Abstract

Background: Diabetes Mellitus (DM) often involves stress-induced hypertension and glucose instability. Mindfulness-Based Breathing Exercise (MBBE) is a non-pharmacological stress management intervention designed to reduce stress responses and help stabilize blood pressure and blood glucose levels. Objective: The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of Mindfulness Based on Breathing Exercise on reducing blood pressure and blood glucose levels in Diabetes Mellitus patients. Methods: A quasi-experimental study with a pretest-posttest control group design was conducted at Keputih Health Center, Surabaya. Thirty respondents with Type 2 DM (aged 40-65 years, diagnosed ≥1 year, with a history) were purposively sampled into intervention (n=15) and control (n=15) groups. The intervention group practiced Mindfulness-Based Breathing Exercise for 15 minutes daily for 14 days, while the control group received standard education. Blood pressure and random blood glucose were measured using digital devices and analyzed via paired and independent t-tests. Result: The paired t-test results in the intervention group showed a significant decrease in systolic blood pressure (p=0.001), diastolic blood pressure (p=0.002), and random blood glucose levels (p=0.000). There was no significant change in the control group (p>0.05). The independent t-test results showed a significant difference in the average decrease in blood pressure and blood glucose levels between the intervention and control groups (p≤0.05). Conclusion: Mindfulness-Based Breathing Exercise significantly reduced blood pressure and blood glucose levels in patients with diabetes mellitus. This therapy is recommended as a complementary nursing intervention in the management of diabetes mellitus.

Abstract

Background: Anemia in pregnancy remains a major public health concern, with prevalence exceeding 20% in Indonesia. This condition is commonly associated with hemodilution and inadequate iron intake. Objective: This study aims to analyze the effect of red guava–red spinach juice combined with iron (Fe) tablet fortification on the hemoglobin (Hb) levels of third‑trimester pregnant women. Methods: A quasi‑experimental pretest–posttest design with a control group was implemented involving 60 pregnant women. Participants were divided into control (Fe tablets only) and intervention groups (Fe tablets + 200 mL red guava–red spinach juice daily for 14 days). Hemoglobin was measured using a calibrated digital hemoglobinometer. Paired and independent t‑tests were used. Result: The control group showed an Hb increase from 9.21 ± 0.18 g/dL to 12.10 ± 0.27 g/dL (mean difference 2.89 g/dL, p < 0.001). The intervention group increased from 8.41 ± 1.12 g/dL to 13.00 ± 0.90 g/dL (mean difference 4.59 g/dL, p < 0.001). An independent t‑test revealed significant differences in post‑test Hb levels between groups (t = −20.4, p = 0.01). Effect size (Cohen’s d = 1.21) indicated strong clinical significance. Conclusion: Red guava–red spinach juice combined with Fe tablets is more effective in increasing Hb levels than Fe tablets alone. This intervention can be recommended as a complementary non‑pharmacological strategy for anemia prevention programs.

Abstract

Background: Diabetes mellitus is a chronic condition with rising global prevalence and is strongly influenced by lifestyle behaviors. Objective: This study examined the association between lifestyle factors and blood glucose levels among patients with diabetes mellitus at the Wonokromo Public Health Center. Methods: The study included 216 patients with diabetes mellitus, of whom 141 were selected using purposive sampling. A correlational analytic design with a cross-sectional approach was employed. Data were collected using a lifestyle questionnaire and the respondents’ most recent blood glucose measurements. Statistical analysis was conducted using the Spearman rank test. Results: Nearly half of the respondents reported a moderate lifestyle pattern, and most had blood glucose levels within the normal range. The analysis yielded a p-value < 0.001 with a correlation coefficient (r = 0.385), indicating a significant association between lifestyle and blood glucose levels. Conclusion: The findings demonstrate that lifestyle is significantly related to blood glucose control in patients with diabetes mellitus. These results highlight the importance of adopting healthy lifestyle practices, including balanced diet, regular physical activity, stress management, and avoidance of smoking, to help maintain optimal blood glucose levels.

Abstract

Background: Family resilience plays a crucial role in maintaining psychological well-being and adaptive coping among families caring for hemodialysis patients. Chronic illness and prolonged treatment often impose emotional and physical burdens that challenge the family’s ability to adapt, highlighting the need to identify determinants influencing resilience. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the relationships between demographic and clinical factors: age, gender, education level, duration of hemodialysis, and comorbidities, and family resilience among patients undergoing hemodialysis at Ahmad Yani Islamic Hospital, Surabaya, Indonesia. Methods: This study used a correlational analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. The population included 110 hemodialysis patients, and 86 respondents were selected using simple random sampling. Independent variables included age, gender, education level, duration of hemodialysis, and comorbidities, while the dependent variable was resilience. The Connor–Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC) was used to measure resilience. Data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test with a significance level of α = 0.05. Result: Most respondents (88.4%) demonstrated a very high level of resilience. Significant relationships were found between resilience and gender (p = 0.002), education level (p < 0.001), duration of hemodialysis (p < 0.001), and comorbidities (p < 0.001), while age showed no significant association (p = 0.019). Conclusion: Family resilience among hemodialysis patients was classified as very high. Socio-demographic factors, health conditions, and treatment duration influenced resilience levels. These findings highlight the need for nursing interventions focusing on psychosocial support, patient education, and family empowerment to enhance adaptive coping in long-term hemodialysis care.

Abstract

Background: Clinical supervision is widely implemented to support learning, professional development, and performance evaluation among nurses. Although evidence suggests that clinical supervision improves nurses’ job satisfaction, the lack of standardized policies and guidelines limits its optimal implementation. Variations in supervision models, frequency, and duration highlight the need for a synthesized evidence base. Objective: This systematic review aimed to gather and examine studies investigating how supervision affects nurses' job satisfaction in clinical settings. Design: This is a systematic review. Data Sources: Electronic searches were conducted across four databases: Scopus, EBSCO, CINAHL, and PubMed. The search covered articles published between 2019 and 2024. Review Methods: The review followed PRISMA guidelines. A total of 380 articles were identified; duplicates were removed, and titles and abstracts were screened according to predefined criteria. Study quality was assessed using the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) critical appraisal tool, resulting in 15 eligible studies. Results: The findings indicate that clinical supervision significantly improves nurses’ job satisfaction, particularly when conducted regularly and in a structured manner. Scheduled supervision supports knowledge development, reduces work-related stress, and enhances skill acquisition, with positive effects lasting up to 3–6 months. Supervision provided by experienced peers was generally more effective than supervision by direct supervisors. However, substantial variation was observed in supervision models, frequency, and duration. Supervisor competence, organizational support, and a supportive supervision environment promoting teamwork, communication, and psychological safety were key factors influencing effectiveness. Conclusion: Clinical supervision positively influences nurses’ job satisfaction and contributes to improved quality of care. Nonetheless, variability in supervision practices highlights the need for further research to develop evidence-based and standardized clinical supervision guidelines that consider organizational and workplace contexts.
