anemia prevalence ranged from 25% to 61%, with the highest rates reported in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. Major risk factors included poor dietary diversity, early menarche, menstrual disorders, parasitic infections, and low socioeconomic status. School-based iron and folic acid (IFA) supplementation combined with nutrition education and community engagement showed the most promising results. However, adherence and program sustainability were frequently reported challenges. Conclusion: Anemia among adolescent girls is a multidimensional issue requiring context-specific, multisectoral approaches. Integrating education, supplementation, and culturally adapted interventions can enhance program effectiveness. Future research should focus on long-term outcomes, behavioral drivers, and scalable solutions tailored to the needs of adolescent populations.

Abstract

Background: Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) is one of the complications of pregnancy that significantly contributes to maternal and infant morbidity and mortality rates. Although the prevalence of GDM is relatively low in Indonesia, the actual number may be higher due to underdiagnosis. There are limited previous studies on knowledge and preventive practices related to Gestational Diabetes Mellitus, particularly in Indonesia. Objective: To analyze the relationship between knowledge and preventive behavior of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus among pregnant women. Methods: A quantitative research study with a cross-sectional design involving 83 pregnant women in Bogor, West Java, Indonesia, selected through accidental sampling. The inclusion criteria were pregnant women in their first to third trimesters, while the exclusion criteria were those who had mental disorders. Data were collected using a questionnaire developed by Nanyangwe Siuluta, consisting of 31 items on knowledge and 5 items on preventive practices of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus. The multivariate  Logistic regression was performed to analyze the data. Results: The findings showed that 51.8% of pregnant women had good knowledge, and 54.2% had poor preventive behaviors. There is a significant relationship between age (p = 0.019), family history of diabetes (p = 0.021), knowledge (p < 0.001), and preventive practices of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus. Multivariate analysis showed that knowledge (p < 0.001) is a significant factor related to preventive practice after controlling for age (p = 0.169) and family history of diabetes (p = 0.428). Conclusion: These findings highlight the importance of educational interventions to enhance the knowledge of pregnant women to promote good prevention behavior.

Abstract

Background: The Emergency Department (IGD) is a vital unit in a hospital that provides first aid to emergency patients. The application of the Early Warning System (EWS) in the emergency room triage process is very crucial as a parameter for monitoring and early detection of critical conditions. Objective: This study aims to analyze the relationship between emergency room triage using EWS score and nurse response time in handling emergency patients at Abdhi Famili Banyuwangi Hospital. Methods: This research employed a correlational analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. The population and sample consisted of all nurses working in the Emergency Room of Abdhi Famili Banyuwangi Hospital, totaling 30 participants, selected through total sampling. Data were collected using observational instruments. Results: The results showed that of the 18 respondents with low EWS scores, the majority (13 people or 72.2%) had a fast response time. The analysis using the Spearman Rank test yielded a value of p = 0.047 (< α = 0.05) and a correlation coefficient of 0.365. A p-value of less than 0.05 showed a significant relationship between emergency room triage using EWS scores and nurses' response time in handling emergency patients. However, a correlation coefficient value of 0.365 indicates that the relationship falls into the low category. Conclusion: There was a significant relationship, although in the low category, between emergency room triage using EWS scores and nurses' response time in handling emergency patients at Abdhi Famili Banyuwangi Hospital.
